    • A snack might cause me to stay a little longer and order another drink!

    • I'd like a little nosh, but I wouldn't buy a drink just to get it.

On our recent Conquest trip, we spent a number of evenings in the lobby with a drink from the bar listening to music. I finally broke down and bought some WAY overpriced peanut mix from the gift shop because I needed just a little something while I had a beer (or two ;)).

I seemed to remember having something like that at some point and finally asked the bartender. He said they used to have it many years ago before they went through some cuts.

Is it just me, or would people be more inclined to buy another round or two if they had something like that? Not a community bowl that everyone digs in to, but something small that maybe they can provide on request if you order a drink. Not a buffet hot item, just some pretzels, or goldfish, or chex mix, or something! Maybe just the lobby bar and on the ships that have live music near the casino on the promenade from that bar. People are encouraged to hang out and drink and listen to music right?

I mean it would be nice, but on a ship that size with so many people there's no way I would put my hand in something that other people's hands have been in.

Now if they could do a single serving of bar snacks or something I would be all for it. But to just have a bowl of bar snacks that other people have picked through. OMG gross. Sorry but I just couldn't.

AGREED!!! No way would I want a community bowl of any sort. Individual wrapped packs might be a challenge with additional trash it creates and people leaving wrappers behind. Would a bucket o' pretzels with tongs for the bartender to put some in a bowl be too difficult to achieve? Shoot, I'd even tip an additional buck or two on top of what I tip for the Red Frog draft!

Agreed. There's an idea! Something! But I think the real reason they got rid of bar snacks was for the hygiene reason. I mean I think people are quick to blame the budget cuts, but I think this one was for the better. It doesn't take much for Noro to spread on a ship and it could spread oh so quickly with just one person not washing their hands and putting their hands into the pretzels and someone else eating them.

So many make excuses why not to have them, but we survived out of the caves; we'll survive with community snack troughs, as some make them out.

They'll certainly make people buy more drinks.

Don't want to share in the snack cesspool? Keep your hand out of them. I like my snacks.

I really liked those plantain chips in the Red Frog Pub. But yes, it would be nice to have something at the Atrium bar (my favorite drinking spot). I remember the little dish they used to give you some years ago, and it does not have to to be a big communal dish, just a small serving would do, but I can live without it. Not sure if the snack would keep me there any longer than one drink though, but that is just me.

They used to put tiny bowls of goldfish out for those who drank at the bars. Only the people I was with would eat from it. But, this was a cut. I usually bring my own in board now, because I need a salty snack once in a while.

Me too, Cruzlover! I always bring salty snacks with me for the cabin. I miss the days when Carnival had salty snacks out on the casino bar in the evenings.

On the Sunshine in November at the Alchemy Bar, we were served a small rectangular dish with three separate sections - one of mixed nuts, one of olives and one of cheese to share between the two of us - not 'communal.'

One night we ran low and another one was brought to us. :D

We (DH, DS, DD and I ) are usually in a balcony so late afternoon we have snacks and our beverage of choice on the balcony. Then we take turns getting ready for dinner. I either go up to the lido and assemble something or order from room service. Otherwise, with SO MUCH food, I rarely find myself hungry other than meal times.

Cruising back in the 90s They had it all the time . no one died or got sick .Now we have germaphobic . People need to build up there immune system to what is out there not to hide from . To many people are taking to much of antibiotic. They are the ones going to make bad for us

I actually don't take too much antibiotics and I am not a germaphobic, but I do work at a hospital and I am very aware of what kind of germs I can pick up and where. I do my best to keep myself healthy. That is part of my job.

I could go either way with bar snacks, as I don't really care for them incredibly much. I do think Red Frog offers wasabi peas and something else though.

What I do want is the Red Frog pub to offer the pub food on the Freedom, hehe. I am OK with paying a few extra bucks for it...especially if they would have fried pickles with buttermilk Ranch...mmm. That might be all I'd eat for the entire cruise, I'm addicted.

Let me see. I am on a cruise and I go to a bar and order a drink and there are no salty snack or snacks of any kind offered to me and I get annoyed. There really has got to be a joke in there somewhere. Could the joke possibly be the person who had the misguided insight to think this was an important issue to discuss. That's it. Yah, that's the ticket. Getting annoyed by the lack of snacks is the joke. Now I get it! Very funny! Maybe the person that gets annoyed will get it too.

Nah... The joke is that I posted a general conversation item for people to discuss but really just wanted to see how long it would take you to get your panties in a twist and comment on it...

Having little individual salty snacks while having drinks at a bar is a nice touch. :)

LuLu

Yep.

How about a bag of beer nuts (Bloomington's finest) for $2.

A bag of chips or mix for $2 or $3.

Some real sports (not sucker) on TV.

It's also likely they'd have a few less dinners to dish out in the MDR.

The lack of above make for a small S&S bill for me at the end of the cruise. Well, excluding my wife's pictures :rolleyes:

Uh oh, on my way now to the pantry to grab some Wing flavored Pretzels and a refill of Sangria :)
