Maybe, maybe not.

With hindsight it would have been no issue for us. But others can't handle that long after numerous cruises.

I don't think it's a question of age as much as it is the fact that it's your first cruise. What if cruising turns out not to be your thing, what if the cruiseline isn't a good fit for you, etc.? If it were me, I'd start with a shorter cruise to make sure I like cruising before investing time or money in 18 nights that I may or may not enjoy.

18 days wouldn't bother us. Our first cruise was 14 days.

The majority of our cruises are 21 days or longer.

Rather difficult to say without knowing more about you other than your age, which quite honestly IMO not the most important information in of itself. What cruise line / ship / itinerary? (There are differences in each line's "style" and target demographics). What do you enjoy doing? What do you not enjoy? What led you to this particular cruise v any others in your consideration? What kind of traveling have you done previously for comparison?

In general, as a first cruise with no prior experience, 18 days could be very long for some if once on board you find you don't care for being at sea or for the on board atmosphere. I think most people start with shorter cruises, such as 7 nights, to get the feel of the experience. That may not be a concern for you and this could be the experience of a lifetime. But that is very hard for us to know without you telling us more.

The other suggestion would be - if you have not done so already - to consult a cruise specialist travel agent with your preferences and expectations. They can help steer you in the right direction with your decision.

As ExpatBride suggested...what if you find after 6 or 7 days that this has been your worst idea ever, what are you prepared to do?

Think about it a bit. I am sure you will figure out what is best for yourself. It is your decision, after all. :)

Our first cruise was 14 nights, and we loved every minute - but we made full use of what was on offer, and took many more excursions than we do now, so we were constantly busy.

You didn't mean a cruise just for the over 50s, on Saga lines, did you?

Our first cruise was 15 nights. And we're still going strong. Prefer cruises of 10 nights and longer, but can tolerate 7 night ones.

And, yes, we've done shorter, but only if we coupled it with another cruise, or a quickie weekend getaway.

I would have to go along with those suggesting a shorter cruise if this is indeed your first cruise. There are some who really do not enjoy cruising and the 18 days would be dreadful if you happened to discover you are one of those.

Probably a 7 days cruise might be better and if you enjoy it, as you probably will, then book a 10-12 day cruise and on up.

As for me, I'd love to be on an 18 day cruise as long as there were many ports of call in interesting places interspersed with some sea days. On the other hand there are those who would probably prefer more sea days than I would.

Regardless, hope you really enjoy your first cruise and can enjoy many more.
