Clothing in main dining room

We will be on the Pacific Princess in Tahiti soon, and wanted to know if it is acceptable for men to wear nice dress shorts and nice shirts in the main dining room for dinner?? Or, does it have to be long pants??

As a general rule shorts or jeans on men aren't allowed in the MDR . This is a especially true on formal nights. Some times the Maitre'D will make exception on some cruises.

According to the Princess website, jeans are allowed unless they have fraying or holes. Obvioulsy not on formal nights though.

Shorts are not allowed in the MDR on Princess cruises for dinner. They are acceptable for breakfast and lunch

No shorts. Jeans are OK (as long as they aren't ripped).

Our last Hawaii cruise jeans on men where not allowed in the MDR.

Even nice shorts are still shorts. And the rules are pretty clear that no shorts are permitted in the dining room for dinner. They are OK for breakfast and lunch.

It was the title to this thread that caught my attention: "Clothing in main dining room" --- I suppose I thought there might be some interesting back and forth, but no -- everyone seems agreed that clothing is "suggested", and the only conversation was about jeans and shorts -- same old same old.

I always advise checking out the "Cruise Answer Book" on the Princess website, as well as the specific info about your ship. I did this before every cruise even when repeating the same ship (which was the case for our last cruise). Lots of good info.

It's fine to wear decent shorts in the MDR for breakfast & lunch ... but not for dinner.
