  1. There was only the option to make specialty dinner reservations on the "first" April 20. It is a limitation of the computer system. When we boarded, we were able to make a reservation for the "2nd" April 20 (which was wide open) It is now snowing!
  2. Expect it 3 days prior, give or take
  3. if you are just going to MIA airport, a taxi is the same price and easier (it can be a challenge to find your ride-share, or there can be a LONG wait for one.) Taxis are readily available and the line (if any) moves quickly
  4. i mean this will all due respect- if you are that thin-skinned, perhaps cruising (and travel) is not for you.
  5. Lots of variables, but in general you should have plenty of time. figure off the ship by 8 5-10 minutes to go thru Canada immigration (most times they waive you thru) 5-10 minutes to get bags 5-10 minutes to get a taxi 30 minutes to drive to airport 30 minutes to check in 20 minutes for US immigration and customs (bring your global entry card if you have it) 10 minutes to walk to gate so 90-120 minutes from ship to gate (I have done it in less than 90 but that is conservative on the low side)
  6. There is a “review” section or you can just post it in the specific cruise line section
  7. my parents are currently onboard (go home tomorrow) and have had a fabulous cruise. I only wish we had been able to join them
  8. another alternative is to overnight in Vancouver prior to flying home. A beautiful city with great restaurants and lots to see. Then catch an early flight the next morning.
  9. I would recommend doing the trip in reverse order (Anchorage to Vancouver - so a different week) Fly up to Anchorage a day or 2 early. Take the scenic train from Anchorage to Seward the morning of the cruise - then get right on the ship. End the cruise in Vancouver, quick taxi to airport, and much shorter travel day getting home. Ideally, I would do Vancouver Round trip (back to back) if your time and budget permits.
  10. I have been to Tristan (Seabourn world cruise pre-covid) and there is a small harbor where the tenders port (if you are lucky). I would estimate that it is 50/50 if you can get in (too windy/wave height) When I visited, there were no organized tours, we just walked around the Island for a couple hours, which was beautiful and interesting. Later in the afternoon, some residents came onboard and sold crafts, and the Police Chief (who wrote a book) gave a lecture about life on the island. Good luck and hope you make it in. I will try and post some photos tomorrow.
  11. the best itinerary is the one with the fewest (out of control) kids lol
  12. I would never cruise on a ship named the "Slendor"
  13. Take a taxi. Easier than Uber and same price (or less)
  14. I would recommend a wheelchair over a cart. The cart cannot meet you at the aircraft (a wheelchair can). Some of the jetways are long. Keep it simple
  15. The denied boarding was on Royal Caribbean, not Regent.
  16. booked it thru the railroad, Gold Star, military discount
  17. yes you can go to the main dining room or the buffet as well
  18. My wife says she would like to go if things don't work out with your significant other. BTW it might be awkward if your lady reads this thread, and ends up going on the cruise with you. Especially since you can't edit posts after a few minutes....
  19. was on it in January and agree with above. Is it "new" like the Grandeur etc? No. Is it in decent shape with excellent food and service? Yes, IMHO. More importantly, I would sail her again - and I am booked on her again in the fall. Navigator, on the other hand - I would not sail her again.
  20. Frankly, Anchorage has few choices when it comes to (quality) Hotels. The Captain Cook is the only large hotel in Anchorage that I would consider "Regent" level, but barely. The Hilton and Marriott are both dated and have service issues. They have both been remodeled, but frankly it was "lipstick on a pig" When there are so few options (like Anchorage and Iceland), there is not much Regent can do. That said, they should have given a much bigger refund/service gesture in the Iceland situation.
  21. you get what you pay for. I have done both and the train is a MUCH better experience
  22. The pull out sofa beds are not very comfortable but they can bring by you a mattress pad which helps. Not much privacy for 3 in a room but I’ve done it and it’s survivable.
  23. while I respect the desires of the OP, you are really limiting your options (and hence your enjoyment) if you won't do the buffet or specialty. I get the whole "don't want to pay more" thing, but frankly it's really just not a great strategy on a main-stream cruise. You pay thousands, but won't pay $100 or so for a really memorable meal? by all means, you do you, but personally I would make an exception to your "policy" and enjoy life. Same goes for the buffet, which costs nothing. You might be surprised and enjoy it. I have cruised on Regent, where pretty much everything is included, but I am still willing to spend extra (on a special excursion, for example) if that's what the wife and I want to do. Why limit yourself? Life is too short.
  24. In the US, building codes require a GFCI in the bathrooms, which is an outlet that is safe to use around water. Automatically shuts the power off if there is a short (i.e. risk of electrocution)
