It always sold out quickly, so they could probably charge more if they wanted. Based on the amount covered on the tour and compared to the price of some of Cunard’s excursions, I always thought it was a good deal. Also if they offered it for free, the people on the tour aren’t necessarily going to be people genuinely interested in learning about the ship - you’re also going to get people who will have just booked it because it was free.

Embarkation day is a good day to try the Golden Lion. Britannia restaurant isn’t open, and a lot of people don’t realise that the pub is open so it’s one of the quieter days to get lunch there.

Did you recently complete the online checkin with Cunard and add/confirm which credit or debit card you wanted to use for your onboard account? If so this is a small pre-authorisation to confirm you have provided the correct details. I had the same on my card just before my cruise earlier this year.

The Peking duck makes a good main course for 2 - or maybe I am just greedy! You just have to remember to order it 2-3 days ahead so they have time to prepare it.

I think it’s ok to talk about a bargain if it’s something that the other person can benefit from too in the future, especially if they initiate the conversation. though bragging about it is not on!

I booked a Q6 guarantee for a 2019 TA on QM2 - we ended up in a Q5- thankfully not one of the Q5s with a lifeboat directly below!

Huge fare difference: BTB vs two separate bookings

If a recall correctly, in May I received a bottle of Laurent Perrier Brut NV. Half way through the crossing a bottle of Pol Acker appeared too! -

I’ve spoken to a few people who have done back to backs and have been advised you may need to give your butler or steward a nudge to receive the additional bottle. -

Fortunately in QG we will also receive two bottles of Laurent Perrier! 🙂 -

I saved £50 per person booking a 4 night Southampton - Hamburg - Southampton QG cabin as 2 separate trips. I was able to book the same stateroom both ways so no need to move. Also means I will get the $50 shareholder credit twice, this will count as 2 trips for world club status, and a second bottle of ‘welcome on board’ champagne! Hopefully I’ll be able to pick another 2 bottles of spirits too… 🙂 -
Cruise ship internet - maybe not Cunard's fault
Se1lad replied to ballroom-cruisers's topic in Cunard Line
My experience at the start of May was that whilst the system automatically logged me off, I still had an active wireless connection to the Cunard wifi - I may be wrong but I strongly suspect that they have not upgraded all the routers on stateroom decks and these cannot cope with the multiple connections. -
Cruise ship internet - maybe not Cunard's fault

I think one of the problems is that now internet is per the day rather than per the second, people leave their devices connected all the time, and ship’s infrastructure is not able to cope with so many connections. -
Agreed - as long as the required dress code is adhered to at the appropriate time then I don’t see an issue. Let’s not forget people are on holiday and if they choose to wear trainers or dress casually during boarding/in the daytime then that’s perfectly fine. The ship is a shared space and there is room for everyone, regardless of their sartorial tastes. Though back to the OP - taking a jacket or a blazer is a sensible idea as it can get quite chilly in the MDR at times!

Though if they had decided to wear trainers you would never know as the photo ends near their knees! 🙂

The latest QM2 wine list has been published here: Wines by the glass are at the end of the list - I imagine the choice will be similar on all three queens. if you decide to pay as you go instead, don’t forget that you can order a bottle at lunch, only drink a glass or two, and ask for the remainder to be served with dinner.

You only get clotted cream with the Grills afternoon tea

I need the bar soap for shaving!

There are normally a fair few members of the LBGTQ+ community on board, and there is a meet up organised every evening in the Commodore Club, usually at 5pm. Normally attended by a wide age range, from people in their 20s upwards.

Take a look at how I did my test from a hotel after arriving in America - this is permitted within the Cunard rules: My experience from the recent 1st May eastbound TA may help you. Obviously requirements for Cunard are subject to change at short notice. I booked a Fit To Fly Antigen Test With Observation from Medicspot for £19.99. With a coupon code I found by searching the internet this came down to £16.50. Cunard were happy with the test being performed any time in the previous 2 days, so for a Sunday departure I was ok to do it anytime on Friday. If I recall, test appointments were available any time between 9am and 6pm UK time. Test was done over zoom, both myself and my travelling companion were able to do the test on the same zoom session - I did this on my iPad with no problem. They told me the certificate could take up to 2 hours, but it arrived within 5 minutes.

If you start to travel frequently on Cunard the link below shows you the benefits you will get: https://www.cunard.com/en-gb/cunard-world-club They are not as generous as other lines, and currently the cocktail parties are not taking place.

JUST OFF THE QM2 - What’s Changed, What Hasn’t
Se1lad replied to Jack E Dawson's topic in Cunard Line
Great review. Just so you are aware, whilst conditioner and bars of soap are not provided by default, you can request them from your Steward. -
I was deck 10 near stairway C, so not really close to any public rooms.

Thanks - that’s really helpful!
