  1. Can you find others to share the tour on your Rollcall?
  2. That’s the difference between a country with a gun culture and one without a gun culture, We can only dream of something like that here
  3. Why would there be armed guards there? Iceland is one of the safest places in the world.
  4. You can post the name here. We are allowed to ask questions about providers, otherwise what is the use of the forum?
  5. I agree with Princeton. If you are sailing from Manhattan and can STAY and SEE Manhattan for a few extra dollars or points, you definitely should do that, instead of being stuck in a bleak area near an airport
  6. Maybe the BL bus picks up at the pier? I haven't looked at their options in a few years.
  7. It's a cute little town, but the "selling" point of that region is Cape Breton in general. Spectacular scenery
  8. Your cruiseline may offer a shuttle bus, but there isn't a public option like that. It's a great walk on a nice day, or transit shouldn't take much more than 20 minutes. Taxi/uber could be 10 minutes or could be an Hour and Ten minutes, depending on traffic
  9. Taxi from KEF to the BL runs around $50 each way. BL also has bus service from the city and/or airport to their location that you can book on their site.
  10. easy enough to look up average temperatures and precipitation for your ports. Do be prepared for wind and expect rain every day in Iceland. It won't rain constantly but often enough you'll want to be ready for it
  11. People who live there call it FIDI. And yes, the area you suggested is useful for visiting 30 Rock or Broadway (although I'd suggest near 7th and 8th for that), but would be a distance for the Statue of LIberty or walking the Brooklyn Bridge. Staying in TriBeCa or the Financial District would be good for those activities
  12. You could look stuff up. FIDI is Financial District, and lots of folks stay there. LIC is cheaper and closer (and quicker). You still have to get to the subway station (plenty of close hotels to subways in LIC) in FIDI (or UWS or UES, etc) and ride to your destination just like in LIC. And the money savings can be substantial. I'm curious as to where your Centrally Located lodging is that doesn't require getting to and from and riding the subway? Say, for someone going to a Broadway show, to the Natural History Museum, to see the Statue of Liberty, and going to a Yankee Game?
  13. LIC is closer to midtown than the FIDI is. It certainly isn't a couple hours or a costly car service to get there!
  14. does the Anne Green Gables Museum in PEI interest you? Or are you just mentioning it because Everybody Else Does? When we did a NE/Canada cruise we were all about landscapes and nature. We rented cars and did boat cruises to see the land. Sydney and that part of NS (Cape Breton) is just incredibly beautiful -- we drove it in a, well, driving rainstorm, and we still loved it.
  15. Didn't we already have a thread about this? If the lockers there are full, you can see if a hotel will hold them for a fee. Or you can rent a car and keep them with you. You could also book a tour with a local company that can also take your luggage or ask a local tour company if they have luggage storage options for a fee
  16. We ended up walking when we saw the fare and realized our destination was about 45 minutes away by foot and we wanted to see the city, so we didn't try to get a ride
  17. I've parked in NYC garages at least 100 times (5+ trips/year from Boston for over 20 years) and never had a scratch, a dent, or any other experience worse than once or twice having to wait 15+ minutes for my car to be delivered. Always a valet garage, probably used about 20 or 25 different ones. They are professionals and they are responsible for dents and scratches and you don't keep your job long if you are costing them money
  18. Definitely too early to see rates! At best you will see Rack Rates a year out. Wait until June 1st to expect to see anything realistic
  19. Porter Air flights from Billy Bishop to EWR are very convenient and easy to get to and from the airports to your destinations.
  20. Taxis in Iceland are expensive to start, so even short rides aren't cheap. I don't know current fares but the Taxi Fare Finder site worked well for us when we last used it for Reykjavik a few years ago.
  21. When I go to google maps and put in Reykjavik Skarfabakki Harbour and click the Nearby Button and enter "Car rentals" I get quite a few options within a mile or two. Be very careful renting cars in Iceland as there are some very bad providers and even with a good company you will need to thoroughly document the condition of the car when you pick it up to avoid any surprise damage charges. Tons of info about car rentals on the Iceland forums at TripAdvisor
  22. Most do not. We've had everything from "if you enjoyed your tour there is a bucket by the exit you can leave a little something for your guide in" to "there is no need for that". There are Free tours that are tip supported (mostly walking tours in the city) and we generally still tipped guides, but maybe half as much as in the states, and tips were very gratefully received.
  23. If the Sox are doing well a Saturday game in August could get sold out. I'd keep an eye on the standings and if the Red Sox are a few games over .500 or better, I'd buy in advance.
