  1. You will find both US style 110v and European style 240v outlets aplenty in your cabin. And just FYI, there is nightlight style lighting in the bathroom at night when the regular light is off.
  2. You could try: fortstcatherine@gmail.com or call: 1(441) 297-1920, see if anyone answers!
  3. As far as I understand it, when you find a cruise you want to book, SS pro rate the cost of 7 nights in a verandah cabin and take that off the price. You can book any cabin for any length cruise you want, you just pay the difference. (May not apply to WC? Dunno) That's certainly how I did it for my free 7 night cruise that I used this summer for a 21 night cruise. And that was the second time I applied that certificate to a cruise, the first time was when it was applied to a cruise that SS cancelled during Covid so I guess it had to remain valid since the cancellation was nobody's fault.
  4. When I'm staying somewhere where the washing machine is not easy to understand (eg on a ship or in a rented apartment) - and it's particularly true of European machines - I google the make and model number which is usually visible somewhere on the machine and read an instruction manual. Perfectly easy, makes using the machine a breeze instead of trial and annoying error. I'm a scientist, I like to have answers!
  5. Each to their own. I quite like the veggie burger. Can't speak about the beef, I'm not vegetarian but I don't eat beef.
  6. Colin and Alan came to a well earned retirement after a long and successful career. Jimmy moved up to Hotel Director, a move he really wanted. People move up, move along, retire. I’m happy to move along with the times and cruise with new faces, and enjoy their new energy and talents.
  7. Harsh to give no credit to some of the new faces coming along.
  8. Proximity to land does not particularly influence wifi availability on the ship since it is satellite based.
  9. When I was on board in July/August it was Flavio Gioia, but I can't remember if he said he would still be on board when I rejoin the ship Nov 9th, or if his contract will be done by then. I think I recall that Vicki as CD will be on the last few weeks of her current contract then. I never really care, I'm always happy just to be onboard! There's so many great officers and crew I'm sure I'll be well cruised.
  10. I think it’s the butler’s pantry and maybe service stairs. Certainly that’s usually where I bumped into my butler when looking for her for my daily temp check back in July.
  11. No, the hotel at the airport is not a Hilton but it is actually inside the airport. The Hilton at Blue Lagoon, nearby, does do day rooms and does, at least every time I've stayed there, have a reliable airport shuttle.
  12. That's the comment that was the problem. That's your opinion and there's no reason why you shouldn't hold it. You may well be very qualified to form your own opinion. But to state it baldly as a given that should apply to us all, when it is just your opinion, is annoying.
  13. If you have a normal US style plug 110 volt iron, you just plug it into the US style 110 volt outlet at the desk. All the US style outlets in the cabin are 110 volt. SS isn’t stupid enough to offer an outlet where pax can just plug straight in a US style 110 volt appliance and then supply it with 240 volts. Of course, appliances can be plugged into the European style 240 volt outlets but you would need a plug adapter for that. And a dual voltage appliance. But that’s not what you’re talking about.
  14. None. There are US type 110v outlets in the cabin, as well as European type 240v outlets. You can plug the provided hairdryer in so I am presuming the outlets/circuits will take the current draw of a curling iron. (Don't quote me on that tho!)
  15. Thanks for the thought Stumbles! Altho’ I’m actually sitting in Honolulu airport just starting my trip home, I was due to fly into Bermuda on Friday but have changed my flight from Charlotte to Saturday so I’ll be sitting in an airport hotel at CLT while it all happens. Hope my car and house are okay, and the power’s not off for too many days. Also sending good wishes to all on the Whisper, the waters of the north west Atlantic are going to be very lumpy for a while. Could threaten the stability of the champagne glasses.
  16. Absolutely, and I am definitely talking solely about myself here. I know baths are important to many. Just my personal line in the sand, but one to watch out for on SS. On the Dawn recently my butler suggested she might run me a bath (in frustration probably because I hardly use the butler's services at all) - fortunately she asked first so I was able to explain my preferences.
  17. Anything good happening on your cruise? Love to hear about it. Spirit was always my favourite, till I cruised the Dawn, but she still has a soft spot in my heart.
  18. I live in a country where water is a precious resource and baths are considered an expensive waste. Even a long shower is considered profligate. On one SS cruise some years ago, I came back from an excursion to find that my butler had run a bath for me, had even sprinkled some sort of petals on the water. I was utterly appalled at the waste and hated just pulling the plug but I shower, not bathe. Then I had a rather awkward moment setting the butler straight without hurting his feelings. PS Those of you who know me are probably falling off their chairs laughing thinking of me and petals in the same sentence.
  19. When I was on the Dawn recently, I thought the drinks in the Salt Bar were great but I couldn’t go there more than once, it was too small and dark and without windows, it brought on claustrophobia. Shame. Panorama or the Observation lounge were my places - wide open views of the sea.
  20. To add to Globaliser, don't bother leaving the airport, you're better off there for dining than anywhere in the even vague vicinity.. Stay airside, the less you tangle with LHR security the better, it's brutal. You will have to do a security check even staying airside between T3 and T5, but in the past (not sure about right now) it used to be less stringent than a full check when going from landslide to airside. Also, double check the terminal for your BA flight, they used to use T3 as well as T5, again, not sure about now.
  21. JYDCruise, Don't pay too much attention to what you're highlighting. That's not how it really is.
  22. Reading the above report, and having myself recently embarked on the Dawn at Fusina, I have decided that I will not cruise into or out of Venice again, I will use more convenient ports in future. Glad I’ve spent plenty of time in Venice in the past.
  23. Silver Princess is Stumbles daughter. He was having a joke on himself, perhaps not so comprehensible to those who don’t know him. The clue is in my previous post #14
  24. SS doesn't do solo trivia items, it just does trivia teams. No problem. Easy to join a team. It's much more important than solo, couples or groups to have a team of mixed nationalities, ages, and interests to cover as wide a field as possible. Six or eight to a team. Be warned, trivia is taken seriously (in a laughing way) on SS. Some of the most interesting fun on the whole cruise. Don't miss it! Don't worry about solos drinks hour - check it out at the beginning of the cruise and go back if it clicks, don't worry if it doesn't suit you, there's no pressure or hassle. It is however, the easiest way to get to dine with other solos. Or you can pass by, tell them you'd like to dine with them but are having a drink elsewhere first, and they'll let you know where and when they'll be dining. I usually eyeball the gathering from the other side of Dolce Vita (where it is generally held) and don't bother with it any more. I like dining on my own.
