  1. Ships time starts in the departure port. This time of year the Florida ports are on EDST. Most of the Caribbean islands are on Atlantic standard time, an hour ahead of the US east coast…except when we are on EDST when we are the same. The islands do not observe daylight savings time. In the season when we are on standard time, the islands will be an hour ahead. Most lines will change their clocks to match the time zone, but Carnival is one exception. There may be others. Going the other way, Mexico will be on central time. EM
  2. There was a building in 2010. I’ve never arrived by train, but lines were not a problem…. EM
  3. My goodness, do you mean I might have found a line that values solo cruisers? Instead of feeling invisible and unwanted? EM
  4. A helpful site for researching itineraries is cruisetimetables.com. In their menu bar you can click on ‘Cruises to…’ and select a place you would like to visit on your cruise. It will tell you who goes there, and their itineraries. Or, since you mentioned San Juan as departure port, you could go to ‘Cruises from’, choose San Juan, dates, and it will tell you who sails and itinerary. It might save you going to each cruise line website if you are looking for something in particular. EM
  5. I have never taken an excursion that involved a beach. If that is the only kind excursion offered, maybe you need to look at a different itinerary. EM
  6. I’ve carried a mini stapler in the past. Or if in a hotel, ask at the front desk for tape or stapler. It’s probably been ten years since I carried this stapler…EM
  7. No Mexican on Seaside. Only Ocean Cay seafood, Butchers Cut and the Asian Marketplace restaurant. Deck 16 mid, only accessed by forward elevators. EM
  8. They were sold to Lindblad. After refurb will still sail the Galápagos. EM
  9. Given the time of year, you might get more use with a sheltered balcony. EM
  10. A retired military ID is indefinite after you reach 65. Until then, it needs to be renewed when you reach 65. That’s when Medicare becomes primary over Tricare. Been there, done that. But I’ve never registered for the military discount. Who do I submit this to? EM
  11. There is a feature of CC that apparently many members have not discovered, although it has been here for years. At the top of the cruise line page is the option to ‘See posts about’ and then Select ship, which produces a dropdown menu. Select your ship and you will get a page of threads about that ship. (First picture) in fact, you do not even have to go into the cruise line forum to see this feature(second pic)
  12. Fees are not taxes. Can you deduct what you pay for parking? That’s a fee, too. Maybe if it’s a business expense, but I doubt port fees are. EM
  13. There is at least one with seafood, it isn’t free. EM
  14. It’s been nearly 10 months since I sailed Seaside, so dailies would be no help. The wonderful thing about her is she has two buffets. On deck 16 is a smaller buffet that is only open for breakfast and lunch. That means it’s less crowded…and when I was on they had wonderful sticky buns. On Seashore they were not nearly as good. Aurea dines in the Seashore restaurant on deck 5 aft. There is a separate smaller entrance to the left, those with fixed dining use the central main entrance. The deck 16 buffet also has late night snacks 10pm -1 am. my cruise was a 4+3 so not as many shows as on a 7 day. They may have the same ones I saw because it costs a whole lot to create and stage a new show. Anyway, first night was Peter Punk, a sort of takeoff on Peter Pan. I think the dinosaur stole the show. There was a comedian, and Moondance, a tribute to Michael Buble. And Starwalker, Michael Jackson tribute. We saw Starwalker in 2019. My favorite hangout was the Sports Bar. As of last August they hadn’t filled it up with slot machines. Anyway, that’s my report. I did a Live from which has probably sunk to about page 20. EM
  15. There are lots of suggestions on the Florida Departures board, under North American Homeports. EM
  16. A whole lot of longtime members have never noticed it. One problem here is Seascape and Virtuosa are missing…and long departed Melody remains. EM
  17. There is a thread about halfway down the second page asking the same question. It was started in 2020 but there are very recent replies. EM
  18. There is a thread on the top of page 3: Covid refund check from 2021. EM
  19. Ay e too elementary, but if you are having trouble figuring out how to logout, click on profile at bottom right. Then at the top right, click on the tool wheel and you will get the option to logout. EM
  20. I have two cruises booked. When I sign in, I enter my booking number and can access my reservation. In order to access the second cruise, I must logout from the app, then go back in with second booking number. EM
  21. You will sleep onboard, and be out of your cabin the same time as in any other debarkation port. You can take a Princess transfer with excursion to Anchorage which will drop you at the airport, or perhaps in town to do more sightseeing. Whittier is very small and transfer opportunities very limited. And there is the tunnel, one way each half hour. You can get more info on the Alaska board here, under Ports of Call. Welcome to Cruise Critic. EM
  22. Sounds like a cut and paste from a partial transit excursion list. Chances are they will bus you to Gamboa where you get the ferry, and then bus back from Miraflores locks to Colon. EM
  23. I e never had a package. I usually buy the boarding photo and any others that are flattering, which gets less and less as I age. Last year on either Seaside or Seashore I had some taken, and I could never find them. To locate pics you had to dig through boxes and boxes of everyone’s pics. I gave up. EM
