  1. Good Saturday Morning Dailyites! Computer says it 53 and sunny. DH had to run to the bank this morning, and he said, whatever, it's cold out!  Our windy days just don't stop.

The guy is supposed to come today to fix the hole in the driveway.  I hope he fixes the whole hole, which is now a foot deep.  The plan is to dig up the driveway up to where the initial crack is, and then to where below the hole is, and fill in with sand, gravel and then pour concrete on top.

I'm pretty sure that our neighbor who shares a side by side driveway will be happy for us not to use his anymore, and I just hope it lasts long enough until our final move.  BUT he was supposed to be here an hour ago.

So far all I can say about the very pregnant tiny cat on the porch is, that she is lonely for all the male companionship she has had for months, and that no vet is available to perform a kitten abortion at this time, that she does use her litter box, she eats, and she is very nervous.  She hisses through the glass at the orange boys, and remembers Tigger from her time on the streets.

Looks like kittens are in my future.

Tigger is like having a moving dishwasher, if you put a plate down and turn your back, well,  the meal is gone.  He doesn't care what it is.  Today he had peanut butter, and butter with crumbs from a whole wheat english muffin.

I read the end of yesterdays Daily, @RMLincoln what a long hard day you had yesterday, but being with family is so important, and stepping in to help with calls, and texts and hugs was so important.  Bless you.  And how wonderful that your DH's vision is now good enough that he can drive!

Plans for today?  Putz around the house, do laundry, clean up piles of paper, pay bills, go to the post office, (well I may put that off until Monday, so that I actually have something planned for the afternoon.) DH has a PET scan on Monday Morning.

  2. About my previous post, it did start out with Good Friday Afternoon Dailyites, got the info on how many times I had been there, what we did, and I started posting picture from the museum (these showed up last) and then the miniatures of Mayan ruins, they showed up at the end, with no explanation, and  the guy climbing the pole, and the men walking around the pole.  I have no idea what happened to my written part of my post.

Anyway, if you are looking for something fun to do,  and walking is a problem for you,  the museum, miniatures and Papantla flyers are a great way to spend a few hours.

  3. I have been to Cozumel at least 8 times-

3 times with a day pass to a hotel ( El Cid) snorkeling and lunch

once a tour of the island

once to Isla Passione (great trip)

once to do a Salsa and Salsa (I dont dance)

Once DH and I just wandered the shops, and had a great lunch

But the most memorable was when DH and I saw the Papantla flyers- In order to be one, your father must be one, so when the Catholics tried to squash the gods out of the Mayans , they did this in secret in the forests-

when the head ribbons touch the ground, it's time to sit up and call it a job well done.  They take tips, but are not paid by the museum.

  4. @Cruising-along I'm thinking what can I do with all that wool.  Dye it, make a short wrap?  To keep warm?  Untie it, and make a large thick scarf?  What a great packing idea.

@Mr. Boston I suggest one of the best ways to see Maine if you love the sea, is to get out on the sea.  Check out Maine Windjammers and find a primitive cruise that goes to small towns.

If you love the hills, just move 10 miles inland. We love Rockland.

  5. @Hogladyrider I have no idea how old you are, but when I went there as a child, and worked in Harwich Port the summer of 74, there were no sharks.  And there were no sharks because there was no food source for them.  And then we decided that killing seals was not nice, and the seal population bloomed, and the sharks had a food source.  Now maybe we look like seals to the sharks, but we aren't seals.  I guess they just add ketchup.

And seals, really are not that precious.  They are breeding machines, that toss their babies aside after two weeks, and breed again.  I bought the best waterproof seal skin boots when I lived in Minnesota. I'm cold, I know, but humans are more precious than seals.

Shark attacks from the 80's to present day.

Years ago in the place where I took the picture of the swan, the area was known as Salt Kettle Pond  and my dad would take us out fishing for flounder.  Now it's part of the parks wildlife area, no fishing or boats.

A blustery day at one of the beaches north of Chatham- I cant believe we would get in the water here when we were little.

  7. @Hogladyrider I just found the article about the missing man in Cozumel.  His type of dementia would probably not make anyone think there was something wrong. I hope they find him, and I hope someone found him and is taking care of him.

@Cruzin TerriGlad to read the trip is still on, and that the medications are doing their thing.  And that you like the doc.

My friend Charles who's wife has dementia finally realized that she can not be left alone at all. She will try to cook, and either never turns on the stove, or turns it on and forgets about it.  He works from home 4 out of 5 days, but on the day he is gone, one of his step daughters has to come in and stay with Mom.  He told me last week that she is now not remembering to get to the bathroom when she has to go.  I asked him if he had spoken to the doc about this, and he said no, should I be worried?  I said yes. Sometimes being with someone all the time, you don't notice the major changes that they are going through. DH and I notice because we don't see them as often as we used to.  Her personality has changed from a gracious person to someone who has temper tantrums because a restaurant does not offer what she wants to eat.  And what she will eat is cheeseburgers or lobster.  When we last cruised with them last May, he told her he couldn't afford for her to order lobster every evening.  So she stopped eating.  DH and Charles went one night for sushi, and Dan and I picked her up for dinner, and she refused to order dinner.  I said, Ann, you like steak, why not order one, and I can tell your hubby you are doing fine, and she did and she ate it.

Charles very much wanted to go on the next cruise, but because of her behavior, he is not even sure that they will get to the Florida Rental  trip this October let alone doing any planning for next year.

And since I am the crazy cat lady-there is a very pregnant stray now living on the porch. I promised DH that when they are born, I will give them all away.  right.........

Very windy afternoon, but we did get the walk in the woods in, and we helped someone jump their battery, In that part of the park, there is no phone service, and you are basically screwed unless someone can help.  And while there were three cars parked there, as far as people?  just DH and I and the guy with the dead battery.  (In a mercedes no less)  him, not us.

  8. Good Thursday Morning Dailyites!  It's 66 and cloudy...with expected rain throughout the day..

The arm is very painful, which I guess was to be expected, but a stiff neck and a headache?  Argh.  I had DH call his doc that he was supposed to have a "talk" with about the hip situation.  He left two messages, but not his new phone number, and of course no one has called back. It was supposed to be yesterday, ( I thought it was today) so I am going to call the office with the home number.  The doctor told him to get out and walk and see if the pain became less-it is a circulation problem.  It seems to me that walking, if it helps, is less invasive than another surgery. But I have to keep reminding him.  So today he has a choice, either mall walk, or walk in the rain. We wont walk in the neighborhood, too many loose dogs, and way too hilly.

  9. On Sunday I went to pick up some meds at the pharmacy.
The pharmacist informed me It was time for my Covid shot, my RSV shot and my Shingles shot.  I said really?  How much, and it turned out to be 0.00.  Can you do all 3 at once? They said yes.  And I said no.  So I just got back from the pharmacy having shingles 1 shot, and the RSV shot, both in the same arm, and I am set to go for 14 days, then come back for the Covid, and then after 60 days come back for the 2nd shingles shot.  So far, I feel fine, my arm hurts, and I may put off the kitchen cabinet clean out.  Krogers was having a buy one get one on very chocolaty popsicles Magnum, and I figured I needed a treat.  So I indulged, got the chocolate with chocolate and the chocolate with raspberry.  That one has dark chocolate on the outside, a drippy gooey liquid raspberry dip, and that surrounds the raspberry ice cream.  It sounds almost healthy.  LOL.

Im loving the pictures of the family and siblings, and loving the pictures of Petra.  Thank you.

  10. Good Wednesday Morning Dailyites!  Computer says its 59 and mostly cloudy.  It's completely cloudy, but I guess they want me to guess where it isn't.

My brother lived in Jordan for several years, I have been fascinated by Petra for years.  But even though I have a brother, we were both adopted, and had different birth parents.  And we have never been close.  I dont think we have spoken more than once since 1998.  I wish that our adopted parents hadn't been so busy pointing out all our faults to each of us, but that's the way it was.  So instead of "you're the big brother, take care of your sister"  our family didn't work that way.

I prefer my family I created and found throughout my life.

I don't have to dog walk today as Donna called and said the dog was barfing, and she had to stay home. The dog was barfing yesterday, and I left her a note when I was done walking her, that I didn't think the dog felt well, but she went to play pool last night, and then rethought about going to work, so she is working from home today.

Except for the very top shelf of the bookcase in the den, I got the rest of it organized.  Antiques are on the top shelf.

Today will be cleaning out kitchen cabinets.

I made Queso Chicken last night, very tasty!

  11. My dad's favorite thing to eat when we lived in France was bouillabaisse.  We often went to Mont Saint Michel, and stayed at a small hotel near by, and he would order bouillabaisse.  And every time he did this, he would get very very ill.  So when we moved back to the states, he did an allergy test and found out, that he was allergic to seafood.  Which lasted until the last year of his life and he could eat shrimp again.

My parents gave me a choice of two camps when I finished 6th grade.  Sailing camp out on Cape Cod, or Riding camp in north Vermont.  They gave me the choice, but decided for me.  Figuring that my grandparents would at least come visit me since they lived in Woodstock VT.

There I was the granddaughter of a horse breeder, and I found out within day one, but lasted for 6 weeks, I was allergic to horses. When I got back from camp, I got tested.  It it has fur or hair, I'm allergic to it.  Even the cats!  I took years of shots, and had no problems with cats.  Until this past year.

@tupper10You had mentioned a few days ago the fact that I had cruised on Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.  I was 6 when we left the USA to live in France.  We took the Queen Mary out of New York.  We had to be dressed to the 9's every day, and pretend to be perfect children.  My brother went to swim in the pool (inside on the lower decks back then) and there was an octopus swimming in the pool.  He never went back to swim.  They had daily tea parties for the children, and showed movies in a small theatre.  We did have early dining (this is when the children were supposed to eat) but we dined as a family.  After dinner, I remember my mother dressed up  in the most beautiful gowns, and my parents would go out and dance the night away.  All the rest of her life, she never got so gussied up again.

When we left France, we stayed in Paris for a few days, and Dad took us to the movies, we saw The Longest Day.  When we got home the first movie I saw was West Side Story, and I thought, what a violent country we came back to.  I don't remember anything about the Queen Elizabeth except for coming back into the New York Harbor. In the fog, we ran into a small sailboat, and the sudden stop of motion made me terribly ill. I'm sure that they had the same fancy things  going on that we had on the Queen Mary, but by then I had become rather introverted and spent my time walking the ship, or had my head in a book.

  12. @rafinmdSounds like things are running smoothly, with them getting in touch with you, instead of you doing all the work trying to get in touch with them.  Good Doc!

Several years ago DH's oncologist wanted him to meet with a pain doctor.  I'm not sure she had ever worked with someone like DH, Post heart attack, clogged arteries, cancer, bad hip, mouth pain from radiation. She said she would get all of his dr's together and discuss the best way to handle all of DH's problems.   She never did.  Part of the problem is the heart doc is independent, the oncologist is part of Northside, the hip, ENT and radiation were Emory.  So all the pain meds are being subscribed by the oncologist and the ENT.  He's got pain meds from here to eternity, and the oncologist wants him back with a pain management person.  And today after 6 weeks of telling us that, they called and said they found a new doc, in the Emory offices, in midtown to help get him off all the meds.  I wonder if they can hypnotize him?

The vein and heart doc want him to walk, to get rid of the pain in his hip.  Which would work, if I could get him out walking.  He wont mall walk, he wants the woods.  I agree that soft earth is nicer than cold marble.  But he won't walk if it's raining. The biggest pain he has is from the radiation.  And unless they can stop the jaw bone from dissolving I can't see how they can relieve that pain. The thing is, he doesn't complain about it when we are cruising.  If we could only cruise every two weeks.  LOL.

I had a friend who got hypnotized to quit smoking.  They told him to think of what scared him.  Spiders.  The man hated spiders. So every time he went to light up he got this overwhelming fear that spiders were around him.  After two months I saw him smoking again.  What happened I asked.  He said he got over his fear of spiders.
