  1. She said as soon as the started moving it went away. It was funnel smog. Not sewage. As I said.
  2. It may be unknowable how many ordinary flu infections have been quashed because of all the masking, and hand-washing, and elbow bumping. But I bet it’s hella lot.
  3. Ah yes. U-S mail. Also, most people have disconnected their fax machines, thrown out their hard line telephones in the kitchen, and that little machine over your VCR with the tray that shoots out when you turn it on? That was what was known as a CD machine. Those are mostly unplugged these days, too.
  4. They don't pay port fees when they're anchored out in open water.
  5. Just FYI those flies lying motionless on their backs in the window tracks in January .... are the source of new flies in May. They're not dead. They're hibernating. Warm one up in your hands. You'll throw up in your mouth a little.
  6. Most people have seen onboard pricing to go to heck in a handbasket since mid summer. This is not all that shocking, unprecedented or even particularly out-of-the-blue. https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/28015-norwegian-cruise-line-raises-onboard-prices-and-posts-strong-onboard-revenue-numbers.html
  7. melt a bar of high cocoa content chocolate and BOOM.
  8. Well. That’s not very nice of them. 😒
  9. Fill out a “guest special needs” and the Access Desk will make sure you have what you need. https://ncl.secure.force.com/AccessDeskForm/
  10. No. You’re forgetting, I’m not the one having a hemorrhage because of ambient noise on a luxury cruise.
  11. Because the sound of a child expanding her artistic culture through practice, an essential element to success, is more of a threat to your peace and quiet than it is a witness to your success as a nurturing parent? Just spitballing here.
  12. The way it works is that if something is for sale, and you want it, and you have the money for it, you can buy it . You don’t need to concern yourself with how it’s putting other people, who are also wealthy enough to cruise, out. Put your energies behind fighting for people who are working two jobs and still can’t pay rent and buy healthcare. Not how bad it’s going to be for a well-to-do family who is going to have to walk an extra 40 feet to get to their second luxury cruise ship a accomodations. (God.)
  13. Someone noted that when they attempted to make a bid on an updgrade using the NCL App, the confirmation number field would only accept 6 digits. Apparently some of us have 8 digit cruise confirmation numbers, which would lead one to believe that the number of digits is one way NCL separates different classes of purchase for such things. Well this morning, I noticed that the app is once again accepting all 8 digits of my confirmation number (regular balcony, first time NCL customer). I wonder if this is a signal that upgrade bids will once again be offered to us lowly middle class passengers.
  14. Or, more succinctly, Europeans tend to "get dressed". Americans are happy to show up at work in dance leotards and flip flops.
  15. Let me restate, in case you missed it. We're already a minority as soon as we walk on to the ship. A minority of two. There could be a mob of passengers banging on my stateroom door demanding that I stop dressing better than them. I couldn't care less. It's none of my business what other people think of me. My job is to be well within my own space.
  16. So we're down to, "go ahead, order it and lets see what we can get away with" type of advice? lol I want to be a fly on the wall when all the people in this thread told someone to just order whatever they want as long as it's not an entree because you won't get charged ...... when they finally get the bill and got charged. That'll be a whole new thread when they get back.
  17. How about an old, rich couple two sheets to the wind and screaming at the top of their lungs out on the balcony in front of god and everybody? Are we going to huff and puff about every single possible anecdotal mathematical possibility about everything that could possibly annoy us on a cruise? How about someone with a train set out in the hallway, whistles blaring, bells ringing? Good god, imagine that!!
  18. I personally would not care how every single other person on the ship was dressed if I decided that a particular night was going to be a formal night out for my husband and me. I don't gaze across the room and compare how well I match everyone else. It's a fairly personal experience for us. But I get what you mean, if someone is given to worrying about such things.
  19. I’ll be on her in December. I’d be just fine with those numbers.
  20. The “sewage” smell is the exhaust coming from the funnels. It actually smells more like burning garbage. If there was a sewage smell your steward would be horrified. You won’t always be right in line with the ship’s exhaust. Enjoy the hours of fresh sea air when you can have them. But the stink from those things is just intrinsic to cruising.
  21. That would be whacky. In a usual land based Japanese steak house, the chef cooks for and entertains the entire contiguous table. What’s the point of having island seating that’s practically “theater in the round” if you’re going to completely ignore half of them for 15 minutes?
  22. Oh boy. That explains a lot. I reserved 4 different specialties because every time I finished a booking, the price was Zero. ha! I better go back and have another looksie.
  23. We've established that NCL doesn't have formal nights since they instituted Freestyle cruising. So, I'm not sure what you mean. I wasn't saying that there was anything ever engraved in stone, on any cruise line, at any time. I was merely giving the OP one possible guideline to go by to help decide when to dress formally, if that's what their party chose to do. One could also flip a coin, throw dice, or ask a Ouija board. All methods would be equally valid.
