  1. That's my tipping dogma too! But it's for receiving tips. I encourage all my students to tip their kind, wonderful, and omniscient professor "silently, discretely, and unacknowledged" at the end of each semester. "No one else ever need know that someone got a tip." 😁
  2. I am in the same boat. My Nexus expires in December 2022. The email I got in June from cbp.dhs.gov stated the following; Due to a significant increase in application volume, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is extending the grace period from 6 months to 1 year for any Trusted Traveler member who has a valid membership and who has submitted a renewal application. This means you will continue to receive full benefits for 1 year while U.S. Customs and Border Protection is finalizing your renewal application. My interpretation of this is my Nexus is extended to December 2023. Look for your email and see if it says the same thing.
  3. @Newbury newbie Don't give up for your friend so easily just because of some internet naysayers. Get your friend to contact Celebrity Corporate with a business proposal. The cruise line host sellers of 'art' and overpriced spa services, why not something in the 'fashion' world? Of course, if your friend's fashion items at $10 t-shirts or $5 costume jewelry he/she will have to brand them so Celebrity can charge $100 for the t's and $500 for the jewelry. Perhaps a Titanic logo like the Lacoste Crocodile. 🚒 Where would Elon be if he folded his battery powered tent after the first NO or if Steve Jobs had listened to the naysayers who believed Apples were only for eating!! Of course, where would Coke be if they had listened to all the NO's said about New Coke or Frito-Lay had listened to all the NO's folk's were screaming about Cheetos Lip Balm. πŸ˜‰
  4. The information is here: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise I assume Eclipse is going to Alaska which would make it an international cruise. Look under international cruises that depart from Canada.
  5. As @Brian V will be doing - on a much bigger scale it looks like! - there is a nice outlet Mall in FLL you can pick some things up at before your cruise. Or order some stuff from the big A to be delivered to your FLL hotel before departure. Both places sell luggage too and who cares if they misplace those for a few days on the way back.
  6. But what you feel about ArriveCAN does not matter in the slightest. Just like what I think about the U.S.'s various entry rules for foreigners does not matter in the least to the rule makers in your government. When in Rome ...
  7. But this is Cruise critic. We beat to death every cruise related topic! This place should be called Dead Horse Critic or Nine Lives Critic or ......
  8. It looks like these are quasi private placement convertible bonds to replace some current issues of convertible bonds, a 2.875% convertible senior notes due November 15, 2023 and 4.25% convertible senior notes due June 15, 2023. i.e. non dilutive and my guess at a high interest rate and better conversion price for the purchasers. Sadly, they will only be sold to Institutional buyers and will not be registered for public purchases if anyone was interested.
  9. The auto tips/service charge covers your tipping for the wait staff during a cruise. If you want to tip extra for some extraordinarily wonderful service that's up to you. As for the amount you may be thinking of for any of those extra tips, remember this the internet and everyone on the internet looks like Brad Pitt or Beyonce. πŸ˜‰
  10. Celebrity is essentially an 'adults only' cruise line already. Making it official would not result is much gain but would it really cause much harm either? Over a full year, for the entire fleet of ships, what would be the % of passengers who were children, 5% perhaps? If it's this high, what lost business are we talking about here, 10%? including lost kids and their parents (and in some cases other family members) If Celebrity went officially 'adults only' how difficult would it be for them to replace these lost revenue sources? At the present time, with the industry in recovery phase and facing global economic headwinds it would likely be quite difficult to replace any lost revenue sources but when Covid and the current economic climate are behind the industry (assuming the industry survives) it will be much easier to replace these lost revenue courses. As for the advisability of going officially 'adults only' at any time, with X being essentially an 'adults only' cruise line already my attitude is; why rock the boat (or ship πŸ˜‰). There is an old phrase that applies here; if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  11. WOW! I'm sure glad I waited to respond to after my first coffee this morning. Pre my coffee I read your response and thought for a moment that you were actually being serious. Now that I have had a couple of sips for my dark roast your sarcasm shines brightly! β˜€οΈ Isn't caffeine wonderful! β˜•
  12. 9 pages in and I bet you now know how Victor Frankenstein felt about his creation! 😁
  13. Mrs. Dawg and I are a wee bit older than you, and with some age related health issues. We both got our 4th shots as soon as we could and if (when) a 5th is available we will get that one ASAP. For us it's all about cost/benefit. (What would you expect, she is a CPA and I'm a Finance/Economics Prof). The costs are minimal and the benefits potentially could be huge! That said, our 30ish sons, who are all very healthy, may make a different decision based on their own cost/benefit analysis. I never got a flu shot before I started working at the university. The first winter there I was sick with the flu way more than I ever was when I worked with adults in industry. My environment changed so did my cost/benefit analysis regarding flu shots. Covid has change the environment too, just in a more planet-wide sense.
  14. Glad you enjoyed your experience. BTW - GREAT title for this thread. I saw it and HAD to click on it. πŸ‘
  15. I took the liberty to add some comments to your lessons learned. πŸ˜‰
  16. That's what I thought when I started reading this thread a few minutes ago. Great minds do think alike! 😁. (Of course so did Lloyd and Harry but let's not go there.πŸ˜‰)
  17. All that information is stored and all you have to do is update the new trip information. As for getting rid of 'this crap' not likely anytime soon. And if they do eventually get rid of ArriveCAN it will likely be replaced by another electronic entry app. They may drop the vaccination requirement at some point when and if Health Canada decides that course of action is warranted (And remember, their job is to protect the health of the Canadian populace, not to make travel more convenient). But even if they do drop the vaccine requirement mobile entry apps are hear to stay so we as travellers better get used to them. Happy Travels in the new 21st century!
  18. Perhaps those investment banks had higher price targets hoping to be part of an underwriting group for a Royal equity issue and all the very large underwriting fees that go along with an equity issue. Now that Royal said no to a new equity issue in the near future ....... πŸ˜‰
  19. I, wondering how much do you have to 'win' at the casino to be comped one of these cruises with drinks and WIFI vs. how much do you have to 'win' for just the basic comped cabin?
  20. But you are. Booking the Sea Thermal Suite on Beyond automatically gets you a very special massage where Celebrity deep massages your wallet and with your wallet being sooo relaxed afterwards, it gladly gives up 18%. ☺️
  21. Totally agree with you about people shouldn't ask an obviously injured person to lift their bag. But doesn't the proverb "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." apply here in your hubby's case also. πŸ€”
  22. Ah, the good old days 😍 ..... back in the 70's; white suits, platform shoes, disco dancing up a storm just like Travolta and without throwing out my back, or ankle, or my hip. And Johnny and I both had hair back them. Yep, definitely the good old days!
