Smaller ship, 2,000 passengers, but really enjoyable. Nice lounges including the Universe Show Lounge. Generally lots of public space, indoor pool, full Wheelhouse Bar with dance floor, Nice Explorer's Lounge also with dance floor. Sabatini's, Bayou Cafe & Steakhouse which may have piano entertainment. Balconies are not Hobbit sized like on the Royal class ships. Forward looking buffet area. Lots of upper deck viewing areas. Full 360 degree covered promenade. Small International Cafe. Great card & game room. Nice library with nice views. Personally I like the design of the Coral much better than the Royal Class ships. Being on the Coral is what cruising is supposed to be. On this ship I would suggest Traditional Dining.

I am doing this cruise on Jan 21, 2020

I got off the Coral in May and love the ship. It is for sure a smaller ship, but I found it in very good repair, loved the crew.

I have also booked one of the 2020 cruises to Antarctica and have been on the Coral a couple of times. I agree with everything sknight said but will add that the Coral also has "secret" fore and aft viewing areas on most of the passenger decks. I think it is the perfect ship for this itinerary, and I am someone who loves the Royal class ships as well.

Never sailed Royal class (yet) but love Coral Princess. Viewing decks forward and aft on Baja and Caribe decks. The aft viewing decks have loungers. If you book Traditional Dining be aware that early dining on this ship is at 5:15. Crazy early in my opinion. Much larger balconies than Royal class and more pools.

I agree with Sknight & Thrak. Very good comments.

We sailed the Coral in February 2018 with fresh impressions of the Coral.

Many recent reports indicate the rehab (2016) of the Coral looks like they did a good job. We agree. Yes, it's an old ship that's well maintained. New beds, new carpeting, new gym equipment, regular dry dock maintenance, etc... Some CC members indicated they prefer the Coral over the Island Princess. They did not like adding 250+ passengers which took out the Promenade on deck 7 aft, plus the Universal Lounge. Other felt the latest rebab left the Island crowded in public areas. We're glad we booked the Cora lPrincess over the Island.

Thrak -- We're Elite and enjoying every minute. Your time will come!

We have never been on the Royal or Regal. Our favorite ships are the Grand Class type of ships.

On the Coral, we found--

Pros:

Nice balconies, Smaller number of people getting on and off, beautiful Promenade Deck, nice public decks on the front and back of the ship.

Cons:

Very small International Cafe, No Vines :-( and it "felt" like in the evenings there was just a bit less options. The worst con is the dining room for Anytime Dining. They almost insisted that you share a table for 10 (usually). We don't mind sharing sometimes, but sometimes don't want to take nearly 3 hours for dinner. We also really like breakfast in the dining room to be a table for 2 and found we had to be REALLY insistent to make that happen, even when we walked in and hardly any tables were taken....

We enjoyed our cruise on the Coral and for many it is their favorite ship. We would sail on her again, however, if there was a Grand Class type, we would pick that first.

YMMV

It would be helpful to know what you enjoyed about the Regal & Royal, since both ships are almost identical, and you have not sailed on a different class of ship.

The Coral is our favorite ship. We like that it has fewer passengers, lots of open deck space, and a full wrap around promenade deck. The decor to me, is more typical of the older ships, with dark wood in the common areas, and with the Wheelhouse bar having a nautical theme. The horizion court is in the very front, with a 180 degree view, which is great when scenic crusing, like Alaska or of course the Panama Canal, which is what it was built for.

The service has always been good on the ship, anywhere we have dined or had a drink. The food in the MDR was fine, and we could always find something to eat in the HC.

There are plenty of reviews on the Coral and we have the one posted in our signature right after dry dock. It's going to look a lot different on the inside than the newer ships, and some like it and others don't.

Hello Sknight, could you please tell me why you suggest Traditional Dining on the Coral. We are sailing on her to Alaska in May 2019

Thanks Maureen

We recently were on the Coral in Alaska, it's now my new favorite Princess ship! Liked the size and layout, especially the Horizon Court. My only complaint is who thought it was a good idea to put the International Cafe right next to and open the Casino? Fortunately, there didn't seem to many smokers in the casino when we were at the IC. We had Anytime Dining and were given beepers most nights but had 10-15 minutes waits. I would definitely sail on her again!

  • 1 month later...

Spoiler Alert-

We were on the Coral in January and discovered that we love the Golden,

Crown, and Regal..... more choices, better food, Horizon Court location, and

Skywalker's (not on Regal).

Having sailed on all the above mentioned ships numerous times, there is nothing that compares to the Royal Class ships! From the cabin layouts, the showers, the in-cabin wall-mounted large screen TV's, the on-demand TV programming, the dining options, the decor, the bar venues, should I continue? We like the Coral and will be sailing on her in a couple months, but PLEASE there is no comparision to the Royal Class Ships!
