Is there anyone else who have never been in a balcony?

Recommended Posts

Just curious if I am the only one! On my last cruise, I "splurged" and got an oceanview, but other than that, every cruise I have taken has been in an inside cabin. After reading posts about this suite and that suite, and all the perks, I'm thinking to myself, am I the only cruiser who books an inside all the time? Truth is, I'm afraid if I ever upgrade, I'll never want to go back to an inside, and I'm not sure my budget can afford that! :)

Years ago I had booked inside cabins for my husband and I as well as two friends. Prior to sailing there was a big price drop and the only option was an upgrade to a balcony. I did this without telling anyone so that they could all be surprised. Needless to say, I can never go back to an inside again! :) Once you've experienced it there's just something so magical about it that it wouldn't feel like a cruise without it. That's just my feeling, someone else may feel entirely different. While some say that they get the best sleep ever in the insides, I always had a hard time dragging myself out of bed! Now a suite, that I can do without, for the price difference I'd rather take two balcony cruises! :D

We have always had a balcony. For me, the best part of the cruise ( and I love cruising) is getting up early in the morning and sitting out there with my coffee. There is nothing more relaxing and peaceful than watching that big beautiful ocean go by.

I hadn't been, (except for AK) until I got my Platinum ( and now Diamond) discount. I like value, and I didn't see the value of paying more for something with no better amenities that went to the same place as an interior cabin. Now on most sailings, my discount covers the difference between and ocean view and balcony price; but even if it didn't - I now see the value, and won't do without one or at least a window;):p

I love sitting on my balcony at sunset and watching the sail away, or getting up and seeing the docking while in my robe! I also have found I am rarely (certainly not in the Caribbean)'sea sick anymore! I've decided that "experience" is as good as an " excursion" to me, and I'm willing to pay at least what I would pay for a nightly sunset cruise:D

We have only ever had inside with exception to 1 upgrade to oceanview when we went to Alaska. If it means we can have more cruises then inside will do us. We are early risers and late going to bed anyway so do not spend much time in cabin.

We have never been in a balcony cabin, we had an outside cabin on our first cruise but after that we decided that interior cabin suits us better. We spend very little time in the cabin and I can't sleep unless it's pitch-black so no sunrises (or windows...) for me. :o

Balconies are horrible! I should know I have had 3 and one was a suite!

Cruisers who only get balconies are always complaining about smokers on other balconies! Insides never have that problem;) Balcony cruisers always complain about chair noise from above:confused:

Balcony cruisers are boring people who dont know how to socialise with anything other than a good book or the room service steward with cheese platter to complement said book with an occasional glass of red!

Inside cruisers rock! and are much better people than Balcony cruisers are!

Great thread ;)

Do not forget that with a balcony not only a great breakfat venue, but also at then end of the day to take a beverage and just chill. Also with a Balcony on RCL you achieve D/D+/P together with the add-ons the tier points bring. Happy Cruising and keep an eya on the deals as you achieve balconies for just a few dollars more with the D/D+/P status.

No, you are not the only one. This is our 4th cruise and all we have done is inside and ocean view. For me it is just not about the room. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere and on excursions or different trips throughout the year. We talked about it this time and the only way we were going to upgrade was to a suite for more room. Kind of an all or nothing thing. And yes, I sleep like a baby on the interior rooms. I wake up the minute a crack of sunlight comes in.

Don't worry about it. We stayed in insides and oceanviews until we felt that we afford to go with a balcony. Of course, when we finally "bit the bullet" the kids were too big to all stay in one cabin so DH and I got the balcony and kids got the inside!!

I personally don't see why everyone needs a balcony right away on their first cruise. Are they nice, yes, but not a necessity for every cruise.

Been on 10 cruises and usually get an Oceanview. A couple of times we've been upgraded to a balcony. Generally I will now get the balcony if there is a marginal price difference from an Oceanview. For a large price difference I stick with the Oceanview. Last summer we had a balcony on Liberty of the Seas. Can't say that we spent enough time there to make it worthwhile.

We leave on our 5th cruise next Saturday :D and it will be our 5th inside cabin. I feel the same way as to 'What I don't know, I won't miss' strategy. I've actually never even seen a balcony room.

Also, I guess I'd just rather spend the money elsewhere such as more cruises, better excursions and other trips (Vegas!) throughout the year.

We are rarely in our cabin other than to sleep, shower and change clothes.

Since we'll be Platinum after this trip, something may change, but for now I'm happy being in the dark :p

Hi,

When DW and I cruise together it's always a balcony cabin or JS balcony.

When I cruise solo, I prefer inside cabins because I sleep like a log.

I am fine with either one....as long as I am on the ship!

Bon Voyage.

Our first cruise we did an oceanview, then were unlucky enough to get a good deal on a balcony on our second- and there's no way we can go back. Even though I don't spend a ton of time out there, there is something magical about being out there, watching the water go by, hearing the sea, or at night seeing other ships or land in the distance.... sorry, what was a saying? I got distracted a moment there. I'm clearly in less-than-a-month-till-my-cruise mode.

I've stayed in a Grand Suite, JR Suite, Balcony, Ocean View, Inside.

This Fall I'm booked in my first PR room on the Freedom.

To be honest I don't really care what time of room I'm in because I'm NEVER in my room. I enjoy being in the sun all day of my vacations.

I do like the double points of the suite. But thats about it for me...

Ditto :)

However we did splurge for a balcony on our Panama Canal cruise and are splurging again on our Alaska .. but then it is back to the inside cabins

Clearly I'd rather have a balcony but if the options were inside or nothing, I'd do it. A couple years ago I took my grandson on a short trip and we did inside. It was fine. I still don't even bother with a suite. Too rich for my blood.

We have been in inside, oceanviews and a TA balcony. While I liked the balcony and it there was only a $100 pp. difference, I have to say that we didn't use it much because of the outside temps, mist and the wind. These weather issues were most noticable in the Nov. Mediterranean and then most of the Atlantic crossing. Things became better as we entered the Caribbean area.

We ate breakfast outside one day and it was lovely but those tables are so small. I think it is important to listen to your budget and not listen to people who can easily afford balconies or suites and then think that choice is essential. I am able to cruise more often and enjoy excursions more because of my lower cost cabin choices.

I've nvever cruised before, but I'm going on FreedomOTS in May and we booked a inside promenade stateroom. It was a decent price, and I'm willing to give it a go. But I think the next cruise I go on I'm going to book a balcony.
