does anyone know what the rules are regarding vape mods on the sky? my son has a mod that takes 18650 batteries, is this something that would be prohibited, we are aware he can only vape in smoking areas, but we just unsure of if his device is allowed or not

We also vape and yes, you are considered a smoker so in smoking areas only. Especially with that mod since it puts out a lot of steam/cloud. We take both, our large mods and smaller mods. We have the same batteries and have no problem using them on the ship or charging them in our stateroom.

I use the smaller set up in the casino so I do not put out so much steam/cloud but use my big mod in the stateroom. And yes, I am aware that technically we are not suppose to use them on our balcony or stateroom.

Vaping has become so popular that you will see people blatantly walking around and vaping through out the ship. We are not so bold. We always sit in the smoking section on the decks but yes, we do vape in our stateroom. We have even done it, accidently, in front of our butler who had not problem with it. He also vaped.

So, just tell your son to bring extra batteries, charger and plenty of juice and enjoy the cruise. Hope this helps!

I think HAL has the best policy on this; while vaping is prohibited on balconies just like cigarettes, they permit vaping in the staterooms. As far as I know they are the only mass market line that allows it, but I expect others to follow suit after a while.

My Bride vapes.. I'd rather get a cloud of vape over just a whiff of tobacco smoke! Vape 'em if you got 'em!

You do realize that the chemicals in electronic cigarettes is far more dangerous than those in a tobacco cigarette don't you? Not to mention there are absolutely no controls or standards as to what is allowed in those cigarettes.

No, it's not. One is the vaporization of a liquid the other is the combustion of tobacco. The combustion of tobacco results in the formation of smoke (that contains a range of chemical constituents), heat, and ash. The high heat associated with combustion leads to the thermal breakdown of the tobacco when it is burned, resulting in the production of many of the toxicants found in cigarette smoke.

I would strongly suggest you do a little research and educate yourself before stating an opinion as fact.

E-cigarettes have been proven to be 95% less harmful than smoking tobacco.

End of story.

We were so lucky we never had any smokers in our family except for the one uncle that had to speak out of his throat since the mid 1960s until he died in 2010. It was hard to understand him. So, I hate to be around smokers. I don' really even know about vaping. But, why would you knowingly do something in your room that is illegal. What a great example, you are for your family !

And I think we all can recall when we were told that cigarette smoking was safe.

Let's give it more time for additional research to be done before we raise the flags that it does no harm to those vaping or those around those that vape.

REALLY????? You had to post this twice to get your point across? We get it, you think Vaping is the same as smoking. Thank you for your opinion but once is enough please.

I replied to two different posts. Sorry if you choose to partake in such an unhealthy habit, no need to get hostile or defensive about it though.

The vaporization of liquids forms much smaller toxic particles that easily get deeper into the lungs and causes much more severe damage. Liquid nicotine is one of the most toxic substances known to man. It is so toxic that when handled requires the handler to wear a gull hazmat suit. Smoking, whether it is a tobacco cigarette or an electronic cigarette is smoking and they are both very serious heath concerns for both the smoker and those around them. Have fun.

I see you have no comprehension of the heath hazards of liquid nicotine at all, not to mention that vapor particles are much smaller than the solids that smoking a traditional tobacco cigarette create. Smoking, whether a tobacco cigarette or an electronic cigarette is committing suicide on the time delay plan.

Can someone tell me what is in the vapor from an e-cigarette. A Google search mostly brings up articles like "is it safe" etc. I ask because I don't think it's just CO2. There are other things in those clouds of vapor.

I do not want any vape smell in my cabin that comes from a previous user.

What if it isn't liquid nicotine?

I guess I'm glad I vape nicotine-free e-liquids...

Although pure nicotine (as you seem to be referring to) is definitely poisonous, the small amount of diluted nicotine used in e-liquid is most comparable to caffeine. Both are categorized as naturally found (tobacco leaf for nicotine, coffee, tea and other herbs for caffeine) alkaloid stimulants and both are addictive. However you seem to be implying that vaping is just as dangerous as traditional smoking, which just isn't the case. It is as we say "the lesser of 2 evils"

The research has been published, it's up to you to read it and accept it...

First thing is that vaping hasn't been around enough to determine "long term effects" and depending on where you look you can find studies on both sides of this argument. Personally what you do in your own house I really don't care but in public until they can really prove there is no hazard it should be held to the same standard as smoking.

From Scientific American....

But is there really no second-hand “smoke”?

Don’t be so sure. A small study by Wolfgang Schober of the Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority and colleagues published in the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health in December found that vaping worsened indoor air quality, specifically by increasing the concentration of nicotine, particulate matter, PAHs and aluminum — compounds that have been linked to lung and cardiovascular disease and cancer among other health effects.

No matter how diluted, liquid nicotine is still one of the most hazardous chemicals known to exist. It is on no way comparable to anything else. I worked as an R&D engineer for a major tobacco company for many years. I know first hand what liquid nicotine is all about. Smoking an electronic cigarette is far more of a health risk than smoking a traditional tobacco cigarette. Your opinion is not relevant.
