50+ year olds on Carnival......

So, I'm looking at the Carnival Legend for a cruise the week of Thanksgiving this year. I hate to rely on past-reputation, but I am wondering about how comfortable two 50+ (just barely, of course), single women would be on a Carnival ship. I have a strong preference for RCI, but the Carnival has an itinerary we'd like to do.

Feedback would be very much appreciated.

I'm 44 and DH is 52 and we really enjoy sailing on Carnival (of course we also like RCL too). During the times we've sailed I would estimate 20%-30% of the passengers were our age. Just keep in mind that Thanksgiving week is a big week for families as many children have an extended period of time off. Our school district is closed that week.

We're cruising on the Glory, the Saturday after Thanksgiving and almost everyone over on our roll call is in their mid 50s!!---dh is 58 and I'm 55 and we love Carnival. We really enjoyed our RCI cruise too but prefer Carnival.

My husband and I are in our early fifties - we love Carnival! We are both young at heart and enjoy the casino and the nightlife on the Carnival ships. Actually, I'm afraid to try another cruise line, because I don't want to be bored due to the lack of after-dinner activities offered on the more "sedate" cruise lines. I LOVE the 'fun ships'! I'm sure you will too.

I think that RCL and CCL are two peas in a pod -- there really isn't enough difference between them to notice -- with that said, I think that CCL has a "freer" feeling -- a little bit more hanging loose. Which can be good .... or bad!

If Carnival has the itinerary that you like -- don't worry about cruising with Carnival!

Although we don't like sailing during school holidays, DH and I have enjoyed ever cruise we have been on. We are in our early-mid 50's, we retired early and consider crusing as a lifestlye, not as a vacation. We shop for the best military rates, use our shareholder OBC, and try to make a game out of how to get the best cruise value. If you can just go with the flow (because no cruise is flawless), you will LOVE crusing on Carnival.

We will be on our 5th Carnival cruise in November, and we are both in our early 50s. Every time we have sailed in the past there appeared to be a good balance of young, middle-aged, and older people onboard, and I might say, they all seemed to be having a good time. I know we did :).

I'm 'way past 50, and I enjoy my Carnival cruises. There WILL be lots of families (kiddies) during your cruise, so be prepared.

Recently off an RCI cruise - no differences that I noticed, except RCI didn't offer some of the things Carnival does - like Tea Time in the afternoons, and complimentary espresso and cappuccino in the dining room. Oh, and the MUCH smaller cabins on RCI. Otherwise, I could barely tell a difference.;)

Thank you ALL for your quick responses. I think it has alleviated my fears that were derived from "years ago" stories about Carnival being an extreme party cruiseline. I know they have worked hard to erase that image, and it definitely sounds like they have. It sounds wonderful and just what I'm looking for.

I'm not sure if your name has anything to do with the Red Hat Ladies, but my wife and I(58 & 57) were on a cruise last year with a chapter from this group and they had as much fun as anyone on the ship. You will have fun if you want to have fun. I don't think age has much to do with fun on a cruise ship, because of the variety of activities offered.

I will be fifty next year and have 5th and 6th cruise planned for next year. Four on Carnival, one on DIsney (Chrysler paid for) and one next year to Hawaii on NCL (Chrysler paying for again). I love Carnival. You can see where we spend our money. Carnival

My Mother and a group of her friends cruise with Carnival about once a year. There are about 15 - 20 of them and they range in age from 55 to around 70. They love it. Most of them are single ladies, but there are 2 or 3 couples that go.

My sister and I are both in our 50's (shhhh I didn't tell you that) and we love Carnival. Of course both of us consider age just a number, not a concept. We may be growing older, but we're never growing up!

There were a group of Red Hat ladies on our recent cruise and they looked like they were having a ball!

DW and I are 62 and 60 years young respectivly and we have really enjoyed our time on our Carnival cruises. I'm going to guess that your level of enjoyment will depend on how young at heart you are. If you think because you have your AARP card that your old then you are. Besides from what I've been able to determine there really isn't that much difference between Carnival and RCI. Go have a good time and let us know what you think.
