Coast guard out of Ft Lauderdale

The gunner on our coast guard escort was having such a great time while they were escorting us (on Oasis) while we were leaving port.He was hooping, hollering and yelling for all of us to scream. Someone yelled and asked if he liked his job and he yelled "YES! I live my job!!!!"

What a great way to liven up the already exciting exit.

Anyone else had this guy escort you out of port?

The coast guard escort the following week on our B2B was not as animated as the one from our Oct 6 Oasis sailing. I wonder how many pink boa feathers fell on him :)

Wow Emmy! You have a great memory! Yes, we were on the Oct cruise! My 8 yo ds decided he wanted to do that for a living! I attempted to explain to him that the coast guard does much more than escort cruise ships out of port! Lol!

LOL Amanda of course I recall. I looked at Wendy's roll call list plenty of times. :) lol Hope you enjoyed Oasis as much as I did both weeks :)

Semper Paratus!

This story reminds me of a few years ago on the Serenade as we sailed out of Astoria, Oregon. The USCG boat that escorted us was having some fun, they would come up our side at full speed and jump our bow wave and then turn around and go back behind us and then come up our side again. They did this quite a few times, it was nice to see that these dedicated people can have some fun in their job.

I haven't sailed out of Lauderdale since 2006 and haven't noticed anywhere else... Is the escort a normal thing they do?

Last time we sailed into Skagway we had an escort, in 2006. We found it rather strange.

my son spent 4 yrs in the Coast Guard.....dont think he ever escorted cruise ships but did have a great time busting drug dealers in the Caribbean and in various ports when the ships were there......as he said " lots of beautiful young ladies in port".......

Photo deleted to save room. Your son is very handsome. It makes me feel good that my 63 year old heart still flutters :p when I feel a good looking young man in a uniform.

Rosie, do you often FEEL good looking men in uniforms? It must get awkward for them. ;)

My only sibling (sister) has been in the CG for 20 years. The first time DH and I had an escort out of port (LAX) I texted her to ask if that was normal or something that was implemented after 911. Now we look forward to seeing them escorting us out of the port.

We will be sailing out of FLL in March, so will make sure to look for this guy. Hopefully he will still be stationed there and on our side of the ship.
