Buying Deluxe Package On Board

Recommended Posts

We all know it's required for all adults to purchase the package before sailing (or non-drinking adults must purchase the refreshment package). What about buying on-board? I haven't see any posts about that. Do the same restrictions apply? My mom drinks, dad doesn't AND he doesn't do coffee, juice, etc, just unsweet tea and water. It would be cheaper to do the deluxe on board, even at the higher price, than pre-purchase Deluxe and Refreshment.

I was on the Allure back in March of this year and was able to purchase just for myself on the first day. The person sold it said he wasn't suppose to do it but was making an exception. He said that to the 2 other people before me and my buddy behind me. So he was feeling generous. I did find buying a deluxe package for one (precruise while on sale 25 percent off) and refreshment package for other passenger (which they will let you do if you call) is about a wash for paying full price for one on the cruise ship.

We were buying ours on our May 5th Adventure and witnessed an older couple being told they both had to buy it. I don't know if they were offered the refresh package as a substitute or not but they to a pass and left.

Same rule onboard, though you might find them backing off a little and requiring the second person to get a soda package instead of Refreshment.

Bob, sorry to belabor this question, but have you heard or read anything recently WRT the Diamond+ or Pinnacle on-board discount for the deluxe beverage package? I never told you, but last November on Adventure out of San Juan, only by the outstanding assistance of Guest Services was I able to purchase it with that 30% discount; the online "flyer" did not even mention a beverage package discount. So I've been concerned that Royal was possibly eliminating this altogether.

I ask because I already purchased the Refreshment package for the DW because she cannot drink alcoholic beverages when it was also previously at 30% discount on the Cruise Planner. Obviously, I am going to plead that we can't have two deluxe packages when she cannot consume alcoholic beverages and try to buy just one for me. But I am noting that once again there is an alleged 50% discount sale on the Cruise Planner which, as I recall, is really 25% per package and if the 30% D+ discount isn't available anymore, may be the best price for Liberty of the Seas in October 2018.

BTW, I asked some friends who were sailing RCL for the first time to inquire about this at the GS desk; unfortunately, they really didn't understand the question, I suspect, and were told "Huh?" Not unusual! :D:D:D

As always, mil gracias. And Carol, if you're strolling thru these postings and see this and have some up to date information as well, please provide! :-)

I know that Pinnacle had the 40% discount on Adventure this past March. I've heard nothing about them eliminating this.

Thanks!!

And for the record, you respond at the speed of LIGHTNING! :D

Bob, is it strange no one has yet posted about Sub tropical Storm Alberto which is currently parked 60 miles south of Cozumel and from the satellite imagery is pounding that poor island with rain? Winds are about 40 mph which isn't too bad for us seasoned hurricane seasoners, but they are allegedly consistent.

And, yep, Liberty is parked right there today! Harmony was there yesterday but has since moved far away....

On our recent navigator crossing our table mates said that they allowed one person to buy because the other adult in the cabin didn't drink enough to make it worth her while. They were told it was an exception

I agree.

I think that you are safe, waiting until you are on board, Bruce.

Well, safe for the purchase of the package....now, as far as life expectancy with "La Reina," Not sure about that!!!

Great to hear from you and truly regret you didn't join us for the Adventure "Rescue of the Seas" voyage last November. :D

I promised Bob a full review but was so nonplussed by the time we were bussed to the airport, I sort of "let it ride." Believe me, I really do not think you would have regretted missing that one and possibly even some after it. But we thoroughly enjoyed 1320!!

Any chance you could make Liberty of the Seas on 14 October? :)

Does anyone know what the oboard price is for the deluxe alcohol package before any discounts? Just curious as to how much the difference is by purchasing it online before or once you are onboard the ship.

Royal uses dynamic pricing, there is no fixed price. Can vary cruise to cruise.

Bob (Host Clarea) is probably typing right now and he is an encyclopedia of all things cruise-related!

But I can relate that on Adventure of the Seas for a 25 November 2017 cruise out of San Juan, I paid $38 per day with the discount which means the undiscounted price would have been $55. And that seems to be the going "regular" price for cruises to the Caribbean out of US ports. Please note that these prices did NOT include the 18% gratuity which is always added to the package.

Now, if Bob provides different information, GO WITH HIS! :D

Depends on the ship and sailing, but normally between 58 and 65.

And, of course, you did! HA!

Seems that pricing per day appears higher on the newer classes, especially Quantum Class, but that's purely an anecdotal impression I am getting from reading the threads. And, of course, I didn't even mention TA or Europe or Asia because I know that those prices are very "dynamic," to employ your term.

Mazel Tov! But I thought that you were still on some Roll Calls; am I utterly mistaken?

FWIW, I actually listened (OK, READ and heeded) your "advice" and finally met my own grandchildren last Labor Day weekend up in Bothell (near Seattle), WA. So I am off THAT list! :D:D

Maybe when he gets old enough to cruise....??? :')

He's old enough now. 😉😄

But my next cruise sails on November 28.

He'll be more than 13 months, and the kids will put him in *school*.

I’ve seen it as high as $82 (including gratuity) here in Australia

That’s pretty steep!

Was this in USD or Australian dollars? I believe the Australian dollar is 75% of USD.

VR,

T Lex

It was in USD - Royal maintains onboard prices in USD no matter where they are sailing

The current beverage price on my August cruise on Explorer is $42. I’m assuming that it won’t go any lower and we should buy now, correct?

I’ve never bought the package because I drink for free in the casino and am diamond plus but I’m cruising with a gold non gambler friend. She’ll help keep me out of the casino during all my free time and I’ll be saving a lot more that the cost of the package.

No way to know if it will go lower or higher. However, if you purchase and later see a lower price, you can cancel and reorder.

Very few times it has been less than$42 recently.
