If you choose to do this, be careful. This is against the rules of the cruise line.

Honey, they aren't worried about that. I could tell you stories over the last 45 years of cruising that would blow your mind I've had the captain let me guide the ship and done things that today would make you crap grapes. Don't be so scared and just enjoy life. I promise you won't be kicked off the ship. You might even feel alive.

Diamonddaddy said it so it's so

Were just of Liberty and had package, As I looked back it wasn't really cost effective for us. Achemey Bar we had a couple of drinks that was a little over $10 but we only averaged about 6 drinks a day do to port excursions. Was had to get dinner alcohol service outside of shooters which are not covered. Wine was easy to get. As far as high dollar drinks, asked for Johnny Walker Blue and they don't carry. So if you drink less than 10 drinks a day not worth it.

6-7 drinks a day per person is worth the Cheers program!

Has anyone heard of any exceptions to the Cheers program? My wife and I are going on a cruise in April and I want to purchase the cheer program for myself only. My wife recently had surgery and cant drink any alcohol or soda. I called an inquired about it but the Carnival rep told me there are no exceptions. Doesn't seem right that even with a Doctors order.

I'm on the Liberty now, docked in Montego Bay Jamaica. We purchased the Cheers program and it's worth it just for the bottled water alone. Sure, I can get a lot of alcoholic drinks but the water and coffee shop is what sold me. We are on day 3 of 8 and already have had our monies worth.

I considered it, but decided it just wasn't cost effective for us. First, neither of us are huge drinkers, though we certainly plan to indulge a bit on the cruise (me more than the wife). But we're on an 8 day cruise, so the cost would be almost $1000 after gratuity. Just can't justify that. Maybe on a 3 day 'booze cruise'.

you can get a 12 pack of water for 3.99. thats an awful lot of water to make it worthwhile

my quick math says you need to drink about 144 bottles of water a day to make it worthwhile

Sorry, I have never heard of an exception being made. In fact, others have posted that they had doctor's notes and still couldn't get Carnival to bend the rule for them. So, the bad news is: you're not going to be allowed to purchase Cheers! for just you, but the good news is: maybe there's finally one area in which Carnival is being consistent.

So can I order a margarita and tell them I want it made with Patron with the cheers package?

Yes. I did this every time. I had 1 bartender poor from the big jug and tried telling me it was Patron. Every other time, I saw them pull the bottle and make it.

As non and light alcohol drinkers, I'm curious to see the menus for the rest of the stuff. How much is the specialty coffee and tea that is included now? Bottles of water? Milkshakes?

Hubby is super interested in cheers now because he would drink a specialty coffee, 1 or 2 a day, tea all day, maybe a milkshake a day, and then 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks a day. Wondering if it would be worth it if we're not heavy on the alcohol. I wouldn't purchase it for myself, but would drink soda, milkshakes, and the non alcoholic versions of some of the drinks if I had access to them for no extra charge. I usually get a bubbles card and just do soda, but I could do some frozen stuff too if we ended up with cheers.

If I remember correctly, the coffee and milkshakes were around 5.95 and the water (at the bar) was 1.25. You can also order a 12 pack of water to your room for around 3.99

Non alcoholic drinks included in the CHEERS program do not count toward the 15 limit of alcoholic drinks. Non alcoholic are unlimited, just a 5 minute minimum wait between orders.

On the Dream last week, they did not impose the 5 minute wait on non-alcoholic drinks for me. I always ordered a bottle of water along with my margarita and was given both at the same time.

Nope, no exceptions. I can't even begin to imagine the number of doctor's letters guests would create if exceptions were allowed.

Let's just say it's not called Walmart of the Seas for anything the company does.

No they won't throw you off but what I have seen on other lines when folks where caught sharing was a warning first and then a removal of the drink package and they were then charged individually for each drink they had ordered

I'm feeling you there. These folks can't live their lives scared of their own shadows. You might be dead tomorrow so do your thing. Whoa mercy!

Mercy Daddy! Hahaha. I am assuming you are making a reference to Handsome Jimmy Valiant? Awesome! Good one.

  • 3 weeks later...

I do not consider myself a big drinker but got Cheers! for my Four day on the Triumph last week. Day one I came out just a little ahead of even, a couple drinks with lunch, one at the bar before dinner and another to carry to dinner, and a couple late in the casino. The other days it really paid off. We love the drinks at Alchemy so would go there at four when they opened for one, right before dinner at six to take to the dining room, one before the comedy show at 1030 or 1100 and one more right before they closed at midnight. At 10.50 each it only took one more frosty or fruity drink to break even. We also had at least $10 of coffee/shakes/vitamin water a day and several drinks at the slots each night. Plus wine at dinner once or twice and a ting mojito with our Huevos rancheros on sea days.

Ok, maybe I WAS a big drinker for a few days. [emoji41]
