I'm on the first voyage of the N.S. (I was on the last voyage of the old one). I had hoped they would do something after we arrived in FLL.

I would expect that you will receive some maritime memorabilia quality items during or at the end of your Maiden Voyage.

Don't discount the value of such items. It's amazing at the increase in value of such memorabilia as years pass. A Cunard Line pictorial brochure of the RMS Queen Mary and RMS Queen Elizabeth that I purchased at Pier 90 in 1958 for no more than $1 now sells, depending upon the seller (and the "reported" quality) , for $35-$100!

HAL usually has introductory books of their new ships and they are given to guests on early voyages and during Inaugural year. They always have In augrlal plates for each new ship. I would guess they likely will give all 'early' guests a book and the plate if they follow 'form'.

I have a ful set of the plates but for K dam........ I really have enjoyed them and like to look back to see the year each ship joined the fleet as each plate has the year.

It is kind of strange or unusual that the ship is 2 days in Ft Lauderdale , Dec 18 and 19 . After the TransAtlantic and before the 4 day cruise , which makes me think there could be something special going on on one of those two days ?????

My guess would be travel agent orientations and other types of publicity situations.

Or, maybe a "padding" in case the ship is delayed sailing from Europe or encounters King Neptune's wrath during her crossing to the New World.

HAL used to do 1 day "voyage to nowhere" sailings for agents and VIPs out of Ft Lauderdale with its new ships (speaking of the S class ships when they were new in the late 1990's).

We are on that sailing, and our itinerary shows us arriving in Ft Lauderdale on December 18th at 11:59 pm. Disembarkation is shown as Dec 19th.

They did a very beautiful dinner on board Noordam when she left Fincnantieiri , made the crossing and arrived in Boston. a VERy fun night.

However , she made the crossing with only crew and 'employees.' N S will have a load of guests .

I haven't been on a christening, but I was on the Eurodam when she sailed her maiden USA voyage for three nights out of NYC. We had a narrated guide as we went down the NYC harbor, and then their was a water spray show right in front of the Statue of Liberty. Somewhere I have a photo of that. After, some planes that had escorted the ship out of the harbor, dipped down to say farewell and they took off.

it was a very exciting sailing.

From a recent article in Coastal Living:

The latest Godmother to join the pack is none other than Oprah Winfrey, who was recently gifted the role for the Holland America Line’s newest ship Nieuw Statendam. As Godmother, Oprah will be present for the
private dedication
, and will host a three-day Girls’ Getaway cruise in January of 2019. (emphasis added)

But the dedication will definitely NOT be at the time of the Girls' Getaway which is January 30th. Expect the dedication to be after this cruise, not prior to it.

Sail7seas: Sorry I wasn't more explicit. I'm just used to so many people knowing me and where I am. :o

HAve we met? Is there some reason I should know you?

It is most unusual fo r a ship to take paying passengers prior to being christened. I don't recall hearing of a ship doing that.

I find this information about the ship's dedication from Coastal Living to be odd. I wonder how accurate the article is.

Breaking the silence from the Corporate Offices in Seattle would be most helpful as to informing those of us who are interested.
