GoingAway9 Posted September 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2009 How many people actually wear sneakers on their cruise? I am a college student and wear flip flops pretty much every day of my life (except at work). Considering that, do you think I really need them? I know I won't go to the gym on my vaca, so is there anything I'm missing that might require them?? You don't need to wear sneakers while parasailing, do you? That's the only thing I could think of that might force me to bring sneakers along...
Luckyroot Posted September 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2009 Flip flops will be find for walking around during the daytime. Just be sure to bring a nice shoe for dinnertime. And be cautious walking on deck. Decks can be sllippery (more so when wet). I've slipped several times, and fallen a few times too in flipflops. Don't even bring them now, except for beach time and walking around the cabin (but I'm a bit older than you I suspect) ;).
paul929207 Posted September 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2009 I wear sneakers when I go ashore. We tend to do a lot of walking.
GoingAway9 Posted September 6, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted September 6, 2009 I plan on bringing a pair of strappy heels, as well as a pair of black flats for dinnertime and shows. Trying to cut back on shoes and know I never wear sneakers :P Thanks for the suggestions!
yesaccasey Posted September 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 7, 2009 I wear flip-flops all the time. I do wear sneakers to the gym and wear something nice for formal night, but other than that plain old sandals are fine!
cb at sea Posted September 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2009 I've NEVER brought sneakers on a cruise...ever! If I was truly going to the gym to work out, I'd bring a pair, but that option's never been part of my agenda...flip-flops for day...fancy heels for night! Keksie Posted September 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 7, 2009 I have never worn them on the ship other then in the gym. I have worn them on some non-beach excursions such as ziplining or hiking. For the beach I wear water shoes since we tend to go to rocky beaches for the snorkling.
caribsun Posted September 7, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 7, 2009 We bring, water shoes flip flops running shoes dress shoes casual shoes I think that covers it.:p
ATL2LAS Posted September 7, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 7, 2009 Unless you plan on doing alot of running, the flip flops should be fine. I got a pair of Cloggens in Key west on a cruise and those are my casual shoes for everything. Enjoy your cruise and have fun.

grandmato4 Posted September 8, 2009 #11 Share Posted September 8, 2009 The only time I bring my sneakers on a cruise is if we have an excursion(s) booked with a lot of walking involved. The fewer shoes I need to pack the better:) No sneakers for parasailing. Doesn't sound as if you need your sneakers.:)
pom Posted September 8, 2009 #12 Share Posted September 8, 2009 Get yourself a pair of Crocs (Ugly yes, but you won't be slipping by the pool area):D Hello Ok you must know something that I do not know, because when I wear my Crocs and there is water on the floor wow they are the worst shoes to wear as you can slip really bad wearing them , so how do you not fall , because I love them as well
Valeen Posted September 8, 2009 #13 Share Posted September 8, 2009 I suggest you take "water shoes" for any beach activity rather than flip-flops. As evidenced by the shoreline tide piles of debris, flip flops tend to be easily parted from. I always bring athletic shoes/walking shoes for excursion use. Many places have uneven paths and flip flops would make the walking more risky, plus as others have said, beware of water on the floors of the ship. trish1c Posted September 8, 2009 #14 Share Posted September 8, 2009 DH always wants to do some kind of excursion where we have to walk or hike or do some other form of physical exertion that requires at least sneakers; hiking boots are better. :( I'd rather lie on a beach. It really depends on what you are doing.
trojangirl90066 Posted September 9, 2009 #15 Share Posted September 9, 2009 Get yourself a pair of Crocs (Ugly yes, but you won't be slipping by the pool area):D I beg to differ, I had a really bad slip wearing crocs on a wet surface.
GlendaleCruiser Posted September 10, 2009 #16 Share Posted September 10, 2009 We take a lot of excursions where there is walking, so I want them for that. Also usually walk around the deck at least once or twice.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 10, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 10, 2009 I know folks your age seem to live in the flip flops. For long walks I would recommend athletic shoes and you will find that is what the majority of folks wear. Keith
deckgirl Posted September 13, 2009 #18 Share Posted September 13, 2009 i've found some flips with sparkles and rhinestones that are perfect for formal nights.:D especially if it's a rocking/rolling night on the ship.
cruiserbryce Posted September 15, 2009 #19 Share Posted September 15, 2009 I take them and wear them ashore if there is a lot of walking involved, but for the most part its sandals (or golf shoes)
H2Otstr Posted September 15, 2009 #20 Share Posted September 15, 2009 Why don't you take an old pair, or buy a new, cheap pair, and leave them behind when you are finished with your cruise. I did that when I went to Mexico once.
