Anyone close to retirement? / when do you start counting the days?

My DW gave me a count-down clock last Christmas. As I write it says 306 days until I "graduate".

Actually, I will be somewhere on the way to the Southern Caribbean when it gets to zero! (I'll be on vacation as my last days at work.)

I'm SO looking forward to it!;)

Last full day with children today. Still a lot of grading and cleaning up to do. A person really collects a lot of stuff in 34 years. The next few weeks, I assume, will feel like like a regular summer to me. I wonder how I will feel in September??

Congratulations Katherine! I retired at Christmas and it felt great not having to go back to school and even better when standardized testing came and better yet no more snow days. See you in March on our cruise.

Happy Sailing!

Awwww..it looks so empty....now take that first step into retirement and think of all the work related never ending things you don't have to do anymore!! Look to your future and do what you want to do when you want to do it!!! Do things you never had enough time to do!!! And last but not least......Cruise on!!!!:) :) :)

I have a trip with my student group this coming week and that's the end of my ties to the school. Can't wait!

And I start my first cruise on July 1 -- 28 days on Cunard going to Europe.

Best of luck to you, Karen. Maybe we will meet up on a ship some day:)

I was booked onto a pre-retirement course on 10 July. Frustratingly, it has been cancelled as there weren't enough people interested. I was going to use the information gained on that to help with my decision making.

Wednesday I went to Baton Rouge which is where our retirement headquarters are located. Actually signed the papers and took them with me. All I have to do is put my retirement date down and fax it to them when I am ready. But it isn't until Jan . 27 which is Ok. It felt really great just to do that!! After we went there we shopped and went to a casino and spent the night. Needless to say, I drank way too much...lol...but had a great time!!!!!
