when does Splendor leave long Beach and head to the East Coast?

Hi, I will be boarding the Splendor on Feb 3, and travelling on her down and around South America, finishing up 48 days later in New York on March 23. I believe the first east coast cruise leaves later that same day.

It is my first time on Splendor and I am so excited. Have made lots of notes from the messages on this thread, so thanks to all of you that have travelled on Splendor before.

Much useful information in this long thread. We are joining SASA (Splendor Around South America, as the roll call has it) for the middle leg, 13 days from Valparaiso to Buenos Aires. We'll be dropping by here now and then during the time before we fly to Santiago.

Thank you to the person that pointed out this thread to me. I tried starting a new one not seeing this one! Anyway, just looking for some nice tips about Splendor. Its our first cruise ever and I'm getting so excited. WE will be with my 3 kids as well (9, almost 7 and almost 5) at the time of vacation :)

Just got back yesterday, the pizza bar is great, all made to order so expect to wait. If you can get away for a night do the steak house, well worth it, best food on the ship.

If you have any specific questions let me know we tried just about everything

has anyone here been on Carnival Miracle? the ship that will replace the Splendor in Long Beach? thoughts?

LOVE the Miracle - it's one of my favorite ships! We did a Caribbean cruise from NYC on her last year and loved every minute. The Miracle and the Legend are the perfect size - no getting lost!

We'll miss her here in NYC, but I'm looking forward to our June cruise on the Splendor - same one that we did on the Miracle but new ship! Can't wait!

By the time the Splendor arrives in NYC the 2.0 upgrades hopefully will be in place.

Did the Miracle last June with the same ports and the Miracle was a very easy ship to get around. Learned so far that you need to go up or down to get around the dining rooms since they share a kitchen that prevents you from walking from the front to the back of the ship on the dining room floors.

I may be mistaken, but I think the Splendor isn't receiving the 2.0 upgrades.

Perhaps someone who knows more about this could provide additional information?

I'd like clarification on this too.

The Splendor was originally scheduled for 2.0 upgrades in 2012, but it never happened. I didn't hear why.

It does have the Punchliners brunch, so the only other things it was going to get was the 2 bars on the LIDO, so I guess no big deal if it doesn't get those.

If it does have the Punchliners brunch, club and the new menus, not too much is really being left out!

Hope that is the case. Really enjoyed the 2.0 upgrades on the Miracle last June.

From what I understand the first cruise out of NYC on the Splendor is March 23, is this correct?

I assume from NYC they will have new staff or does the staff move with the ship?! I only ask because from the research of reviews, I have done, the service on Splendor seems very spotty.

Too bad it won't be getting the Blue Iguana bar, I would have loved to try out the Mexican themed food and drinks...

The Splendor was only scheduled to get the Blue Iguana Tequila Bar NOT the Blue Iguana Cantina. So it wasn't going to have the Mexican food anyway.

It was never scheduled to get Guy's Burger or the Alchemy bar, unfortunately.

Splendor DOES have a burrito bar and tandoor station.

Here was the original 2.0 implementation schedule:

Carnival Splendor

(Dry Dock: 2012 – dates TBA)

RedFrog Rum Bar

BlueIguana Tequila Bar

Punchliners Comedy Club & Brunch presented by George Lopez

DJ IRIE

Sounds like a lot of liquor sales to me. We are not drinkers but great eaters so I was looking forward to the cantina. Oh well I am sure I will have a great time with our Grandsons. Thanks for the info.

What are the 2.0 upgrades you speak of?

Going on this ship out of nyc in may - am just curious.

Punchliners Comedy Club

MDR Comedy Brunch on Sea Days

Change in menus

Tastings Bar (replaced sushi bar) and drink of the day

There were more, but that's all I'm coming up with now.

A head's up about the Tastings Bar. It was on the Miracle when we sailed on her 2/10-2/18. It's ONLY open on sea days. Also, you have to sit in the promenade area to eat. They give you a cute little square plate. On the MIracle it was very close to the casino where DH was hanging out at the slots and I got a plate and proceeded to walk into the casino and was very firmly told NO WAY JOSE. He said PLATES aren't allowed in there which I couldn't figure out.... maybe he meant plates of FOOD. Whatever....no biggie....

Comedy brunch sounds fun-----has anyone actually attended this? Is it worth going to?

And Tastings Bar - not sure what that is --- I have been on miracle and don't remember it.

Comedy brunch is OK, gives some variety over the traditional MDR breakfast menu, though I prerfer those offerings. You can get both breakfast and lunch type items, but we only went during breakfast time. The best part was the basket of muffins and such. It was great. The comedy is on the hour every hour and only lasts about 5 min. It's essentially the on board comedian(s) telling a couple of jokes and telling you to check out his show later in the cruise.
