All Things Splendor

Recommended Posts

Have any of you stayed in the Upper deck (6) aft wraps? There is an awesome video on YouTube of 6485, but what I'm wondering is ... is there any shade at all, or is it all sun all the time on sunny days?

We have this room booked for the June 10th cruise and we hope to spend a lot of time in those lounge chairs, but I was hoping that there is a little shade as the sun moves around (yes, I know it's the earth that moves :D). June is early and we will have no base tan to help keep us from burning. I do plan to bring a ton of high number sun screen and a large hat! Speaking of the hat - how windy is it on the aft section?

I've heard there is noise from the lounge below, but I bring ear plugs so that's not an issue for me.

Oh and do you know if they assign dining rooms by cabin location. Much as I'd love to eat in the Black Pearl for Pirates of the Caribbean reasons :) - the Golden Pearl would work out better for us.

We had a deck 6 aft wrap on the Triumph a couple of summers ago. I think it is very similar to the one you've booked on the Splendor. We had heard about the noise from the lounge below but heard very little, just a little thumping once in a while and a little talking and music when they opened the aft door to take out the trash. Not bothersome at all. It was very hot during the day, but because it had two sides there was some shade for in the early morning or late afternoon. It was not overly windy at all. The aft wrap balcony is *huge* and I loved the layout of the cabin, but I'm not sure I would book one again in the Caribbean due to the heat. For our next Caribbean cruise, on the Magic, we have a cove balcony, and I'm hoping we will be able to use it more.

On the Splendor, we had heard that restaurants were assigned by cabin location, as you have heard. Both times on that ship we were in the very front of the ship. Once we had the Golden Pearl assigned to us, and once the Black Pearl. So I'm not sure there's any rhyme or reason to restaurant assignment. If you are assigned the Golden Pearl, I hope you are as amused by the fried eggs on the ceiling as we were :D .

Enjoy the Splendor. She's a lovely ship!

Not sure if she is coming in that morning, or earlier, but her first cruise out of NYC is March 23rd- and I will be on it! :D

I HOPE, HOPE, HOPE you will be doing a review when you return! So excited for my Splendor cruise in July.

Have a fabulous time!

Kat, Remember your new Scottish friends for a wee party in your suite some night maybe for a sailaway from somewhere. We like a wee party now and again.

Nothing like inviting yourself? Not be long now. Just under 3 months to go.

We are booked in stateroom 6266.

LOL! We're practically neighbors!

We are on the June 10th and are staying right around the corner in 6436. I almost booked 6483, but heard that there is a lot of vibration in that cabin so hopefully you will be allright

Thanks, but our house is a block away from railroad tracks - I don't think any vibration is going to bother me :D! You haven't lived until you've felt a freight train go by at about 70pmh! My whole house shakes!

Are you on our roll call?

I have seen posts stating both that the taste bar is & is not on the Splendor. I have seen fun times from the Hawaiian cruise & there is a schedule listed for the sushi bar but no mention of the taste bar. Has anyone been on the Splendor & actually experienced the taste bar?

During my two cruises on the Splendor in 2012, the same sushi bar had sushi some nights and was a taste bar other nights.

To those who've only sailed on Spirit Class ships (Miracle, etc) this ships layout you may find to be much easier. It resembles that of the Conquest/Fantasy class which has a very easy flow.

For example, Many people didn't know about the Mad Hatter's Ball until half the cruise was over because it was tucked away, same for the arcade. Many kids got sick in Camp Carnival because it was placed in the bow of the ship. On these ships (or at least the classes I know) it's placed mid-ship where the least amount of rocking is felt. Also, the Atrium begins at deck 3, with deck 4 being shops/photo gallery/etc and 5 being the promenade. All 3 floors house the show lounge.

I personally got seasick on the Miracle once due to very rough seas and everything being either top or bottom of the ship. During rough seas, the best place to be is center mid-ship (Deck 5-7 on most ships) which allows you to enjoy the promenade's activities instead of feeling ill. I personally find it makes for a better flow. Literally everything, aside from Lido upwards, is on the deck 5 promenade. The arcade, casino, show lounge, piano bar, comedy club/karaoke, sushi/taste bar, nightclub+ other small intimate lounges, the sports bar, and club 02 are all located there. Ease of access is the best part. I personally prefer these style of ships as they feel sturdier in rough seas and just have a better flow, especially traffic wise. Its also nice not crashing into people when trying to take photos after dinner since most picture locations are on the promenade and the dining rooms are on deck 3. :)

Very interesting observations. Thank you for that. I am one who is nervous about the Splendor because I had been on Miracle 4x, Spirit 3x and Legend also and when I got on the ship it was like walking into my home. I knew EXACTLY where everything was! I am also lucky that I don't get sea sick. Matter of fact, we always book aft balcony cabins. I agree about Mad Hatters, tho, and also Gatsby's Garden which is so beautiful. I actually had a hard time finding it when we sailed last month and it was our 4thx on the Miracle! I think the "concern" is the flow of decks. How some of the decks are dead ends because of the galley. I know when we were on the Dream we always had to leave for dinner 15 mintues earlier because we ALWAYS got lost!:o I am just going to really study deck plans before we go. Course, if I have to get lost, a cruise ship is not a bad place to do it! Wish that would happen to me on the day they kick me off...."but Captain, I couldn't find my way off the ship!" :p

I'm just wondering how the Splendor could have the Taste Bar. Isn't that where they give samples from the alternative restaurants on the ship (like Blue Iguana, etc.). The Splendor could only have the steakhouse "taste'?

Although I am still confused about the 2.0 upgrades. They were scheduled to get some but never did. Is there any chance they will do the upgrades once they dock in NY?

Maggie, it is my understanding that the Taste Bar has samples from the alternative restaurants from ALL the ships. Last month on the Miracle I had a meatball from La Cuccina I believe it was....not sure what ship this is on...but they have a list at the "bar" on what is offered each day and what restaurant it's from. Don't forget, it's ONLY on Sea Days (which I don't understand either! ) Also, be warned, not sure about Splendor, but on the Miracle, I tried to walk over to the casino where DH was playing the slots with my small plate with the meatball and that is a NO NO. You have to stay there and eat it. He told me no food was allowed in the casino!:rolleyes: All I want is Guy's Burgers...I know they won't have it on the Splendor when we sail in May, but hoping they'll put it in sometime before we sail again in Feb, 2014! ;)

I will be on Splendor in Jan 2014. I am hoping for Guy's Burgers as well. I hope they keep the sushi bar and not the taste bar because I do enjoy the sushi on the promenade with a glass of wine from the casino bar.

The taste bar is located at the sushi bar. This was implemented as of December 2012, as far as I know. I was on the Miracle is September and they had a sushi bar then. In February it became the taste bar. Probably don't but that was when I was on the ship to verify. A lot of Fleetwide changes were implemented in December for Funship 2.0 via wetdock. This was confirmed by a head purser on my last cruise. I'll find out for sure in the March 31st cruise out of New York. :-)

Just off the Splendor. They did not have the taste bar and sushi bar was only open on sea days.
