MUTS a moan

I posted a comment a while back saying the same thing and no one seemed to agree. The lowed section of the theater get filled with smoke depending on how strong the ventilation is on a particular night. It can be anywhere from just noticeable to choking. I guess I'm not alone with my opinion.

ABSOLUTELY it's a problem...guess I missed your thread.

Even with pumping lots of air into the lower level it's still a problem along with the section just above it particularly near the entrance.

I believe this is why the seats upfront get filled last...due to the cold air attempting to disperse the smoke from the bar.

Even Princess must have noticed the problem with the smokers' bar in that location...at least on the Crown it is now a convention center. :)

Uh-oh...we'd better get back on subject before the "thread hijacking" police come after us.

We are hoping that the Football playoff games will be shown on MUTS during our Cruise in January. Unfortunately they cant please everyone

Princess will be :) with more beer sales :D

I'm also hoping for some football games either on MUTS, theater (did that for the Super Bowl) or on shipboard TV. :D

We both know the easiest & simplest solution is to keep the doors shut (I think there are doors there?) If not - add them during the dry dock & they wouldn't have to try to keep those blowers going full blast.

They have the same setup on the Ruby, Crown & Emerald but the problem isn't nearly as bad for some reason- but it is like sitting in a refrigerator. :D At least MUTS limits the smoking to the upper levels and the noise isn't nearly as bad.

Just come back from an absolutely fantastic cruise on Grand Princess.

Was really looking forward to MUTS which i thought ment Movies Under the stars i was mistaken it actually stands for American Football and world series baseball under the stars.

Did watch Prince of Persia on 1st or 2nd night which was brilliant and from then on it was the above.

I wonder how the American passengers would have felt if it had been Premier league soccer every night.

Several years ago My DH and I did the 14-day Grand Caribbean Adventure on the Sea Princess. It was my first experience with MUTS. It might as well been "Manchester United Under The Stars" because that's all I ever saw, EXCEPT on the one night they showed the men's NCAA basketball championship (Very big deal in the USA). American football is on Sundays and Monday nights (Until we get closer to the playoffs), but the American/National Championships are staggered in such a way, that yes they probably were on every night. I think it depends on the PAX make up. On our cruise about 85% of the PAX were from Britian hence all the Manchester United games. Probably on your cruise a larger percentage were American, which would explain all the football & baseball.

I agree & said so to Chrisbha in post #12 but no reply from them.

Apparently writing that it's okay when sports of interest for the majority of sports fans onboard are shown they didn't have a response. To me this is a non issue & not one that should be treated by nationality like too many others.

It's a pretty simple concept...Princess will show sports that keep the majority of their sports fans happy...and also to increase their bar sales. :D

If that upsets someone, then they should consider researching other cruise lines that might meet their needs. And do it without like an earlier post suggesting to make a stink about it at the Purser's Desk.

We won't be on the Crown until next fall but the deck plan shows a convention center in the space where Shooter's Bar on deck 6 just outside of the Princess Theater was located on the Star (different names on the Golden & Grand but still a smoking bar).

I also noticed the casino is just aft & further aft just outside of the atrium on the left (port) side was Speakeasy Cigar Lounge...wonder if that has replaced Shooter's for smokers?

Princess has created a bit of a mess for itself. MUTS can not be everything to everyone. Someone is going to be happy and others will be annoyed. Even if they play NFL games, there will be those that complain that they are showing the wrong game. (or the wrong sport for that matter.)

When it comes to concerts, there will always be those that complain that they do not like the music or its too loud. (and maybe it is)

When it comes to movies, there will be those that complain that the sound is too low and the screen quality is not good enough and people are talking like they're sitting around a pool. Oh wait - they are sitting around a pool!;)

On large ships like the Ruby - it is possible to avoid MUTS by going to other outdoor pools, so it really isn't that big of a problem. It must be a bigger problem on ships like the Coral where the outdoor pool now has MUTS and the aft pool is now part of Sanctuary. Who wants to swim in an indoor pool on a warm weather cruise?

It was always nicer to watch movies in the theatre or one of the lounges before MUTS was a reality. Now that MUTS is here - it is likely here to stay. Hopefully Princess will take closer looks at the individual ships and itineraries to determine how MUTS should be used to satisfy the majority of its passengers - although just reading these boards you begin to realize what a difficult task that will be.

I know I might be a minority with MHO about MUTS....but I can TOTALLY do without it, unless it has:

1.) Only Movies shown on it during the evenings

2.) Only Sports shown on it, if it is one major game and NOT Sports all Day or Night

3.) Totally turned OFF during the entire daytime hours

That is how I would ONLY like MUTS .....other than that I can TOTALLY DO WITHOUT IT!!!!

Really? We were in Manzanillo, Mexico in a hotel owned by a Canadian/Mexican couple last Super Bowl. We were the only 2 Americans in the entire hotel. It was standing room only for watching the Super Bowl out by the pool (we didn't arrange, or even suggest that the trouble be taken to arrange for a large television to be moved out by the pool for it--we wouldn't have thought anyone else would be interested--turns out we were wrong). Some people can appreciate athletic ability and gracefulness of athletes no matter the sport or sport's country of origin.

Maybe they are just watching for the commercials. :)

http://articles.cnn.com/2010-02-05/us/super.bowl.viewers.profit_1_global-audience-super-bowl-european-championship?_s=PM:US

"Outside the U.S., Canada and Mexico, only a couple million people see the Super Bowl -- and probably a lot of them are expatriate Americans,"

That said, we did watch part of a Giants game on our most recent cruise on MUTS (and MUTS did not really bother us during the day).

Cheers.

But maybe Princess will take note. I think MUTS in the daytime is crazy, unless there is something very specific with broad appeal, like the Super Bowl. People who want to listen to the band, can't hear the music for the movie noise. And people who want to listen to the movie, can't hear it because of the band. It ends up being alot of noise that no one actually appreciates. I have attended MUTS in the evening and enjoyed it! But MUTS in the daytime is just NUTS!

Heads up Princess!

While I do agree that MUTS during the day can become annoying, we managed to mostly ignore it. The big exception was during sailaway (we had 2 because of a b2b). That LOUD loop they run promoting the treasure hunt, which is just a long, loud, repetitive advertisement nearly drove us off the deck. Everyone complained that it was ruining the joy of sailaway, and the band was drowned out....after some complaints, they actually turned the volume down! Seems to me that Princess has a good thing going, but it sure needs some tweaking!!

Yes, it has. Much smaller than shooters.

Not hardly...it was a Canadian broadcast...the commercials are different (and trust me, no one was watching them)...you don't realize that those highly touted SuperBowl commercials actually add to the broadcast, until you get plain old ordinary commercials.

Please read my answer 40 i think it was. My argument was why call it "Movies" when it clearly isn't. As I also said i am a soccer fanatic but can live without it for 2 weeks. I also said it was almost full for movies but hardly anybody was watching baseball.

Hi There,

For me it is simple MUTS should show what keeps the greatest number of seats filled, if this in kids films, sports, etc so be it,

my issue is often there is a sports event being shown with only a few people watching,

Princess has indoor screens that it can use and for smaller events the conference rooms .

yours Shogun

I appreciate your very civil & considerate reply...thanks...and I owe you a few apologies. :o

My agreement with the other poster was responding to your question about Americans watching soccer which wasn't a problem with either of us. I must apologize if it appeared to indicate you were making it a nationality issue which some in other "heated" threads on this subject have suggested.

Nor were you the one suggesting to basically "storm" the Purser's desk to demand what they wanted to see...definitely not you & once again sorry for not wording my response more accurately.

I'm sure that Princess will show whatever will put folks into seats to increase their bar sales which may be the bottom line on what is shown.

Thanks again! :)

Apologies accepted. Had a lovely American couple & a Canadian couple on our dinner table who have already been back in contact with & hopefully will remain friends.

We've always had fun TD tablemates...particularly the Brits & the Canadians!

Once we had a very British gent who moved to Canada so we got 2 for 1. :)

We dined with him on a western/northern European cruise & I began to have a sore neck. I just figured it was from the bedding until he remarked..."it's because it's an ABC cruise".

Since I didn't have a clue about what he meant he explained..."yes, an ABC cruise...Another Bloody Church...Cathedral...Castle...take your choice"...which began to make sense to me! :o

I guess I fail to see what the complaints about MUTS really are. I'm a sports fan and enjoy it when they show sports on the big screen. They also show movies I don't care about, but guess that somebody does, so it really doesn't bother me.

Anyway, if you don't like what is showing on MUTS, there are 2-3 other pool areas for you to enjoy....

Mike
