If you cruised with new smoking policy, what do you think?

I smoked for 25 years before I quit 4 years ago ... and all I can say is that:

1.) I am so glad my life no longer revolves around what elements/laws/rules/snide remarks I'm going to have to suffer to get my fix...

2.) I never really grasped how horrifically bad it, and therefore I, smelled until I quit. A still-smoker might know that it doesn't smell good, but to someone who doesn't smoke, it's about as attractive an option as sticking your face into a freshly soiled diaper.*

3.) I am not judgmental at all towards people who still smoke and certainly don't consider *them* second-class citizens (like my daddy used to say), but, and I actually blame Chantix for some of this, I am saddened that there are places I used to go that I can no longer enjoy because the smell still makes me severely nauseated. And I don't think it's fare that I'm the one who has to give up an activity I enjoy, when we ALL could enjoy it smoke-free.

*remark not intended for those parents who are still under the impression that their child's s&^# doesn't stink. :)

Bull. Show me the research that ties smoking to revenue. Just as smokers claim that they will stay away because they are not allowed to smoke where they want to, there are non-smokers who stay away because of the smoke. Non-smokers greatly outnumber smokers. Your empty cabin resulting from your decision to stay away will be quickly filled by a non-smoker.

Again, you have the right to smoke. I have the right to clean air and my right to clean air trumps your right to blow smoke.

With the knowledge we have today of the health issues associated with smoking makes we wonder why anyone would smoke. Why no just jump in front of a bus, it would be a quicker and less painful death.

With the knowledge we have today of the health issues associated with carbon monoxide makes me wonder why anyone would drive. Why not just jump in front of a bus, instead of sucking in the exhaust fumes, it would be a quicker and less painful death.

Big difference. While one must adapt and function within the environment, one does not have to smoke.

When one is addicted to something, it is impossible for that individual to be objective and to apply reason and logic, thereby, recognizing the negative impact that the addiction has on themselves and others. Whether it is tobacco, drugs, alcohol, porn, gambling, etc., the story is the same.

When one is addicted, one will defend their addiction regardless of the facts. Addicts will do whatever is necessary to secure their fix. Individuals whose drug of choice is tobacco do not have to go to as extreme lengths to obtain a fix. However, if it was not so readily available, those using tobacco would take whatever action is necessary to secure their drug like any other addict.

Don’t believe it? Try giving up smoking for 1 day. Feel the impact of your body craving the drug. “But I enjoy smoking. I don’t want to give it up.” Sure you enjoy it. All addicts enjoy their addictive behavior. Is it that you do not want to give it up or that you cannot give it up?

We all have challenges and issues. One has the right to make excuses or do something about it. However, no more than a drug addict has the right to force the impact of his/her drug use on you than you have the right to impact others with the effects smoking.

Should Carnival establish a side of the ship where drug addicts can shoot-up? How about a lounge where drug addicts can partake of their pills? Maybe they should establish a special casino for those addicted to gambling. Personally, I would like to see a lounge where I can fully become involved in my sex addiction. In fact, now that the topless deck is gone, I am never going on another Carnival Cruise!

Ignoring the facts does not change them. Before I took action to take control of my sex addiction, I pretended that it did not have a negative impact on others. I was convinced that the only impact it had was on me. No one was getting hurt, I reasoned. I thought I had a right to partake of my addiction whenever and wherever I wanted to. As long as no money was involved, it was legal. After all, I enjoyed it and really had no plans to give it up. In reality, just because I pretended that is was ok and was not harmful, it did not change the facts.

One can go on pretending or one can respond to the facts.

Did the truth of her post hurt you? The truth always hurts.;)

I know what the truth is and that was a stupid and moronic post! and BTW, nooo the the post didn't "hurt" me. Geez some of you non-smokers are just so full of self-righteousness.

I smoked for 39 years and quit 15 years ago when I was told I had emphezma. I am so sorry I didn't quit sooner as there are so many things I can's enjoy now. Like carry or even holding my grandchildren for any length of time. My doctor now says it's asthma but I have copd just the same. I can no longer be around smoking or perfume as I have a tough time breathing. I never realized how bad it smelled or how bad I smelled as a smoker. I know I would have been the first one on the bandwagon for smoking and would have been resentful of any smoking laws or rules. However since this is not a issue for me anymore I just urge all people of all ages to quit before you can't enjoy life.

Have a healthy fun cruise. I'm on the dream August 6th,2011 can't wait.

To the person that was vaping on the boat did you notice others vaping and did you every have anyone question you about vaping. I would think there would be no problem vaping in non-smoking place but I'm not sure what the thought is on that. Anyone out there know if there is restrictions on vaping too.

Now if they could only find a way to get the smoke smell off the people when they step back inside then those of us with asthma and allergies will be able to breathe! It's not just the first hand smoke if you only knew how much you effect others even after you smoke. And what about all the children and their little pure virgin lungs!

You smell worse after you smoke then while you are smoking and it still is harmful.

You are totally serious aren't you? You want people who have gone outside to have a smoke to not come around you because of the way they smell?

Sorry, but this is starting to sound like a bad comedy routine. Smell is particulate, and therefore I suppose it is possible someone extremely sensitive could be affected by a smell. It is increasingly common for people to have allergic reactions to perfume or cologne.

However, to suggest that someone who follows the rules and smokes away from others can cause lung damage to another just by coming back smelling like a cigarrette is just goofy. The smell is offensive, but when we go out in public we all take a risk of being offended. If we have particularly critical health problems it is our own responsibility to deal with those and not expect the rest of the world to adjust.

I can have a severe allergic reaction to certain things that closes off my airways. However, it isn't causing lung damage to me, it is a weird quirk related to my body, proteins and histamine. I sure don't expect everyone that wears certain kinds of deodorant or uses deodorant tampons to stay away from me, but I can pinpoint them like a GPS unit because of my reaction to them. This is MY problem, not theirs.

I haven't heard anything significantly different from my last cruise on the Liberty in December. The Piano Bar was still allowing smoking but only at the tables far away from the piano. The bar was dead mostly, but that was because the piano player was not great about involving the crowd.

Every cruise I've been on only allowed smoking on one side of the Lido Deck. Can anyone tell me if that still includes the outside pool bar on the smoking side of Lido and the tables near the pool bar, or that has changed?

I wouldn't normally comment in a "debate" thread because they almost always include personal attacks. Normally i just read them and move on.

BUT, this one sucked me in!

There have been lots of comments made about the casino....mostly smokers who say their section is always full while the non-smoking section is empty. Trying to say that casinos attract more smokers than non? As a non-smoking gambler i would like to say that seeing empty non-smoking machines doesn't necessarily mean that non-smokers aren't playing. I will usually try to steer clear of someone smoking but i don't only play the machines in one section. I play the games i like....and it doesn't matter where they are. I will absolutely park my big butt at a machine in the smoking section if i hear a machine calling my name. If smoke bothers me, i will move on when i have had enough of it. If it's blowing in my face, i will definately fan it away and if that offends the smoker...too bad. Smoke blowing in my face offends me, so i guess we're even.

Judging who is spending more money in a casino by which seats are empty isn't really a true reflection of reality.

To directly answer your question using even bigger font, the new policy does not go far enough. I was still impacted by smoke. I could not listen and dance to a great group, Music Unlimited, because smoke in the lounge was so bad that one could not breath.

Well.... Yes, but you could have gone to the Piano Bar! ;)

You have a severe allergic reaction to women who are wearing deodorant tampons, and can pinpoint them like a GPS unit?!?

Now I have officially heard everything!

I am a non smoker who will enjpy an occasional good cigar on my balcony.. But if you go back a few years CCL tried a nonsmoking ship. It didn't last very long. The revenue was not there. would it work today?

maybe ,maybe not. My thought is it may work for a season or maybe even 2 but once the non smokers get tired of the same itenirary it will fade just like last time.
