Am i the only one grossed out by robes in buffet line?

Recommended Posts

Hearing this kinda information makes we wish I could cancel my trip. I thought people who cruised had respect for themselves and others. I'm sure they graze on the Buffet line too. I'm so not looking forward to this kinda trip. People seem to have NO SELF RESPECT as much anymore!!

I would say this sort of "dress code" issue is a very infrequent thing ... most people wear shorts and t-shirts or sundresses to the Lido buffet. I have personally never seen this on any of the cruises I have been on. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

You hear stories now and again, but like I said - unless I just pay so little attention to others dress that I don't notice - which is possible to some extent, but I would notice a guy in a bathrobe in the buffet or someone in their jammies outside of their room if they are over the age of 10 - this doesn't happen often. I have seen crew turn people away from the buffet for not having proper coverups on as well - so it seems not likely that too many people get away with robes in food areas.

Earlier this month while on the Miracle, I did see robes in the Lido buffet, mostly during breakfast. Perhaps Carnival should post a sign in interior dining areas, "no shoes, no shirt, no service;)." Do you think Carnival washes the robes after each cruise??? Yuck.;)

I was on the VH1 cruise last year and the last night was officially the "Robe Party" and almost everyone wore their robes all over the ship. :D

I know that is quite different than what been discussed previously though. I think I am with the live and let live crowd. A robe certainly covers more than bikinis & speedos do!

This entirely parochial attitude about robes is astonishing.

A lot of people use them for cover ups at the pools, big deal.

As someone else said, it is the norm at high priced resorts and spas.

If I can survive seeing a 6'5" transvestite wearing a stars and stripes bikini, I can survive someone wearing a robe, easy.

I fail to understand what your comment "I could stand to gain a few pounds not loose them" has to do with anything? Yes we can see how you were raised, making snide comments about people being overweight.

People can LOSE weight but if you are ugly on the inside, that is forever.

You know what I find "gross"? People that feel the need to make judgements about people just by looking at them. I have seen people walking around in robes. No I wouldn't do it and no it doesn't bother me. I would rather be next to them in the buffet then the guy all dressed nice touching things after picking his nose. Point being just because people are dressed doesn't mean they are clean and not contaminating everything they touch.

YES! And high five!

I don't understand. People are outraged that people are at the buffet in their swim wear because they're not covered. So they want them dressed.

But people also are unhappy when people come in robes, which covers a lot more than a tank top and shorts....

I don't get it?

Maybe I have a high tolerance but another person has never grossed me out to the point I can't eat, then again I can talk about exposed brains, rotting feet and vomiting fecal matter over dinner... So again, maybe I have a high tolerance.

I don't mind the robes. What bothers me is in the morning, seeing robes or sleep pajamas and wondering if they washed their hands before they left their room after sleeping. Some people look like they rolled out of bed and out the door. At least, take a shower and comb your hair.

People can wear what they want...makes no difference to me, BUT I do like to people watch and will get a chuckle out of those who make poor attire decisions. One of the most memorable things I saw on a cruise was a lady in a bathing suit with a fish net type cover up over it (was like black pantyhose made into a cover up) in the buffet. She was an older large woman. It was an interesting choice. There was also this guy in a leather vest with nothing under it. A recent shocker was at Disney over Christmas...an entire family (3 generations) dressed up as Peter Pan characters. Nothing like a 40 year old man dressed as Peter and a 68-ish year old grandma in a Tinkerbell costume .

What grosses me out is when folks are wet and in swim suits and getting food off the buffet...don't want any dripping on the food...ick!

Like a lot of people on this thread......i go on a cruise to have fun & relax.......not to stare at people that are not dressed to my standards.:)

Where are these rules of the road posted? Im not a rule breaker. I have common sense and I can also read. If Carnival says...no robes outside your cabin...I will happily comply. Where I come from (Washington, DC) people are not easily offended...but that's another story.

Do you really need every rule spelled out? I don't put my unwanted food on the table or floor. But maybe I can since it isn't written anyplace. I don't spit on the deck either- although apparently, since it is not written down, I can. I don't shout across the room at/to my waiter although I don't think Carnival forbids it.

I did not say that I was offended by anything other than the fact that people use the excuse "It's my vacation" to do anything they feel like doing. I personally don't think that being on vacation means that all curtesy goes out the window.

I would be embarrased to wear the robe to the buffet, but I would rather see someone there in a robe than I would without a shirt on. That way there is less chance of their hair and sweat falling onto the buffet! I say let them wear the robes and keep that stuff contained somewhat! I do think its ok to wear it from your cabin to the spa and back!

HAHA are you serious?! Chest hair shedding, thats a first. Come on people.

Hey I was just coming to post pretty much the same thing... kudos to you for stating this.. if your main concern while on vacation is to examine what others are wearing you are in the wrong place.. maybe try a fashion show or somthing:rolleyes:

that is just silly!!!! noooooooooo.... why in the world would that be my main concern? im simply wondering why. it doesnt make sense. think about it! a robe. a robe! all over the boat. arent those the things you put on naked after your shower? and then... do you not put on clothes? and i dont like fashion shows but thanks for your suggestion.

After dinner, while everyone else is in the casino, at the bars, or shows; my mom and I like to hit the hot tub...

We typically go back to the room, change into our suits and use the robes as a cover up to head up to the hot tub... So yes, we've committed the cardinal sin of wearing robes outside our cabin...

Quite frankly though, we don't know any of you people and when the cruise is over we wil never see you again... Therefore, your opinion of our attire choices at any time during the cruise really means nothing to us...

If you are shallow enough to judge us by our outward appearance then you are not the kind of person we want to know anyway...

What really cracks me up about this thread?

It's one thing to get a chuckle out of someone's attire in the moment, onboard... Or even to be momentarily "disgusted" at the sight at the time...

But to allow it to continue to rent space in your brain once you've gotten home... Enough so that you felt the need to start a thread about it... Really??

Seems a bit silly to allow what a complete stranger wore on some cruise you took in the past to continue to occupy your thoughts...

Thanks for the laugh though... Happily going back to the real world to enjoy my life not caring what a complete stranger from the other side of the country that I'll never see again thinks of my attire...LOL
