Leftover onboard Credit

Wow, I can't imagine a leftover. Our final statement usually comes with an attached adding machine tape and an offer for an accountant to come decipher it:cool::rolleyes::D.

If you do have a leftover, can I impose on you to have a conversation with my DW.:o

We've had leftover onboard credits, and unless those credits were made in cash - they do disappear. After that happened to us once, we've learned to check our balance towards the end of the cruise. Usually a nice trip to the Spa will clear out the account, but I've also done some shopping to take care of it.

We had left over OBC from our TA, Stock, etc... and the front office called me the morning we were getting off and said to come up to the office and they gave me cash for what was still left - great way to end a cruise.:D

Exactly what happened to me one cruise. I had just figured the extra was gone. It was surprising to hear my name being paged to the front desk and walking away with extra cash in mt pocket. :D

If the OBC was purchased by you, or gifted to you by your TA or friends/family, then any excess is returned to you in cash. If the OBC came "free" from HAL (e.g. from promo, CCL stock, or Future Cruise Deposit) then what you don't use you lose. Apparently from what iflyrc and Mary Ellen said, they use up the free type first.

Can you pay auto tips with your obc?
Yes. OBC offsets any onboard expenses.

Only once did we have left over shioboard credit.

In fact many of us had tons of shipboard credit at the end of the cruise.

It was a Hawaiian cruise and because of bad weather the majority of the tours were cancelled.

Many of us got letters that the left over monies would be applied to our credit cards. Some people got cash. It all depended on how much you were entitled to get back.

If I have BOTH types of OBC, how can I indicate that I want to use the "free" OBC from HAL first . . . then the "purchased" OBC last?

I think it's done that way automatically. However, if you want to sure that you don't lose any, here's what you can do: near the end of the cruise go to a casino penny slot machine and draw enough from your onboard account to your key-card bank so that there is no OBC left. Take a couple of spins to win or lose a few cents and then cash-out.
