Joecors Posted April 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2012 Just a few days ago I disembarked from the Constellation after a 14 days cruise in the Southern Caribbean. I was intrigued that while on the cruise, whenever the ship arrived in port a 12ft(??) sqare carpet, sofas and table complete with artifical(?) flowers were placed on the dockside. Could any one more used to practices on the Constellation please explain the reason for this?
Cruiser Susie Posted April 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2012 It's just Celebrity's way of saying "Welcome back to the ship!" and providing a seating area should anyone need it. Always looks so nice.
Project_gal Posted April 12, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2012 It is not just Constellation and not just in the Caribbean. The welcome drinks, hot/cold towels and comfortable waiting area is one of Celebrity's USPs. Sue
tunaman2011 Posted April 12, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2012 Greetings It's a little welcome back reception area for pax returning to the ship. They usually offer cold towels so one can refresh before reboarding. On our recent Equinox cruise, it was even set up on shore at the tender ports. tuggers Posted April 12, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2012 As everyone has said this is just one of many perks that sets X apart from the other lines. In 2003 when I took my first X cruise and was met by a frozen towel when I returned from port the thought going through my mind was 'boy, am I cruising X again'! I think the pierside setup is just to provide passengers with another one of those 'moments'! I have to ask: what does USP stand for, Sue?? Denny01 Posted April 12, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2012 Yes, a nice 'welcome back' setup, but in fact, pretty practical. I saw more than a few passengers with canes and walkers sitting on the sofa when there was a line to get back on. They sat there until their friends/family got to the gangway and then got up and joined them.....very nice touch. And at some ports, the return line can get long. Now, all they need is to set up a little bar out there, and boy, we'd have a party before embarking! Den

Rare Azulann Posted April 12, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2012 Having walked down the donkey trail from the top of Santorini in 90 degree heat, I LOVED being greeted with a cold towel, water and fruit punch.:D Sat on the lounge and waited till the tender was almost full before returning to the Equinox. What a perfect day!!

Could any one more used to practices on the Constellation please explain the reason for this? You didn't enjoy this??? It is one of the things which sets Celebrity apart from the competition and passengers on other ships berthed next door are frankly jealous that they don't get the same treatment. We also used it as a meeting place when we were meeting people from an RCI ship berthed next door. They were previous Celebrity cruisers and knew it would be available. I say thanks to Celebrity for providing this nice touch! The icy cold towels in the Caribbean are especially wonderful.
TeaBag Posted April 12, 2012 #12 Share Posted April 12, 2012 I think it is a particularly nice thing Celebrity does for the returning passengers. This is very noticeable when we are beside another ship that has nothing.
Karen@Steve Posted April 12, 2012 #13 Share Posted April 12, 2012 Absolutely loved it when we returned from a long day walking around a Cozumel and we even walked back to ship from town. We got in line to board, with a cold drink and a cold towel. By the time we were back to our cabin we were refreshed enough to drop the goods we bought on shore and go out and about to watch sail away and have a fruity alcoholic (heavy on the alcohol) drink. Felt incredibly pampered and it probably didn't cost ~X~ anything! It's just one of those nice touches like the sparkling wine when you board. I'm going to miss being escorted to my cabin though but they've long since stopped doing that.
rothjer Posted April 12, 2012 #14 Share Posted April 12, 2012 The cold towels are a deal breaker, theyre not just cold, theyre like frozen cold, it is just beyond refreshing. The seating area is a nice little rendezvous point, also , sometimes my DW likes to walk up and down the port looking at the other ships, and I would just like to sit and wait and use up many frozen towels !! Fixit2010 Posted April 12, 2012 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2012 I find it one of the small things that sets Celebrity above the rest. I like it and would be disappointed if they stopped doing it. Also the soft comfy sofa's, shaded gazebo, cold drinks and frozen towels help the security staff stay alert having to stay there all day, lets make them comfortable too. Dblreed Posted April 13, 2012 #16 Share Posted April 13, 2012 We were recently on a Caribbean cruise on the Millennium at a port where we tendered. There was a marked difference between the Celebrity tender area with cool towels, shaded sitting area, no line, and officers greeting us versus the "other" cruise line with a long line of hot and bothered cruisers. Score one for Celebrity!
wvufan Posted April 13, 2012 #17 Share Posted April 13, 2012 The cold towels feel so good on my bald head that if I still had hair I would shave it. Happy Sails to You OOOEEE Baby :D:D Bob and Phyl
fleckle Posted April 13, 2012 #18 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Also at a number of ports, there are booths where local vendors sell jewelry and souvenirs to returning passengers. So it provides a place where male passengers who hate to shop sometimes sit and wait in comfort for their wives or girlfriends to finish shopping. It is sort of like the seating areas where those dazed-looking men holding packages sit and wait for the women at shopping malls.

momofmeg Posted April 13, 2012 #21 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Hmmm, sounds like =X= is going after HAL's customer base.:D:rolleyes::D Well Celebrity is HAL's competition. I have been on both lines and their demographic is pretty much the same. (exception is the shorter Celebrity cruises that the Millie is doing right now) I personally prefer Celerity because of their stricter non smoking policy.
