FrannyK Posted April 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2012 Friends of ours are taking their first ever cruise on the Summit next month to Bermuda. They have some questions but I haven't sailed Celebrity yet, so just wanted to check these boards to ask: Bringing case(s) of water/soda on board at embarkation: Is there a limit? Can you just tape luggage tag on case or does case have to be wrapped somehow? Will the casino be open when ship is docked in Bermuda? Do shops on board generally have their sales the last day at sea (that's been our experience)? Since dry dock, are the bedding, cabin carpets and TV's new in ALL cabins? Any special tips to give them about the Summit? Thanks so much!

Can you just tape luggage tag on case or does case have to be wrapped somehow? Luggage tags from Celebrity are sticky so just slap one on the water/soda/gatorade then voila they will appear in your room Will the casino be open when ship is docked in Bermuda? No the Casino will be closed the entire time while in Bermuda. Do shops on board generally have their sales the last day at sea (that's been our experience)? They had some sales each day of the sailing the past two years. They did the shirts the 2nd to last day so if you are interested in those you better go quick. They only had S & XXXXL by the time we saw them. Since dry dock, are the bedding, cabin carpets and TV's new in ALL cabins? Yes all of the bedding, carpet & tvs are new. Any special tips to give them about the Summit? Thanks so much! Hope this helps. We love the Summit :)
FrannyK Posted April 26, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Thanks for your help :) A few more questions: Also, how much do the specialty restaurants charge? If you have a balcony cabin is there a light out there at night and is it controlled by you or the ship? Does Celebrity do prepaid gratuities? Can you bring any wine/liquor on board at embarkation?
sarahc78 Posted April 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Thanks for your help :) A few more questions: Also, how much do the specialty restaurants charge? I *think* it is $35 or $40 pp in the specialty restaurants. It is worth every penny in the Normandie. By far the best meal we have ever eaten on land or sea. I cant say for Qsine as we have not eaten there...although we plan to on our upcoming sailing :) If you have a balcony cabin is there a light out there at night and is it controlled by you or the ship? We had an Aft cabin last year and yes there was a light that was controlled by us. It is just a normal light switch. Does Celebrity do prepaid gratuities? Yes they do. Can you bring any wine/liquor on board at embarkation? You can bring on 2 bottle of wine/champagne per state room. When are you sailing the Summit? NorthCarolinaBelle Posted April 26, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Avoid cabin 6094, as there is a bright floodlight shining onto your balcony from dusk to dawn. It is blinding and quite annoying:rolleyes:
Rare printingchick Posted April 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2012 I also have a few questions. Does Celebrity do the "MyTime" dining feature, available on Royal Caribbean and does it function the same way? Any cabin tips for simply oceanview cabins? (For example, on Royal's Radiance Class ships, it makes sense to pay the minimal up-charge to be on deck 3, rather than deck 2, because those cabins have full-sized windows rather than portholes.) reedprincess Posted April 27, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2012 I also have a few questions. Does Celebrity do the "MyTime" dining feature, available on Royal Caribbean and does it function the same way? Yes, Celebrity has Select Dining, which is very much like "My time" dining. You do have to pre-pay your gratuities, same as RCCL, you can reserve a certain time every night either ahead of time or once on board or you can just walk in any time during dining hours. There hasn't been a seperate line for those with reservations vs. those without reservations - so even with a res., you may wait a few minutes for those in line ahead of you. Lots of 2-tops, lots of larger tables, etc. Enjoy!

All the deck 2 cabins on Celebrity's Millennium-class ships have full-sized windows. We like the category 8 cabins aft. Great views, especially during a storm, when the foaming sea washes over the windows!:);)

Great views, especially during a storm, when the foaming sea washes over the windows!:);) We are considering booking the Summit for a B2B Cruise March/April 2014. Looking for advice from any Cruisers that have stayed in the staterooms located on the Continental Deck (2). I can book an Ocean View Stateroom on the Continental Deck (2), Category 7, amidships, starboard for the same price as an Inside Stateroom on the Vista Deck (7), Category 9 amidships starboard. Our concerns are what is below the continental Deck and is there any noise issues? We are looking at Stateroom number 2086. Being further away from the public areas isn’t a concern for us. I know it sounds like a no brainer Ocean View vs. Inside for the same price. But for us location is just as important as price.
Wine-O Posted June 12, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2012 Check out the Oceanviews on Deck 3. They are new cabins converted from conference rooms. They have a huge window and are very, very nice. They are 3112 thru 3144. 3112 was larger than some of the others due to its configuration. I stayed in that room on Summit a couple of weeks earlier. I would make sure not to get an adjoining one, as some of them are.

Karen@Steve Posted June 12, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2012 Also, how much do the specialty restaurants charge? Qsine and Normandie are both $40. If you book one for the first night you get a $20 discount. I didn't see the discount at any other time during the cruise but we dined at Qsine the first night and Normandie the last. Normandie was outstanding. Qsine was fun but if I had to pick one it would be Normandie.

That First night specialty dining discount was actually 20%..which amounted to $8 per person...enough to cover the tip...for great service:rolleyes: We dined at QSine twice on that terrific cruise we shared with you guys.. ( our second specialty dining was covered by an ObC certificate which Celebrity corp kindly provided in response to my written complaint regarding the stupid way they handle a family staying in 2 different classes on deck 11 who want to dine together at least once for the celebration of a special occasion..) ...they still handle it stupidly..:eek:but I must admit that the OBC more than makes up for it..:D

They're new. You might look at 3144. It's the last cabin in that section, and maybe it is configured like 3112??? It it's available, I would go for it since it's out of the way of the rear entrance/exit in and out of that section. Just a thought.

The area is pretty soundproof from the rest of the ship. That's what I thought about 3112, hearing the flushing of the toilets from the ladies room all day/night. 3144 entrance is behind a bulkhead where 3140 is open to the doors leading out to the elevators. It was just a suggestion, but either one you will be happy with.
