Smoking policy

Hi,

We are considering an Alaskan cruise on Celebrity. My husband enjoys a cigar occasionally as does my son in law. Son in law also smokes cigarettes. I think I saw somewhere that Celebrity is a non-smoking cruise line. Is this true? Is there anywhere on the ship (Millineum) where they could smoke?

Thanks,

Priscilla

They can smoke in designated areas on one side of the ship and I think they have a cigar area which is deemed a lounge. You are not allowed to smoke in your cabins or balconies, the lounges or the casino. You can look it IP on their website.

Thanks, I tried to find it on the website, but didn't have much luck. I'll do some more searching. As long as there is somewhere on the ship, they'll be ok. Neither is a big smoker.

Hi, it is not a non-smoking line but it is very restrictive. No smoking

in cabins or on balconies. There are certain areas outside where

you are allowed to smoke...most of them are portside. I can't think

of all the venues but I know up on the resort deck (where the

buffet is located) outside, all the way aft, portside you can smoke.

Also near the pool, portside there are usually ash trays out.

And I believe on deck 5 outside, portside, smoking is allowed too.

So those 3 areas.....I don't believe there are any places inside

anymore that you can smoke.

I am sure if I missed any, others will chime in on other places they

can smoke.

Here is the Smoking Policy straight from the X site. There is NO indoor smoking,

For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the ship. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, lounge, hallway, elevator or corridor. This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes. Smoking is not permitted inside any guest stateroom, nor on any guest veranda. If a guest is in violation of this policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to their SeaPass account and the guest may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of the Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard. Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises cruisetour products. We appreciate your understanding and adherence.age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises Cruisetour products. Lois, you hit it right. PBJ, Celebrity has the most restrictive smoking policy. Basically, no indoor smoking at all, and not on any balcony. The only cigar area is aft, at the upper most sky bar. The only other places are two rather small outdoor areas, both port side. The penalty for smoking in a non smoking area is $250 and if the person continues to smoke, it's removal from the ship.

A number of passengers choose to cruise on Celebrity because of their very restrictive smoking policy. Passengers take the restrictive smoking policy very seriously, and any smoker who cruises on Celebrity needs to understand that other passengers likely will not tolerate smoking policy violations.

My Husband smokes cigars.

We have been on 10 Celebrity cruises, and probably five since the smoking policy went into effect. Cigars can be smoked anywhere smoking is allowed.

There were lots of cigar smokers on our April 2012 Infinity cruise and all smoked cigars or cigarettes in the smoking area with no problem.

Problem with the smoking area is the non smokers that sit down in the smoking sections and then complain. Non smokers have alot more 'room' to enjoy themselves than smokers.

It we dont' smoke in non smoking areas, please don't come to the smoking area's and fan, look at us like we have lost it, make faces, etc. We are obeying the rules as stated by Celebrity without complaining.

Only one of the outdoor smoking areas is designated for cigars and if your spouse is getting odd looks for his cigar in one of the areas that is cigarettes only, that might be the reason. Your statement that cigars can be smoked anywhere that smoking is allowed is false.

I absolutely will not do that! And, thank you so much for following the rules. The only face you'll see me make, walking through the outdoor smoking area is a look of interest -- when I occasionally catch a whiff of good pipe tobacco! :p

Thanks for all your replies. I booked this afternoon, and I'm sure all will be fine. The guys can easily do without their cigars, and son in law is so excited to go, he'll do whatever he needs to do to "be good."

Cigar smoking on the M-Class ships is only back aft at the Sunset Bar, Port side only. On the S-Class ship, the Sunset Bar, Starboard side only.

Cigar smoking in any other cigarette smoking areas on the ship should be reported.

I never said my HUSBAND was getting odd looks from anyone....I said people that come into the smoking area and give you odd looks, should go to their side. PERIOD.

I am sorry to tell you this, but Celebrity doesn't enforce half the rules, and yes, dozens of cigars smokers smoked in any smoking area, with no problem from any staff, higher ups, etc.

Do you think I would make this up?

Does your reference to 'false' mean 'not true'........I don't think we need to go there.

My husband along with many others smoked CIGARS in any smoking area. Ashtrays were emptied by bartenders, pool deck, 'suits' and 'higher ups'......no one ever said a word to anyone that I heard or saw. Yes, I have read the policy you refer too......however, Celebrity seems to have a problem enforcing alot of their rules: chair hogs, babies in pool with diapers, line breakers, should I go on...........etc.

Again, Please do not refer to my statement as false, meaning I am not telling the truth. I was of right mind when I was sitting at smoking tables with my husband and others and they were smoking cigars, anywhere on the smoking side of the pool deck and at the sunset bar.

You can complain and see if anyone tells the cigars smokers they can't smoke in a smoking area! Good luck!

I guess that's the prevailing attitude nowadays...as long as you don't get caught or reprimanded it's OK:(

Most people don't need someone enforcing the rules...it's just common courtesy to comply with them.

Strange logic when a person knowingly breaks the rules using the excuse that it is because the rules aren't being enforced. Whether they are enforced or not, you are still breaking the rules. Are you condoning this behavior? No wonder people were giving your husband odd looks - they probably knew darned well what the rules were and that they were looking at a rule breaker, and were not impressed.

Too bad your husband didn't take the high road and follow the rules instead of playing the "everybody else is doing it" card. Says quite a bit about his integrity, or lack of it. I have zero tolerance for rule breakers, no matter what excuse they conjure up to rationalize their behavior, so you will get no sympathy from me. If I had noticed this, I would have complained. If I can follow the rules, so can your husband.

Do you think I would make this up?

No Blong2200, your statement that your husband smoked his cigar in areas that arent allowed is not false, because you seem to be quite proud he did it, and are stating very clearly that he it did knowing it was not allowed.

Thanks for stating that so everyone fully understands there is only one place the Celebrity ships allow cigar and pipe smoking which has already been very clearly stated and the the only ones who smoke outside that area are breaking the smoking guidelines. There is a $250 fine for breaking the smoking rules, there is no fine for line breaking for chair hogs, for excellent reasons, and if not immediately stopped a good chance of being removed from the cruise in the next port.

And by the way, the OP shows a good deal of class by stating she wanted to understand the rules, and clearly stated her family is going to follow it, just as most all smokers do.

For Blong2200, interesting that you are concerned over getting 'the stare' you seem to be so concered about as you tout your husband's intentionally breaking the rules. Odd.

Denny -- I absolutely understand your point about rules being rules.

But, as someone who has never smoked, and generally hates smoke -- my question is this:

Once all of the smokers have to go outside -- and to designated areas, at that -- WHY are cigar and pipe smokers marginalized even further? Cigarette smoke makes me gag (anytime, anywhere) -- but I actually have smelled good quality pipe and cigar tobacco that's not too unpleasant -- as long as it's outside, of course! ;) I'd much rather walk through a designated smoking section and smell cigar smoke, than encounter it on my balcony late at night!

I'm not prevy to why Celebrity restricts cigars to one specific place, but I assume it is due the very strong smell of cigar smoke. The cigar location is on the stern of the ship Many places that allow cigarette smoking restrict cigars further.

Cigar smokers are aware of this and most follow the guidelines. In my past, I've enjoyed a few cigars and was well aware of the difference between it and cigarettes. Just one of those things.

I think we are being a bit harsh on Blong since it is quite evident from the posts that she thought the smoking areas were all for cigars. Obviously from the posts there were others under this impression and Celebrity did nothing to correct the situation. I do not think there was an intentional violation of the rules on the ship.
