DG2007 Posted August 7, 2012 #77 Share Posted August 7, 2012 As someone who hasn't cruised much I actually don't like the sound of this program. This program certainly doesn't inspire me to remain loyal to Carnival, in fact, it makes it more likely I will sail other lines since my loyalty will not hold as much meaning now. Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted August 7, 2012 #78 Share Posted August 7, 2012 I remember when I booked my first cruise on the Tropicale - suites had butler service. On NCL they still do - butler & concierge - but you pay A LOT more for it. Yes, NCL (and Celebrity) charge a premium for those benefits. Though NCL is also the line which recently gave me a FREE SUITE (7 night Breakaway to Bermuda) thanks to my play in their casino on a three day sailing earlier this year! Carnival can't touch that, and I don't care how long their pole is! ;) Tom
maggieworkman Posted August 7, 2012 #79 Share Posted August 7, 2012 I think they should have survey VIP's to see how they feel about the situation before they started this program. According to the article: "Faster to the Fun was developed based on extensive guest surveys which indicated a strong interest in a fee-based package providing priority access and benefits." I'm LOLing about that! "a strong interest in a fee-based package" Maggie

nieciez Posted August 7, 2012 #83 Share Posted August 7, 2012 But I wonder how "soon" they will let you board....do you have to wait until the ship completely clears of pax debarkating from the previous cruise?
golfadj Posted August 7, 2012 #84 Share Posted August 7, 2012 So let me see if I understand...Carnival makes it harder to become platinum and takes away perks because there's just too many of them. Now they're selling platinum perks? Brilliant Carnival, just Brilliant. Another way to screw over your loyal customers That sums it up nicely

tbjl24 Posted August 7, 2012 #86 Share Posted August 7, 2012 But I wonder how "soon" they will let you board....do you have to wait until the ship completely clears of pax debarkating from the previous cruise? Yes, customs and border control regulations have not changed a bit. Its priority boarding, the same that VIP and Platinum and above have been offered. The actual process/timing has not changed. Just more buying customers included.
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted August 7, 2012 #87 Share Posted August 7, 2012 But I wonder how "soon" they will let you board....do you have to wait until the ship completely clears of pax debarkating from the previous cruise? Don't think it will be any sooner than it is now. By "early" that just means "first" (or almost first). I don't think they are going to bend the rules to the point of having last weeks and next weeks guests on at the same time. There is NO WAY the cabin stewards will be able to have all those rooms (Platinum, Diamond, and Paid For) ready much before 11:30ish. Tom
sarahleebones Posted August 7, 2012 #88 Share Posted August 7, 2012 Then there are other alternatives, like paying for concierge services on other lines. Same idea, always a way to make more revenue for the company and those (like me) are willing to pay for other services. I don't begrudge you your perks, and they are still perks, as you aren't paying for them. It's no different than paying first class in planes and trains. TOTALLY AGREE! And space is limited. Wouldn't you all rather have these extras available for OTHERS to pay for to keep everyones cruise rates low? If they don't implement these things, rates are sure to go up. I for one, would easily pay extra....but I also think these services should be part of the Suite perks. Currently, the only perk to a suite (obviously other than the larger cabin) is VIP boarding. Would make sense to add this to entice people to upgrade to suites. It seems they are always trying to upsell people at the last moment to suites. Why not make it an added perk to encourage people to pay full pop for a suite?

I'm LOLing about that! "a strong interest in a fee-based package" Maggie I recall getting that survey and I answered Yes, I would be willing to pay a little extra for certain perks. Just curious. I'm going on my 3rd Carnival cruise next year, so I'm far from platinum or whatever. I think that the more cruises one has with Carnival, the more likely they are going to feel this is NOT a good idea. Those with fewer sailings, and thus really no perks, are MUCH more likely to buy in to this as a great opportunity. Carnival never asked me how I felt... I wonder if they only sent this survey to certain groups of people based on their cruise count... as they likely knew that those who had EARNED the perks would not, for the most part, feel positively about this!
