Who drinks That much, even sodas and juice added? Most of the West coast cruises are too short to make it worthwhile, even if everyone in the cabin can share.
I don't think it will ever be offered on the west coast 3 dayers. LOL! Carnival would lose money.
I would like to try this option actually. My one concern though would be the promptness of service.

Drink service in the dining room is really slow. That's why I purchase the wine packages. If they delivered by the glass and not the bottle, would I still get 2-3 glasses of wine with my dinner?

Also, in the casino I normally purchase double captain and cokes in a tall glass. Would this be allowed or will I be waiting for service for each and every single.

I can't wait to what others say about the package and the service they recieved with it. Until then I will to buy from Bon Voyage and purchase the wine packages to be assured I can get my drink when I want it, not when they get around to it.
Excellent point.
The classic cocktails are 8.75+ the 15% makes 10.06.

I'm not sure where you get 10.75 per drink from. If you check the bar menus you will see where they are listed as 8.75.

I drink these every time I cruise. I like to use the 5$ match play coupon on the craps table. (which you get if you take ur receipt to the cashier in the casino showing your purchase a classic cocktail)

then I guess that takes the classic drinks off the table... since it is over by all of six cents...
Actually, it was being discussed:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1689900&highlight=alcohol+package+program

Why they choose a port intensive ship to test it on is beyond me, unless Carnival wants it to fail. That way they can say they tried it and it didn't work.
We're thinking that they did it on this ship because they were losing money as they were in port every day so people were not there to buy the drinks. This way they would get the money up front even if people didnt buy drinks on the ship. Just a guess.

Do you think they will switch this over to the Valor next year?

We are on the Valor next March when it takes the Victory's place out of San Juan.

Hubby and I would make a killing on this plan. We were trying to decide between Carnival and Celebrity only because of Celebrity's drink package.

BTW---not all folks who love their drink act a fool.

I dont think it does take the off the table .. I thought the Tip was included in the price of the package Take a look

The per-cruise cost for the My Awesome Bar Program is $42.95 per person per day, plus a 15 percent gratuity. Purchasers can partake of a wide variety of wine, beer and spirits, as well as sodas, bottled water and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails throughout their cruise. (Specialty coffee is not part of the program.) However, all included beverages, including wines by the glass, beers and individual cocktails, must be less than $10 to qualify for inclusion. Program participants who want to purchase bottles of wine and Champagne, as well as more expensive wines by the glass and cocktails will receive a 25 percent discount.
Celebrity has a drinks plan too, and they say all adults in the room have to purchase, but DH is not a big drinker, so we only got it for me, and no one said a thing.
I was not aware that Celebrity said that all adults in the room have to purchase one. Their website says that they cannot be shared, but I didn't find anything specifying that all adults in a cabin must purchase one - like Carnival does.
For me, the best thing about it would be not to worry about what my bill would be at the end of the cruise. I could budget for the expensive ahead of time and not have to worry about bringing soda, buying drink coupons or bon voyage liquor. I guess the convenience of it might be worth $50. Maybe they picked San Juan because most people fly there and then they don't have to stop and pick items up on there way to port.
I agree 100%. In fact, I'm almost sure I'd lose money buying the package vs each drink individually. But, the advantage of no surprises and no stress over how much the S&S bill is getting up to is worth paying extra to me. I would consider it much like I do the tips, expensive, but just another thing to budget. I tried smuggling a few times and just ended up taking most of it back home again. Too much trouble. Same with drink coupons. I bought them and didn't use them all because I never had them on me and the restrictions were confusing to me and to the bartenders at times.

The more I think about it, the more I hope they roll this out fleetwide. They'd make money off of me and I'd get more of an all-inclusive feel. Win-win!
We dont drink nearly enough to afford that. Also, what is that??? Non alcoholic frozen drinks. That is all I drink is the alcoholic frozen drinks.
you can get 'virgin' versions of many of the drinks, such as dod, pina colada, stawberry daquiri, etc. without the alcohol.
From what was posted on the Carnival Fun page, it doesn't say the package price includes bottled water or specialty coffee. Outside of the up to $10 alcohol items, she mentions only soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails as being included. If bottled water and the good coffees were included, then I think it would be a great deal and I for one would partake.
I would go for a coffee package as well.
Maybe you should have cut and pasted the next sentence too:

"All wines by the glass, beer and individual cocktails priced $10 and lower are available within the program."

yes, but very few, only top shelf type stuff... iirc there's only like 5 'standard' options above the 10 mark until you start getting creative with double liquors, etc.

I will hope Carnival offers this on the Breeze by January! A mimosa with breakfast, a drink of the day by the pool, a pre dinner cosmo, glass of wine or 2 with dinner, then a drink at the casino or show can really add up & it is nice not to be surprised with a big charge on sign & sail account.
It is a strange itinerary to do this but perhaps they thought having people off the ship for longer periods meant they would not have to give them as many drinks.
That could backfire. If it makes money on that itinerary, it might have to be considerably higher priced on a less port intensive cruise.
I'm thinking along the same lines:

Bloody mary special: $5
3 bottles of water: $6
3 glasses of wine @ dinner: $18
2 double rum and cokes in casino: $28
Total: $57

That's what I average on a cruise day. I sometimes drink more water or an additional drink in the casino, not to mention it should probably cover charges for the cappacino on the ships that charge now in the MDR.

And to those that think that's excessive, I would agree it would be if I worked the following day. I would never drink that much at home. On vacation though I am not driving, I am not working. I am relaxing and having fun. I am also far from drunk.
Knock out the 2 double rum and cokes, since they are $14 each. That means you will pay $73, not the $45.

If you're on a port intensive cruise, it would be tough to "get your money's worth", but our 6 day cruise on the Breeze in January fits the bill perfectly. We have 3 days at sea and only visit Grand Turk and Montego Bay. Have done all of the touristy things in Jamaica visiting there on two previous cruise stops as well as 3 all inclusive vacations, so we could just stay on the ship and relax pool side with a few drinks of our choice during the day. A couple during the day, a couple more during happy hour before second seating dinner and a few in the comedy club and piano bar after dinner makes for a very happy vacationer who usually only imbibes somewhat heavily when going to an all inclusive. The non port intensive sailing makes it a value choice, IMHO, if it is available. Value is why I have cruised 16 times out of 20 cruises over the past 26 years on Carnival. This option on our cruise just adds to that value.

Ooh, then it's a steal getting this package. :D
Just wished they were testing it on my cruise in a couple of weeks and not on the Victory.;)
