We would do this in a heartbeat.

At the current price of 7 and 8 dollars a drink, 42.95 plus 15 percent is a deal. That is 6-7 drinks a day. We are not crazy drinkers but for us it is easy to have 1 or 2 by the pool in the afternoon, 1-2 in the cabin relaxing, napping and getting ready for dinner, 1 at dinner, and easily 2 more at comedy club and piano bar. It sounds like a lot but through the course of a whole day spread out, not really offensive.

We like to have some on vacation and neither myself or my DH would be screaming drunk with that amount of drinks.

I'd like to see how this plays out.
Hey Jetsfan remember me? I'm right there with you. 3 Cosmos and 3 Long Islands. That puts you close to the daily tab and we are not falling down drunk as some would think.
First, you are obviously not falkcor . . . only a poorly-disguised imposter. The real Mark would never use the Shift key that much. :p

But, to whomever you are: The reasoning makes great sense, and I personally think it's totally accurate.

One of the program guidelines offered in the earlier text seems really odd to me, but since it doesn't seem to bother anyone else, I'll just keep that one to myself. :)

And if the real Mark does check back on this thread . . . Have a great upcoming cruise / Bon Voyage!! Thinking back to that visual beverage 'line-up' (from the piano bar) you posted quite some time ago . . . the new program could come in handy. :D

HELLO there Don my friend, you know me all too well.. i laughed out loud when i saw your comment, and looked back up and thought to myself 'huh that is odd, i guess because it was early'.

and yeah that's my read... but who knows... i just hope however they look at their test data they deem it a success and roll this out.

thanks for the bon voyage wishes, i'm starting to look forward to it (and do the research with all of 2 weeks to go!)

yes indeed, that lineup itself would have payed for the package... and possibly about maxed the daily limit lol

i really do wish it'd be on triumph in 2 weeks, but look at this, i'm actually going on one of the ships in my own backyard. bon voyage on your next as well! :D

The price per person isn't too bad, I'd think mid 30s would be better. It's the all cabin mates must also purchase that makes it bad. I drink, my SO doesn't. I would hate to pay that for him and he not drink... Sounds poorly thought out (well, it is carnival, nevermind).

on the flip side well thought out from their perspective. i'd wager they expect that would increase profitability on the whole... in lots of cases one or the other will be the bigger drinker, which justifies the purchase, and one might not take full advantage. so then either some of the purchases are for water, coke, or the maximum purchases are not made - either way it yields higher profitability.

This package wouldn't work for me either. On my last 7 day cruise, I think I had 5 drinks total.

But I wonder why they make everyone in the cabin get the package? Is it for fear of sharing? If that's the case, why wouldn't they make everyone in a cabin get the soda package?

Has anyone called Carnival and asked about this program? I guess I haven't researched anywhere other than here.

Usually with new programs, reps either have no clue what you are talking about or they will just read you the press release.

I would imagine early next week cruise critic will contact Carnival and get more details about the program...how long the trial will last, will they add additional ships to the trial..etc

Thre are 4 of us in a cabin, all over 21, and this would be way too expensive for us ... with the gratuity added, it would come to almost an extra $200.00 per day and not all of us drink alcohol. It is a shame that they would make everyone in the cabin purchase the plan.

Celebrity has a drinks plan too, and they say all adults in the room have to purchase, but DH is not a big drinker, so we only got it for me, and no one said a thing.

My thinking as well. I purchased the drinks plan on Celebrity, which also included bottled water and it was well worth the money.

Anyone know if the Carnival plan includes bottled water?

The package would probably work for me & my DH if we were cruising by ourselves (that's about 4 or 5 drinks pp pd, which we can drink about that much, but space it out over the course of the day), but with *everyone* in the cabin having to purchase the program it wouldn't be cost beneficial to my mother, who is sharing our suite with us and doesn't drink at all. She'd go into a diabetic coma trying to get her money's worth of non-alcoholic pina coladas, lol.

My wife doesn't drink, so this one is pretty much a no go for us. I budget myself usually to one or two drinks a day plus the bottle from Bon Voyage, so I don't see the value.

It's interesting that the AI Day Passes in various ports generally charge $40 to 60 pp, don't automatically tack on tips, and throw in a meal as well.

Its about time... The package works for me and some of my friends. If you do lilke some and break it down over the day its a home run .. I have been on several open bar cruises and i will say there are not to many really drunk people everyone has that good feeling going all day.

I know how much i spend on a normal cruise for drinks I am in where do I sign up

I want to do this , I am sure we can probally get our money's worth , the problem I keep running into when I am thinking about is that this cruise they are testing it on ( which I will be on in under 50 days ) is such a port intensive cruise and we have plans in all the ports. So I dont know if there will be enough time to get my moneys worth

I still am thinking for this cruise and maybe only this cruise its still more cost effective to get 2 bottles of booze on the ship ( either by Bon Voayge or other means ;) ) bring on my mixers , and still have plenty left over for us . we would have to spend $580 + $100 ( bon Voyage) + $20 mixers to spend as much as this program will cost.

And dont get me wrong we are pretty big drinkers , but since we are in port all day I would hate to try to drink all of my moneys worth everynight.

Thats the other thing I dont want to have to feel I have to go get a drink to make back my MOney

my 2 cents

I keep hearing posters say they couldn't drink enough to get thir money's worth. They could never drink 15 drinks.

The point is, it takes much less than 15 drinks to get your money's worth, especially if they include water. You don't have to drink all 15 to get your money's worth. Have you priced the drinks lately?

It's just like the food. After you have been on a few cruises you have tried it all so you don't have to eat evrything that is offered. You eat what you want until your full, not overeat just because you can.

Bring a water bottle. Waters free on the ship, no need to spend 40 plus bucks a day to get it. Plus you get to save the planet.

We would so do this, even if you moderately drink on the ship, it's not hard for 2 people to hit $100 per day.

Two pitchers of beer is already $40, DH can drink this easy on Lido, plus buy a few other drinks throughout dinner or late night shows. We both spend at least $600 per cruise on alcohol and we are never sloppy drunk.

Those that want to drink while on vacation are going to do so anyway, no matter the cost.

The drinks they make on board are not as strong as they could be, only a few cover that category, like the martini's and ice teas, which cost more than $10.

Happy Sailing,

So if you were the only one in the cabin, and you paid for yourself would they tack a single suppliment on this as well since only 1 is in the cabin?

Also if everyone in the cabin needs to pay it - what if children were there? Paying $50/day or so for a kid is absurd. Same with if my husband were to go with me - he's diabetic and can't drink - to pay that much is nuts for him but i'd enjoy it.

CARNIVAL TESTING NEW ALL-INCLUSIVE BEVERAGE PROGRAM ON CARNIVAL VICTORY

Carnival Cruise Lines began testing a new all-inclusive beverage program aboard the Carnival Victory starting with the ship’s Aug. 5 departure.

Under the “My Awesome Bar Program,” guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer, and spirits, along with sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails, throughout the voyage at one convenient, flat rate. All wines by the glass, beer and individual cocktails priced $10 and lower are available within the program. Full bottles of wine and champagne, as well as wines by the glass, beers and individual cocktails priced above $10, are available at a 25 percent discount.

Guests can sign up for the “My Awesome Bar Program” at Carnival Victory’s atrium and casino bars, as well as a bar within the main pool area. Each guest aged 21 years and over in the same stateroom must purchase the beverage package. Guests must be 21 years or older to consume alcohol on Carnival ships.

The cost for program is $42.95 per person per day, plus a 15 percent gratuity.

So if you were the only one in the cabin, and you paid for yourself would they tack a single suppliment on this as well since only 1 is in the cabin?

Solo pax would just pay for themselves

As the above text shows kids under 21 are excluded.

I know with the Open Bar card if one of the pax in the cabin is pregnant or has medical issues, they just require them to purchase the soda package.

You are right , When I say moneys worth I am not talking about the 15 drinks a day , I am talking about the $100 a day , you figure thats about 12 drinks to make the $100 a day mark , While I agree that isnt that much I think it might be a little much on a port intensive cruise like the Victory out of San Juan. I think I can still get all the drinks I want when I want and save money over this program on THIS cruise , On any other 7 day cruise ( 3 ports and 3 sea days ) I would probally absolutely get this program

I don't think it's excessive. Especially while on a cruise, like you said.

I would drink a Bloody Mary or two.

I just drink the water from the tap.

Don't drink wine...mostly because I don't know enough about it to pick a nice one.

Might have a couple of drinks in the evening.

I just don't see it being cost effective for me.

I'll stick with Bon Voyage. I know their bottles are more expensive than on land, but what I don't drink I can take home.

But you could get bottled water on this plan. It'd be nice to stay out by the pool and have them bring your water to you!

The thing that appeals to me about it is that I would be much more willing to try various drinks that I am not sure I will like. I'm not going to drop $7 or $8 on a drink when I am not pretty darn sure I will like it. So to me, this sounds fun, but only on a shorter cruise. Much too pricey for a week long cruise for me.

Having been to many AI resorts, I don't think this drink pkg would have any major influence on drunks onboard.

Wish they had picked fewer drinks per day and a lower price. Like max 8 drinks for $25. ( basically half). I'd be thrilled to participate in this!

i like this idea!

So, does the $10 mean the price of the drink, including the tip? or can you order your 10 dollar drink and the tip is extra? so confusing..

Does anyone have a price list they would like to share? I like my Miami Vices... how much are they? And does the 10% tip push it over the 10.00 limit?

I like another posters idea of less drinks, less cash...
