Desdichado62 Posted January 9, 2014 #1301 Share Posted January 9, 2014 What would you recommend to do in Copenhagen for someone who has "done it all"??We are into art, culture, architecture.....:) Thanks in advance. Perhaps something that is listed on these lists? Perhaps; http://www.visitdenmark.com/en-us/copenhagen/attractions/copenhagens-hidden-gems Cisternerne in Søndermarken, right next to the impressive Frederiksberg Gardens, is an underground museum featuring modern glass art from Denmark and around the world. or: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/viator/10-ways-to-enjoy-copenhag_b_3196640.html West of the city center, Vesterbro is Copenhagen's boho zone, where an influx of creatives, students and immigrants has seen this former red light and meat-packing district transformed from tired to desired. While still a bit sleazy in patches and unadvisable for lone women travelers at night (the stretch of Istegade between Rewentlowsgade and Oehlenschlagersgade, for example, is nothing but sex traders and drug dealers), the remainder of Vesterbro comprises wonderful boutiques, design studios, eateries, and bars. But, of course, you need to know where to find them. or: http://designsondenmark.tumblr.com/post/51738636483/another-of-copenhagens-hidden-gems-the-medical http://designsondenmark.tumblr.com/post/52880034283/frederiksberg-courthouse-3xns-extension-to-a
Danish viking Posted January 9, 2014 Author #1302 Share Posted January 9, 2014 Just a quick info to anyone concidering booking Radisson Blu Scandinavia. Apparently a major reconstruction that will add 10 new floors and a new facade will begin in June and last atleast one year. Also the Tivoli hotel (wil affect next door Wake Up Hotel) and the Cab-Inn Metro will begin to expand this year if anyone wants to avoid hotels in a construction mess. On a positive node, the the Wake Up hotel in Borgergade should be ready as planned this summer. Also the 5 star Hotel D'Angleterre is after some starting trouble up and running after 2 years of construction. Not all rooms are finished but as I understand it doesn't show. @ I-cruiser I will get back to you later.

Danish viking Posted January 10, 2014 Author #1305 Share Posted January 10, 2014 Danish Viking We are booked in the Best western City hotel for June Any construction concerns there ? Thanks lyn No its only these hotels that I posted here. The Square is located just next to the metro construction site at town hall square. There is also romoursof an expansion of Fox hotel but nothing is announced yet. Crowne Plaza located in Copenhagen Towers 1 has the peace disturbed a little bit by the construction of tower 2 (designed by sir Norman Foster). But I only think that this one is noticeable when going outside as these towers are only connected from the base of the building.

rajkr74 Posted January 11, 2014 #1309 Share Posted January 11, 2014 Yes...I would like to see your itinerary when your wife returns. We are doing the Baltics cruise in May , then have three days in Copenhagen before a Norway cruise with 4 ports. We are renting a bedroom in someone's home for the three nights with access to the kitchen (which hopefully will safe us some money). My understanding is that this apartment is within walking distance of major sites. I have seen about the card, but not sure if we will get one or not. We have used VIATOR in Kyoto, Japan , Florence, and Rome and pleased with them. I realize they contract with local guides. We are not sure if the hop on hop off bus would be good...we definitely want to do a canal boat ride. :) Well, my wife is back and she directed me to the folder where she has the walking tour docs and other Copenhagen items that we are willing to share. But, we can't figure out how to load the documents onto Skydrive...so I think the best way to get these to you is to give you our e-mail address. You can send us an e-mail and then we can send the docs back to you attached to an e-mail. rreedfam(at)live(dot)com

Regguy Posted January 13, 2014 #1314 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Danish Viking -- the level of information you provide in this thread and the old one is so outstanding. Thank you very much. We are scheduled to stay in the Radisson Blu Royal this summer. It looks to me to be about one block from the construction. Do you think it will be affected?
Danish viking Posted January 13, 2014 Author #1315 Share Posted January 13, 2014 The Scala highrise and Radisson Blu Royal is located aprox 100 metres away from each other. Both Axeltorv Square, Axelborg and Hammerichgade is located between these buildings so would only be visually disturbing if you have a window facing northeast. If you get a room facing southeast you will be facing Tivoli :)
Danish viking Posted January 13, 2014 Author #1316 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) New York time has made a 52 places to visit in 2014 and Helsingør is in at 43. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/01/10/travel/2014-places-to-go.html?ref=travel&_r=0 43. Elsinore, Denmark A museum’s entrance makes for something new in the state of Denmark. Even angst-ridden Prince Hamlet, literature’s most famous Dane, might be cheered by the new Maritime Museum of Denmark, which recently opened in his hometown Elsinore. Designed by the architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group, the glassy structure is built into a U-shaped dry dock and filled with slanted floors and zigzag passageways that evoke ocean-rocked ships’ decks. Maritime relics — from torpedoes to Lego pirate ships — mix with electronic maps and films that explore the romance of the sea, shipboard existence and trade, both centuries ago and today. Interactive exhibits allow you to run your own trade company, navigate by the stars and ink a sailor’s tattoo. For additional watery wonders, head to Copenhagen’s new Blue Planet aquarium, billed as the largest in Northern Europe. — SETH SHERWOOD Edited January 13, 2014 by Danish viking

Rare PatriciaF Posted January 14, 2014 #1319 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I have searched this 33 page post for airport and taxi and didn't find the answer to my question. What is the cost from the airport to the pier that is used by Holland America in a taxi? And will the driver accept a credit card without chip/PIN? Thanks. Danish viking Posted January 15, 2014 Author #1320 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Aprox 350-400 DKK and yes credit cards are excepted. But it also depends on the route, if he uses the motorway it will be quicker but more expensive because its a 5 kilometre detour or something like that. The cheapest route is Amager Strandvej or Amaterbrogade

Kenato Posted January 16, 2014 #1322 Share Posted January 16, 2014 Hi Danish Viking, You helped me out with some information last year and I hope you can do again as we are coming back to your great city of Copenhagen this May. Looking at hotels near Nyhavn and wondering if you have any views or information on these three? Copenhagen Strand Phoenix Copenhagen Hotel Opera. I believe they are owned by the same group. Any information you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks

Seems like it could be needed in July-August. TIA
BillandChristy Posted January 17, 2014 #1324 Share Posted January 17, 2014 Hi Danish Viking - We are arriving on Royal Caribbean’s Legend on 2 and 10 May (several cruises). My understanding is that Legend will dock at C330. You previously said that there may be public transportation available near the ship starting around January 2014. If so, can you identify the location from the ship and if there are any days that it doesn’t run from there. Thank you, Bill

TIA Admiral does not have aircon, but its very unlikely that its needed for more than a few nights every year.
