Cruisin' Chick Posted January 30, 2013 #103 Share Posted January 30, 2013 That is so cool. I wished someone had saved the bridge cams for my last cruise. Maybe next time as I'll be platinum -- I'll do it myself in the Internet Cafe.

Kiwi Kruzer Posted January 31, 2013 #108 Share Posted January 31, 2013 How do you post photos that change from one to another?Tom:) click on Kiwi's photos. Takes you right to it!I want to know where to see ships in different ports! Where can you find that? As said above above , just click on the pic which will take you to "Make a Gif". You can load up to about 20 pics and it will make them into a gif. and give a link for posting to message boards or wherever you want. For the bridge cams I use "Krooz Cams ", and have done so for many years . It gives you all the cruise lines that broadcast their cams , and has a great selection of port cams as well. http://www.kroooz-cams.com/ I was really lucky this morning. While having my coffee i checked the cams and saw that the ship was pulling out and the pic was updating....so I saved each update and uploaded them to "Make a Gif". Pia1913 Posted January 31, 2013 Author #110 Share Posted January 31, 2013 Welcome to Barbados and as we’ve come to expect, the weather is warm and the sun is shining. The reason you didn’t hear from me again yesterday is twofold. 1. I had nothing to say and, 2. The internet signal was giving me “agida.” We decided to return to our cabin after dinner and watch a Richard Gere movie; The Double. Mike watched it. I got lost almost immediately. OK. So here we are in Barbados. Almost. We’re due to arrive about 10 AM and depart at 6PM. The British first settled here in 1627, but the country did not gain independence until 1966. The easternmost member of the Caribbean, Barbados floats by itself, about 100 miles east of St. Lucia. The capital city of Bridgetown is along the Caribbean Sea, while the east coast of the island faces the Atlantic Ocean. The main export of Barbados is sugar, but I understand there is also a major rum industry here which produces what is considered one of the world’s finest products. Also, Barbados boasts a celebrity - Rihanna. There’s a blurb in the Patter and I quote verbatim: “As a visitor to Barbados arriving by air or sea, please be aware that it is illegal for anyone, including children, to dress in camouflage clothing or carry items made with camouflage material.” Other than the fact that such attire is reserved for military use only, there must be an underlying story that goes along with this. Not enough minutes for me to research, so if someone knows, please share it. Other than sugar and rum, the majority of excursions will take you to the beach and/or to paricipate in various water sports. We’ve been here more than once and we have beach all year round. Not sure where we will dock, so no plans as yet, but there is mention of a free shuttle to the terminal building. Will advise. On board today again a very minimal agenda. The movie The Amazing Spider-Man will show in the theater and The Natural will be shown on MUTS. That basically is it for the daytime hours. Showtime tonight in the theater is comedian Al Katz. We’ve seen and enjoyed his shows many times and will do so again. There’s a movie in Vista; Sunshine State and no MUTS movie tonight. Instead, there’s an Ultimate Deck Party starting at 9. No mention of food, but I assume there will be something to eat around 11 PM. Internet spotty. Hope this posts. Later.

Raamo Posted January 31, 2013 #112 Share Posted January 31, 2013 There’s a blurb in the Patter and I quote verbatim: “As a visitor to Barbados arriving by air or sea, please be aware that it is illegal for anyone, including children, to dress in camouflage clothing or carry items made with camouflage material.” Other than the fact that such attire is reserved for military use only, there must be an underlying story that goes along with this. Not enough minutes for me to research, so if someone knows, please share it. The actual law appears to be one that makes it illegal for anyone to 'wear clothing similar to that of uniform of Barbados Defense Force'. That has turned into no camouflage clothing. It's possible there was an incident at one point, but more likely someone just tossed it on the books so no one would confuse real soldiers with anyone else. Julia’s Journey’s Posted January 31, 2013 #113 Share Posted January 31, 2013 I read that past prime Minister Tom Adams made the law to prevent criminals dressing in camo and stopping tourist who would think they were police or military and robbing them etc. Not sure if this is true or not and apparently it is illigal in some other caribbean islands too. bdjam Posted January 31, 2013 #119 Share Posted January 31, 2013 Right now there's a guy in our cabin with a humongous vacuum and suction hose. For some reason our balcony took on lots of water. Our own private pool. Not! So what's the situation with the infamous balcony mats (or lack thereof)?

Cruisin' Chick Posted January 31, 2013 #121 Share Posted January 31, 2013 here's the official word on camo there: http://www.barbados.org/barbados-safety-tips.htm#.UQsCnq4pb1U Still trying to find the actual why, even though some online sources seem to indicate it's a means to keep potential robbers from impersonating the military. Pia1913 Posted February 1, 2013 Author #122 Share Posted February 1, 2013 What a fiasco getting off the ship. Yes there was a free shuttle to the terminal, but only one bus. Deck four forward was a real nightmare, because nobody could get off the ship until there was a bus in which to load us. Then they let off a certain amount and everyone waited on board. We only waited 10 minutes and they squooshed the passengers in like sardines. Brilliance of the Seas is here too and they had two teeny weeny buses. At least ours was large. Someone told me later that they added two more buses. In any event, we recognized having been in this terminal previously; it has lots of shops. Our purchases were a Barbados polo for Mike and diet Pepsi for me. We had no interest in going into the town proper which I remember as having one jewelry store after another. For some reason our balcony is accumulating water. Today was the second time we had to have someone come in with a huge vac and suction it out. I don’t know where it’s coming from, but hope it won’t be a continuing event. The one on our right is completely dry and on the left also has some water. Unfortunately these balconies have no drains. Yep…..the first of the Grand class ships needs major overhauling. Or disbursement. The casino misses me, so since it’s no smoking night I intend to pop in there for a minute. Or two. Or………… As of now we are in the minus column, but not enough to even think about. Also, the Superbowl pool I mentioned yesterday has changed its advertising. Today’s Patter says win up to $500. What happened to the $1,000? The buy in is still $10. I imagine they must not be getting enough action. Just before we left for dinner, room service delivered a plate of chocolate covered strawberries. This was an apology for the “inconvenience” we have experienced with the uninvited balcony water. Nice gesture. Had a problem posting this earlier. Trying again. Decided against casino. Not going to try to look at your nightlights; opening takes too much time. Ours does the job and Mike is happy. Also, no balcony mats. See y'all tomorrow.

TM Posted February 1, 2013 #125 Share Posted February 1, 2013 Is the water coming from the balcony above? We were on the Star in October. Every morning the room steward in the cabin above us would pour water on the outside of the glass at the end of the balcony. And of course it had nowhere to go but on our balcony and the furniture. I watched our cabin steward do the same thing. One would think there has to be a better way to clean that glass.
