Personally, I don't think it's worth it to buy the package, but that is me. Don't get me wrong, I like to drink and can put away 8-10 beers, but do I want to do this EVERY DAY for a 7 day cruise? I'll get my drink on 2 or 3 days, but I don't want the cruise to just be a blur because I was drunk every day. ;)

I can not find this package on the NCL website, Is it there?? Or do you need to be part of a group in order to purchase?? I think it will probably work for my husband and I, I may only have a few beers one day and many more on the at sea days. I think it will balance out, I just want to know how to add it to my trip???

This is my second NCL cruise, but my 1st one in 7 years!

Thanks!

And this will also be spread out over many hours....lets see, a couple by pool in the afternoon, then a drink when we all meet for dinner, maybe one or two with dinner, now off to the piano bar for a few hours to laugh, sing and maybe have another beer or two. I don't think many people will be sitting and consuming all of the days drinks in a couple of hours.

Does anyone have a list of the regular per drink prices? Seems to me that without that information it is hard to calculate if there would be any real savings. I suspect that for most, they would actually be spending more if they went with this package.

Drinks from some menu's appeared to be between $5.50 to $9.95. Though the confusion lies in what actual mixed drinks/cocktails are included are are not included. Seems different ships had different answers, and NCL doesn't seem to be providing all that good of an answer either.

Seems to me they should just code their menu's with UBP next to an item and it can be included in the package if that code is next to the item. Would make it a lot easier and stop guess work on behalf of the staff. Right now it seems to be up to each individual's discretion if they think an item is included or not.

If I purchased drinks at $8 each I would have to purchase at least 6 to begin to break even.

Though with my husband going he might at best spend $10 per day, so the package just won't be good for us. Maybe with a more clear cut menu from NCL we will know what is and is not included - right now they are beyond vague.

Just booked 15 nights B2B on Epic - Drinks package to us is a priority so we called NCL UK to ask what was included and they told us Martinis and Cocktails as well as single measured drinks. It does seem odd that you cannot pre book this. We use Costas all inclusive package which is only 19.5 euro a day, and this is ordered at time of booking.

I do wish they would allow it to be pre ordered.

No matter - any drinks package is better than none at all :)

Thank you for this thread.

What I really keep trying to find out is exactly who needs to purchase.

I KNOW it must be everyone in the cabin but what if we have 4 cabins and one person's credit card (my mom is taking my family and my sister's family). Would that mean everyone on the credit card must purchase?

The reason I ask this is that if that is the case, I am moving a couple of kids in my mother's cabin (on paper) and she can give us OBC, totalling the amount of the drink package (which she has graciously said she will also pay for) and we will just all use our own credit card for each cabin. The package would work well for my sister/her dh and my dh and me. (We all have connecting cabins...one cabin connecting to another) so the move would be on paper since the kids could still sleep where they wanted at night and I know the older kids would use the soda package.

Does anyone know this information yet?

I'm sailing on the Breakaway in July and while I know it is not sailing, just curious about the other ships and the credit cards.

Can anyone please help me with my question? I'm off to Disney to watch my ds's HS baseball team play at Wide World of Sports and then when I get home, my planning switches to our Breakaway July 2013 trip. I would love to know the answer to my questions regarding the package. Thanks so much!

By the small print at the bottom of a flyer someone had posted before, it showed all passengers on the same credit card had to purchase the package. So I would make sure you use a different card a check in if people are in different cabins.

If his reservation is linked to yours he cannot pay for only 1. All persons in linked reservations must buy package. If there are minors on the reservation they have to purchase soda package.

Again I bring up that this package does benefit people who drink EVERY day, but if you only drink 3 or 4 days on a seven day cruise, I think it would be better to buy the drinks per drink on the days you are drinking. Plus if you do excursions, you might be paying separate for drinks in port. Unless you are a big time drinker, it's not worth it to me.

I agree with you. After reading this thread I think its best to just my drinks when I want to. NCL has got me by the tail. My sister & I wanted to bring at least (2) bottles of wine each but when we factor in the cork fee for each bottle that still will not be worth it.

I like beer and wine. My wife likes them also but not as much.

We usually share the alcohol when we eat out so on average I would say that for lunch we would get 3 beers and for dinner we would get 3 glasses of wine. Now on a normal day that's plenty. I've never cruised before :(but on a cruise ship the days are not normal. Everyday begins early and ends late with plenty of food almost 24/7. Whether I'm lounging outside or inside at one of the ships many venues I would probably enjoy a drink while doing so. Heck I'm on vacation, I might even want a Bloody Mary with breakfast everyday, after my coffee of course. During the afternoon between lunch and dinner I would enjoy a couple beers while lounging outside in the sun or inside at a trivia contest or something. After dinner I would probably enjoy a specialty alcohol coffee drink. And really late at night before heading off to my cabin for bed I might enjoy a late night snack of fish & chips or buffalo wings with a Sam Adams or Guiness.

All of that sounds like an amazing day and I would love to do that on vacation everyday. If my math is correct that's 11 drinks a day with my wife only drinking during lunch and dinner...doubt it but lets be conservative. At an average drink price of $5.50 that's about $60 a day for alcohol. I could get the cost down further by ordering buckets of beer and keeping them cold in my stateroom over a couple days while I drink them.

That being said...I will not drink that much because I'm not made of money. If I did drink that much I would not buy the UBP because my wife simply wouldn't hold up her end of that deal. I think the UBP sounds like it could be a good deal for a spring breaker or for somebody who wants to be a little "drunk" (not a little tipsy, not a little buzzed...a little "drunk") the entire cruise. In another life I'll sip Glenfidich scotch all day while playing games in the casino and listening to piano and jazz music in the lounges/pubs. In that life I'll have a throaty chain smoking wife who does the same. In that life I'll buy the UBP.

Thank you for your responses.

Does this sound like it would work:

I will move my ds and my nephew into my mother's cabin on paper since my mother will not purchase the UBP.

If my mother wants to purchase the package for my sister's cabin and my cabin, she can pre-purchase OBC for each of our cabins. My mother, sister and I will use separate credit cards at check in for each cabin.

So, I think the above would work until I read what knitlady wrote about linked ressies:

What does all persons in a linked reservation mean? Does this mean linked by credit cards or on our initial reservations? I guess I could have the TA unlink us. Is it correct it would not matter since it is freestyle dining and we can show up at a restaurant (MDR not specialty) and request to be seated together?

Thank you all very much for your help.

Oh, good grief, if you don't like it or want it, don't buy it. Believe me, it's fine. But some of us like having that poolside beverage (or two or three), that glass of wine at dinner (or two or three), and maybe another one or two as the night rolls on. It's really not that hard to "break even" (it's amazing that the people most critical are the ones most concerned with "breaking even") without being a total lush. "Starting fights"... (?!?!)

We both ordered it on our Oceania cruise last November and it was just incredible. Mind you, their plan is considerably more inclusive (as is the cruise itself), but there is a lovely freedom about not worrying about how much the bar tab will be at the end. DH drinks a great deal less than I, and it still proved to be a great value.

In my humble opinion, of course. :)

Who knew this would be so complicated. I have been drinking while reading this thread and at this point I can't tell if my buzz is from the chatter or the drinks.

You are taking a cruise to relax...don't start stressing about it now!

I'm confused but guessing I'm not the only one. When I purchase the UBP do I also have to purchase the soda package or are all my bevarges covered by the UBP. Not a huge soda drinker but a couple @ lunch & dinner is possible.

This is the part I am curious about also....

That list that someone posted from the beverage manager, stated no sodas.
