just how much is done when a ship is "Solsticized?"

I'm toying with a Connie cruise for this summer and have only previously sailed S class. I'm easily wowed by whatever is newest and shiniest, which we felt as some of the earliest passengers on the Eclipse. When the Connie finishes her second/current solsticization will she not only have more S class features, but also get a clean-up? New carpets throughout? Paint? Rust removed? Will she sparkle like she's brand new or will I be looking at little signs or wear-and-tear around every corner?

We were on the Millenium earlier this year...post solsticization. While they do change some of the furniture, rugs and decorations in the public/revenue producing areas, there were still a number of places that received no attention. The public bathrooms were one of those areas....the seat cover holders were actually falling off the wall in a couple of the bathrooms...and so on.

The ship should be much nicer, but it's not a complete clean up/refresh of all areas.

It will as above poster said, look refreshed, but it will never compete with the latest S Class ships. That being said, we just got off Century, now the oldest of Celebrity fleet. While it needs some TLC we still had an incredibly wonderful cruise. If you are looking for wear and tear you will always find it, if you are looking for a great cruise, you will find it and over look a little wear and tear

They add more cabins to the upper deck for added AQ1 class that charges more than the AQ2 class cabins that are converted CC cabins. Take 1/2 of the upper floor of the dining room and make it into Blu.

Do a few cosmetic chanfpges to the public areas.

We were on the Summit shortly after it was Solticized. We were In a AQ2 cabin. There was a new shower panel, and new balcony chairs.

The furniture around the pool areas were not replaced.

I don't think much really changes except for adding the aqua class and the cabins.

They also added restaurants and moved the Martini Bar, removed the

Champagne Bar and so there was quite a bit done (along with the

new cabins).

Hi,

From the press release:

*Celebrity's stylish AquaClass accommodations - a total of 107 staterooms (70 entirely new; 37 converted from ConciergeClass) - highlighted by exclusive access to the Mediterranean-themed "Blu" specialty restaurant and complimentary access to the soothing Persian Garden and Relaxation Room in the ship's revitalizing AquaSpa.

A total of 17 new oceanview and 12 inside staterooms

*Spacious verandas accompanying the ship's eight luxurious Celebrity Suites, complete with 24/7 butler service.

*The hip Celebrity iLounge - which made Celebrity the first Authorized Apple Reseller upon introduction on Celebrity Eclipse in 2010, and has since evolved to Celebrity's designation as an Apple Specialist - with Apple workstations, informative classes on the latest products and technologies, and a retail store.

*Full wi-fi capability throughout the ship.

*The trendy craft beer experience first introduced in Michael's Club across Celebrity's Solstice Class fleet now also will be offered in Celebrity Constellation's Michael's Club.

*New meetings and conference space accommodating up to 208 guests, courtesy of reconfiguring the prior area to one large room that can be divided into two spaces.

*All suites and staterooms will feature new mattresses made by Reverie. Custom-designed for Celebrity Cruises, the mattresses are hand-made in the U.S. with natural raw materials farmed in a sustainable manner, and are nearly entirely recyclable and/or biodegradable. The mattresses also feature removable covers that are hypo-allergenic, anti-bacterial and dust mite-resistant.

*All suites onboard will feature premium Reverie mattresses with all of the same attributes, in addition to the ability to allow guests to tailor their sleep experience to their personal preferences -from extra plush to firm - with the help of their butler.

*Rounding out the Solsticizing initiative throughout Celebrity Constellation will be new color schemes, new carpeting and new upholstery reflective of the Solstice Class, new sun loungers on the pool decks, and an upgraded basketball court.

As Lois said...quite a bit !!

...see the last sentence...new sun loungers around pool !

Enjoy

Keep in mind that this is the second "Solsticizing" drydock for the Constellation. She was the first to undergo "Solsticizing" in May of 2009. We sailed on her one month later and she looked like a new ship, after Tuscan Grille, the new ice topped Martini Bar, Crush vodka bar, Café al Bacio creperie, Gelateria, Bistro on Five, and the Enomatic wine bar were added.

When her three sisters followed her to be Solsticized, Celebrity not only added these same features, but made some additional changes that Constellation didn't receive, most notably the new cabins above the buffet restaurant area. During this next drydock she will receive those additional changes so she will be more like her sisters.

Thank god, they come not close to the new(er) Solstice Class of ships. They look great when they are Solsticeized- almost new. Good thing they did not change ALL- Millenium Class have a few perks which should stay- first of all the prommenade deck. They have their own charm and style. I much prefer Millenium Class over Solstice Class!

We'll be on Millie next week and the only other Celebrity ship we have sailed has been...yep....the Solstice. We are looking forward to Millie, we always look forward to a different ship and we know it won't have the 'wow' factor that the Solstice has. We will be in one of the newly added Aqua cabins on the 11th deck so we are looking forward to that. I think one disappointment will be the Persian Gardens....we looooved the Persian Gardens on the Solstice and would love to be in them with the view. However - we know that coming in and will stay make use of them though so I guess the disappointment really isn't a disappointment....it's just going to be different.

May of 2009? Not sure that is accurate. I do not believe any of this started on any of the M class ships until late 2011.

I think he meant 2010...First solsticizing of Connie was April-May 2010...here's the lead of the news release from back then:

You are both correct. That was a typo. We were on her in August 2010, not 2009. My bad! :(
