Princess Secrets they Don't Tell You - 2013 version

Recommended Posts

I have seen a lot of post on this thread in regards to purchasing 100 shares of Carnival Corp stock and receiving OBC each time you cruise. The amount given is determined by the length of the cruise. I already receive OBC for being a Veteran. If I were to purchase 100 shares of Carnival Corp stock would I be able to combine the two credits? Thanks

Mike

Absolutely! :D. Both have the same OBCs determined by the number of days sailing & I receive both on my cruises.

Not only can you combine the Veterans Credit with the Shareholder's Credit as Astro Flyer said, if you purchase and use Future Cruise Credits for your next cruise, you can combine that credit with the other two as well.

You can also add in anything you can get from your TA and Princess for booking and the Loyalty OBC when you become eligible. With Princess, you can get all these and not have to pick just one like some lines.

What does your screen name and license plate mean?

I've contacted my TA and he said Princess no longer give out the coupon book to the agents, so they don't hv any with them. :(

This is not the case, an Agent can do a cruise night sale, and offer the coupon books and reduced deposit on select sailings. (Any sailing the Agent chooses)

Even if not the new book isn't all that great so no loss. I once pleaded and begged Princess for one and they gave it to me and we didn't use any of it.

They are good for leveling tables and for an emergency coaster.

I think you will find that all "newly" published books come in the Hardback version first with the paperback version at a later date. Maybe you could go to your local library and read their copy before you cruise. Good Luck.

We sailed the Ruby; two of us read the book - in paperback - when we inquired as to when we might meet - we were told that they really don't do it anymore because no one ever showed up -- it was a 7 day cruise - but lo and behold it was in the patter - neither of us went!!!

There was a link - I think in this group - to the Princess information and all books being read on all sailings. That link said they would have books available. I thought I booked marked it - but cant find it now !! If anyone has it please repost -- it was recently that I do know...

Maybe you can get it from your library for the kindle, nook, etc -- if you want to keep it longer - then dont turn your wi-fi on -- they can only get it back when you turn it on. Also - if you can find others - both Amazon and B & N allow you to share a few times - split the cost.

We recently went to buy a B & N book -- instore $27.00 on line $17.00 and nook $7 ----guess which way we went ???

It's amazing how many bargain E-Books you can find. I have a Kindle and often when an author is coming out with a new book they will offer an older novel for a really bargain price. I love e-books and once downloaded a book while we were docked in Mazatlan and I have a friend who decided as he was sailing out the Gate toward Alaska to read some Jack London and downloaded it as they were leaving San Fran.

And any OBCs you travel agent gives and Princess Credit card points. I like the way princess lete you combine all those OBCs. I wish some of the other lines did the same.

I am a real cheapskate and only get the Kindle free books. We have a great library and that is where I get the current books free.

You can get free ones online too. I've gotten some really good books that way. They also have a great selection of 99 cent books.

I have the kindle app on my ipad so I can download the books. Try looking at pixelofink.com. They offer a free newsletter with lots of both free and low cost books. I have a bunch downloaded and can pick and choose.

Thanks AZippy and all the others who posted. I wasn't worried about the cost, any books I bring will be on my kindle so whether it was paperback or hardback, I was buying the kindle version. I'm just surprised to find out that Princess supplies everyone with a hard copy book.

Then I read where someone said they don't expect anyone to show up, so maybe they only bother with a couple of books per ship.

Having a Kindle has made my luggage lighter. No more bags of books. :D

How do you book the specialty restaurants on the Star Princess? Will be on her Oct 21st. Can you book online before the cruise on the Princess website?

This is my first Princess cruise so lots to learn..

Thanks so much!!

You can't book specialty restaurants in advance. Once on board you can call the dine line, DINE, on you cabin phone.

There will also be a "$1,000 Treasure Hunt" on embarkation day. You need to collect 8 stamps on a card for a drawing for prizes. One of the stamps is at Sabatini's. While you are there you can make reservations for both Sabatini's and the Crown Grill and the Ultimate Balcony Dinner if you wish. They might have copies of the dining room menus for your cruise. They should have the schedule for formal nights. The formal night schedule will also be on page 2 of your embarkation day Patter.

That was the first time I have seen mention of a Treasure Hunt on the first day. Can you tell us more about it please? It sounds a good way at least to help you find your way around a new ship.
That is basically the intent, but with an emphasis on revenue generating areas like the specialty restaurants, casino, spa, photo gallery, etc. The card requires 8 stamps and one stamp is there already. Getting the other stamps does take you all over the ship. There is a drawing from all of the completed cards turned in for various prizes and discounts. We stopped doing that after our 5th cruise in 2009 so I don't know what they are giving away these days.

1) You don't need a Kindle to read Kindle editions, as there is a FREE reader app for most (all?) of the phones and tablets

2) Documents can be sent (free) to the Kindle or the Kindle App by emailing them. Useful for deck plans, travel insurance policy - especially the list of phone numbers to call for different kinds of travel assistance.

I also added a document with all of the Port Agents on our itinerary - a little peace of mind and no extra paper to carry!
