conchyjoe Posted November 19, 2013 #26 Share Posted November 19, 2013 Maybe they sailed on April 1st - that would make one great April Fools Trick if you could convince the Sommelier to play along. Even better would be to video the tables surrounding a la "What Would You Do" on American TV.
ab21au Posted November 19, 2013 #27 Share Posted November 19, 2013 From my experience I find it v hard to believe that the second paragraph could occur either. A scam if you ask me.
2SailingNomads Posted November 20, 2013 #28 Share Posted November 20, 2013 I was on the Pride in October also disembarking in Monte Carlo and interacted many times w/ the sommelier. 1) She was always busy at dinner and I seriously doubt she had the time, or inclination to observe anyone "sipping" their wine, never mind have nothing else to do but watch one person on multiple occasions; 2) she was very professional and offered good choices when asked; 3) was very pleasant in all the interactions with various pax I saw her with. This is the epitome of why online posts with people hiding behind a fake name always need to be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism.

She was always a pleasure to talk to and always made appropriate recos. Edited November 20, 2013 by DUHCAR
Jay23 Posted November 22, 2013 #30 Share Posted November 22, 2013 All very odd in my view. Could you really walk on the ship, bypass all the checking in and get into a cabin without a key card?

lincslady Posted November 22, 2013 #32 Share Posted November 22, 2013 Yes, agreed. I think some people feel unhappy about being expected to wait to be shown to their suite, but I feel sure the main reason is for your stewardess to be informed that you are there, so that she can arrive shortly with the champagne and canapes, and the choice of special soaps, as well as showing you where things are if you are new. It is a nice touch, though we are usually wanting to unpack as quickly as possible, as there is never much time to read what you need to know on the day's programme, and perhaps have a quick look round, before boat drill. Jay23 Posted November 22, 2013 #33 Share Posted November 22, 2013 I have obviously forgotten that the doors are open on arrival. Nevertheless, we were certainly ushered to the lounge by crew when we boarded. I suppose the reviewer could have arrived at the port very late, and the crew was otherwise occupied. Still seems strange.

You are, but nobody stands over you once you are there to stop you going off around the ship. Some regulars go to the sky bar for a livener. Rude not to.;)

Mr Luxury Posted November 23, 2013 #36 Share Posted November 23, 2013 But how do you get on the ship without your key card in the first place, that thing which is issued to you shoreside? If the check in is shoreside then obviously you get the key card there but when on the small ships and at some smaller embarkation ports you do the paper work in a lounge on the ship once you have been escorted onto the ship and into the lounge area. Don't forget that the review that we read is highly suspect and not to be relied upon.
Emperor Norton Posted November 26, 2013 #37 Share Posted November 26, 2013 Not that I believe the review as written but - if its the sommelier I'm thinking of that was on for both my Pride cruises the author of the review must have left something (or a lot of somethings) out. I always tasted the offered wines before deciding on what I'd like. Not once was I talked to about being cut off. Pity there's no "ask author for clarification" option.
