Carnival Live

So excited, just bought our tickets for REO on the Ecstasy in April. I am a classic rock fan, so this is great. I think Carnival and their Marketing people have come up with an absolutely ingenious idea. As a Marketing person myself , I am impressed with this whole Carnival Live concept. My thoughts are they started this for several reasons . One, some of the most visited ports are the first to get Carnival Live. People often complain about going to the same ports all of the time but now they have something new and exciting at these ports. Two, the first ships to get this are the Fantasy Class. Again, I suspect these older and smaller ships have a lower occupancy rates than most of their other ships. Add a new and exciting program, and boom occupancy rates go up ! Third, they are getting a ton of free publicity . USA Today, ABC news, and many other news outlets have done stories on Carnival Live. Social Media is a buzz. Kudos to Carnival for coming up with different, new , and exciting for their customers. Well done !

We are booked for STYX in September and can't wait. We just saw them on land in December, but seeing them during a cruise in the showroom is going to be pretty cool!

So, you had to pay hundreds of dollars for a cruise and then pay more to see a concert. I can see some of these bands in my hometown for a lot less money than seeing them on a cruise ship. If the concert was included as part of the cruise fare then that's fine but to have to pay extra no thanks, I'll wait for REO or Styx to come to me.

For someone already planning on taking a vacation this gives them even more reason to cruise. And too pay $20-$40 extra to see a band like reo is a great value IMO

To each their own I guess. It doesn't give me any more reason to cruise and the entertainment should already be included in the cruise fare IMHO.

Average everyday entertainment is included. This type of entertainment is above and beyond that. People pay hundreds of dollars to snorkel for a few hours, this is nothing.

I would still rather see a good live concert in a venue designed for that purpose like the ampitheater where I live. I would rather pay $50-$80 for a ticket to a concert at home than to pay $500-$800 for a cruise and then more for a concert. Carnival is definitely planning on using this as the sole selling point for people to book a cruise. I go on cruise's to see the ports and their attractions and not just to see a band that plays on one night of the cruise in a port city. I get it that this works for some people but I'm not one of them. I hope it works out for Carnival and those folks that are looking forward to it.

Okay, we get it. You'd rather pay for a cruise and seperatly pay for a concert whenever it gets to you. Some of us would like it as part of the cruise, just like some pay big bucks to snorkel (or do you wait for snorkeling to come to you?) The concert is offered as an excursion for those who may never been to a concert with their favorite performers. Now, they get both in one trip.

I would think for those bands it would only be $20 but I am wondering.

REO was my first concert ever. High School, 1991, with first official girlfriend at a coliseum in San Juan. :)

 

I would not mind seeing them again on a cruise. I think it would be a pretty cool "add on" to our vacation.

 

I think that Carnival has really come up with a clever and innovative idea with these concerts. And I think that the complainers are missing the point. It's an optional enhancement to the vacation.

 

Yes, you can see these bands back home. You can also sit at a bar and drink back home. Does that mean that the bars on cruise ships are also a stupid idea?

I have to say you worded it perfect! Would be great if it was free but why all the complaining? If one doesn't want to pay then don't pay and don't go. From what I have seen it has not increased the price of the cruises that the shows are on.

Absolutely not true. In the past 2-3 years I been to 5-6 concerts in this classic rock genre ( Chicago, Styx, REO, etc.) and have never paid less than $ 30 per ticket ( plus parking ). That was for crappy , far away seats. Now for $ 60 TOTAL for THREE people , we will see REO in a much smaller venue. This is a great value.

$ 20 per ticket. Carnival website states the show is 1 hour and 15 minutes starting at 9:00 PM. No additional taxes , fees , etc. Three people - $ 60 total to see REO in small , intimate venue. I'll take it ! The third ticket is for our teen age daughter who has never heard of REO :-) She may or may not end up going. For $ 20 , it's worth it to buy a ticket in case she decides she wants to go that night. If not, no big deal.

I dragged my 17 year old son to see them, with Styx and Ted Nugent, 2 years ago and even he loved them (though, he liked Styx better). And we paid $30 each for lawn seats and $30 for parking. So, yeah, I think this is a pretty good deal, especially since you're cruising anyway.

Just my thoughts :) We are already booked for a B2B on the Breeze. When the announcement was made that Kansas will perform on our cruise we chuckled. My husband and I had both gone to their concerts (not together) in Chicago. What floored me was the reaction of 2 of the twentysomethings in our group. They love Kansas! So we will all attend! We spend a lot of family time on cruises and this will be a new and not terribly expensive way to have fun together. Btw they were also very excited to be in Cozumel late. I am pleased Carnival is looking to improve the entertainment/ music offerings as recent reviews have very often been negative regarding entertainment/shows. For a lot less money? What dreamland city do you come from? Good luck finding these groups for less.

Kind of in the line of thought I just had. There's no driving, no paying parking fees to be a mile away, no walking, the climate will always be tolerable etc.

Thanks , we will ! My daughter is 16 so we'll see what she thinks of it . Not exactly her type of music :rolleyes:

Funny you mention Ted Nugent. He is from Michigan, so growing up here I had a lot of chances to see him in at small venues early in his career. The smallest was a community hockey arena that sat about 800 people ! The only thing I still remember from that show was it was the loudest concert I ever went to !

I believe this is not a bad idea by carnival, their are a couple of drawbacks like no free show in the showroom that night, and the casino will not be open on the Mexico cruises, but extra time in the port and the concert for a cheap price is great..

However, to say that Carnival has not raised the price of these cruises is technically correct, but you are still paying more. The price of these cruises are set alot higher then these same cruises that people paid last year. Carnival is hoping that they can maintain these prices by offering the concerts, so they dont have to reduce prices like they did last year to fill the ships. Alot of people received big OBC for price reductions on these cruises last year, or waiting and booked them at reduced prices, and by adding these concerts, Carnival hopes to attract enough people, so they can keep the prices high as they are now
