Third Oasis Class: What would you change?

Recommended Posts

Mine to start:

Practical: Make the Solarium a bit more open air. I'm sure it's a challenge being at the front of the ship with wind considerations, but as beautiful as it is, it just seems a bit closed up to me.

I like the Solarium the way it is, but as far as my changes go.....

I wish there was a "terrace" outside the Windjammer towards the aft with

outside seating. The Grand Princess had a terrace deck near the buffet

and we always ate breakfast & lunch out there.

I agree I do like that on the ships that have it. However, you have to remember, unlike most RCI ships, the back of the Windjammer isn't at the aft. It's overlooking the sports court and the mini golf, with the Crown Lofts above. I don't know if that outdoor area would be nearly as appealing as when your looking aft.

Since I have only been on Oasis here is what I would change for the new build

1. Believe it or not I would like to take the layout of the Monarch's JR Suite and make that a regular Balcony Category. I like the little table next by the door.

2. I would make the Seafood Shack into a Sports Bar.

3. Would like to see Monarch size OV rooms and make them into Balcony Single Category rooms.

4. Need a bigger Comedy club with performances daily. No reservation needed unless a big time comic comes aboard.

Something that can/should be fixed - Airflow through Solarium. Very stifling in there. It feels stuffy even though it is "open".

Something that would be nice to be fixed but won't, more outward views. Nothing on Royal Promenade has a sea view at all, unlike other classes of ships with at least some oversized windows.

Something that won't change, the gym. I like other ships that provide panoramic views from the gym.

I agree with the comments regarding closets and nightstands with drawers as well.

I also think RCI should crib a page from NCL and Carnival and get some big waterslides. Kids go ape bananas when you dock next to a competitor; they look down at all the cool waterpark stuff. RCI is a bit lame in this area. Perhaps a corkscrew style slide from the sports deck down to the Aqua Theater would be possible?

Very much agree--the fitness center could be much improved, including by having the same type of locker areas as on Voyager/Freedom class ships with the nice saunas and steam rooms, instead of the for-a-fee thermal suite.

This would be great! I would love to enjoy breakfast in an outdoor seating area like this.

I also like the idea of having something similar to Cafe Promenade, Sorrento's or Park Cafe on the Boardwalk area. It would give people more reason to hang out in that area and make it less of a useless space. Even if they served similar food as the other venues, at least it would be something.

My other "want" would be to add more of the infinity hot tubs! Those were my favorite when they weren't crowded :D

The only bad thing about an eatery by the pool is by the afternoon it looks like a bad Golden Corral, dishes everywhere, napkins blowing around, spilled drinks flowing down the walkways. I think it would be better to have an enclosed grill with tables for people to eat at for a quick lunch like chicken fingers, wings, burgers and hotdogs.

I miss the Seaview café on the Radiance class ships, feathers and fingers after getting back from a port day, sitting outside and watching people trying to make it back to the ship on time, the good ole days!:D:rolleyes:

Definitely the comedy club needs to be bigger. I saw people being turned away most nights.

The Outside seating for the Windjammer would be nice. Although I enjoyed tea on my balcony every morning before I went up there for breakfast.

Outside views for the promenade would be cool. Not sure how possible that is but maybe instead of the big parade ground between the bars & restaurants, the bars & restaurants could be in the center facing out.

I also rarely saw people at the Seafood Shack, but I think that was more because it had a limited and somewhat unappealing menu. There were better seafood options at most other venues.

As for a Sports Bar, not sure I would use it, but they are popular. However it seems a better fit with the promenade than the boardwalk. Not sure what they could give up to make room, but there was a bar across from the Karaoke bar that never seemed that busy. I saw the art auction there once, and I stopped to pick up a drink on my way somewhere else. I wonder if the sports bar and the British pub draw away from each other? I would hate to see the pub go, that was where I hung out when indoors.

This will never happen but they could knock out a couple of those very lightly used shops on the Boardwalk to make room for another public venue. I can't even remember what exactly they were from my 2 weeks on Oasis. Not sure I'd put a sports bar there, but you could always move things around. I say it'll never happen because fat chance RCI removes shops to build another public lounge.

Keep the hot dog stand and loose Rita's or Seafood Shack, maybe do a Hibachi restaurant. I also like the idea of one of those frozen martini bars where you have to wear the coats and can only stay in them for like an hour max. I think it would also be cool to have some kind of elaborate play area for the kids of all ages (toddlers included) like ropes, slides, lots of climbing, etc...) maybe with the dreamworks theme incorporated.

How about a bigger seating area for the windjammer cafe just to mention one thing. Seems a simple enough fix. But it seems instead of adding more seating capacity for such a venue to help with the already "crowded" ship there are more concerns about adding guest capacity and keeping the venues the same...

I would move the Hot Dog place out of the Boardwalk (although it fits nicely with the Boardwalk theme) and put Sorrento's there (maybe cutting in a little to the shop next door). I would remove Rita's/Seafood Shack and add a Hibachi Grill/Teppanyaki place. Maybe include Izumi there. Then can add a different restaurant where Izumi is...or open it up for additional space for Windjammer.

Maybe rename the Boardwalk area to a different theme.

Where Sorrento's is on the promenade, I would add a sports bar. Or maybe put the sports bar on the boardwalk and keep Sorrento's as is....

I do think Park Cafe should be larger. I don't know how often the picture place is used in Central Park but it seems that space could be used to accommodate more room for Park Cafe. And then whatever the picture place is used for, move that into the FOCUS space?

I would also like to see a smoking lounge included on Oasis class since the only indoor venue is the Casino. With no other area to go smoke when you are in the clubs at night, I think something else centrally located is necessary. Maybe put it where the picture place is in central park for easy access from Dazzles?

I'm all for it being a bit bigger. But I really like the atmosphere of the venue. I enjoy the comedy shows on Allure and Oasis more because it's just a better vibe in the "club" than in the large theater. So make it bigger, but not too much bigger!;)

Or at least have more windows out from the venues along the promenade!

As for a Sports Bar.

I think one of the issues with a Sports Bar has to do with broadcasts and licensing. While it's fairly easy to open a Sports Bar on land and show a good variety of games, the international broadcasting restrictions wreak havoc on what they show on board (hence the hodgpodge of channels on your stateroom television). But this is certainly a contract issue that could be addressed.

I know it is all a matter of personal preference, but I cruise RCCL for their flow riders. When we dock next to one of the ships with a waterslide, it reminds me of how much more I appreciate the novelty of a flow rider than a waterslide. I used the waterslide a total of one time on my Carnival cruise, whereas I spend a couple hours each day on the flow rider. How anyone could go on the same little waterslide for a 5 second slide more than a dozen times is beyond me.

Yet children do. Over and over and over.... I think the poster who brought this up was referring to kids. I'm not sure how old you are, but since you're posting here, I'm guessing you're a little older than the target population he or she was referring to.

I think there is some merit to it. The kids pool area is okay, but it is very much geared towards younger kids. Perhaps livening it up with some slides etc... might not be a terrible idea.

Personally, anything that draws the kids there and keeps them out of the other pools only makes the entire pool deck a little more appealing to me!:D

I'll be on the Oasis for the 3rd time in one year. Seems crazy, and I really love it, and I have turned into a tour guide for friends and family. When I've suggested to friends to go on the ship, I go with them to "show them around"...

What I truly miss the most is the promenade deck ocean views...The design really loses it's touch because of the tenders blocking most of the ocean views. Many of the venues are "oceanless views" which is a shame.

Dining options with seating outside is at a minimal compared to other ship designs...completely miss that.

Do like very much all of the venues on the oasis class ships....

Did you really go on the flow rider for 2 hours every day? What about the other 4000 people on the ship? I haven't been on a ship with a flow rider but I imagine a lot of queuing and not that many turns. Is it not like that?
