it actually seems to be similar to Cruise critic message board except they do the topics and you talk about them...Some people get off on a roll....others in a huff....but it is innocuous, and you do get feedback from a Princess agent on what has been said....That said, I was #476 to join...(I think) and I did not get a bottle of wine comped....on the other hand, I do not yet have a cruise booked this year so far. Since I am a poor working slob, I can't get to cruise all of the time....Can't figure out why the boss won't just send my check to the bank and I cruise....It is the very least they can do for me....LOL......

Thanks, azbirdmom and laughing husky for your reply.

As best I can tell, this appears to be the website you are communicating with: http://princess.hoop.la/login/context/GENERAL/redirect/http%3A%2F%2Fprincess.hoop.la%2F

There is an offer on that page to "request to join this site" But my suggestion is to read the "privacy policy" first. Here is the "privacy policy" of that site: http://assets.socialstrata.com/docs/privacy_policy.php

BTW, that website is run by Social Strata, Inc, which appears to be contracted by Princess/ CCL for data mining purposes.

See http://www.hoop.la/

Just FYI, for whatever it's worth. Cheers, -S.

You're right, I got nothing in writing. I sent my email to customerrelations@princesscruises.com and not an address in the email from Private Princess Community. The person left the message for me from a Princess phone number (and provided her extension), knew the exact date and ship I was traveling on later this month, and also put a bottle of wine on our account (which I've confirmed). I'm very skeptical and never click links, especially when they are unsolicited. But I have no doubt this one is legitimate. It remains to be seen if it will be worthwhile participating in this forum though!

I see that this thread was moved off the main forum. I don't know why because I can't see where there was any violation of Cruise Critic rules in previous post, but it is against rules of Cruise Critic to question why, so I certainly wouldn't want to do that.

Edited to add: Thanks Mods, for putting this thread back on the main forum. Regards, -S.

Geeze.... some of you folks are just looking for a conspiracy or scam... Step away from the keyboard and enjoy life...

Why don't you talk about real conspiracies, like "did Oswald act alone?" or complain that Princess doesn't do enough for Ruby (Platinum, Elite) members like comp their drinks....

I didn't see where anyone was looking for a conspiracy, but rather just trying to figure out what the Private Princess Community was all about. It certainly seems unusual for a public company to have a private, invitation only website. (I must remember to ask about that at the next CCL stockholders meeting :D)

Anyway, I clicked on a link once without thinking and nasty things happened to my computer, so now I know enough to practice safe computing :). As I see it, there's no harm in asking questions, but it sure seems to make some people defensive.

 • 1 month later...

I did get an invitation from Princess and went ahead and filled out the usual information AND completed the survey. Received an email that it was accepted. When I attempt to login, I get the "your application is pending administrative approval." I give up; I guess I'll just wait to hear from them.

I'm having the time of my life. As I get older, the better it gets. :)

I don't go looking for a scam or conspiracy but I've worked in the online world for over 30 years. I know that there are scammers out there that are very hard to detect and they suck people in because they look and sound legit. I'm not talking about the scam where your cousin is stranded in Berlin without money and you need to wire some to them immediately. Although people really do fall for that one.

Many people are very trusting when they see an email from a familiar source. I advise being cautious and finding out more about any invitation before jumping in. No matter what, never give anyone your credit card or bank number no matter what.

No matter what? How do you pay your on-line bills. My husband uses credit cards to pay most all on-line bills and pays them with his bank account (on line) and he does so with a reasonable amount of confidence. He holds a highly regarded professional certification in IT security. I'm really just curious, Pam, as to how you can avoid this. I am not being critical of your method, just wondering how others do it.

You're misinterpreting my intention. I've done online banking for almost fifteen years so I have no problem banking or using my credit card online. What I was referring to was receiving an unsolicited email with a link to where you would input personal information. I tend to be cautious as I know that scammers are very good.

Oops! You beat me to it. Just what I was meaning as well.

For the Princess cruisers that have never experienced the Royal Caribbean part of Cruise Critic, RCCL tried this approach a few years ago, with a private invitation, to become part of a select group of loyal Royal Caribbean followers on Cruise Critic.

It backfired.........to the point that the VP that created it was fired. If I could find the email that told us that it was over, and was a mistake to begin with, I would post it here.

The posters that were part of the invited group, and as I recall there were about 250 posters, and then I was invited to join the second 250 posters, and we were all cheerleaders for Royal Caribbean, and then the dam burst.

We were called every name under the sun.

I hope that this is different. It sounds so much like what I was invited to join, and after 6 months it was abandoned, as a very bad business decision on the part of Royal Caribbean.

As an Elite member of Princess........but not a high cruiser, as I am with Royal Caribbean........I'll continue to follow this, and see which way that the wind blows. Good..........or bad!:)

We can start our OWN private community...
Rick, the community under discussion in this thread has nothing to do with Cruise Critic; it's a Princess-sponsored thing.
I understand. So was the Royal Caribbean community. It was sponsored by Royal Caribbean. It probably was not supposed to come to life in Cruise Critic, but it did, as this one has, due to the posters talking about it.
and it is legitimate.
it began as a forum to see what we thought of the usability of the website and has grown to include ideas we'd like to see implemented.
I'm not an invited member of the site, so would you please suggest a "LIKE" button on posts, as an idea we would like to see implemented? That way we don't have to initiate a post to 'like' a comment.

So sorry, Pam. I thought I was following the thread pretty well and did understand the direction you were going but sometimes I fail miserably at taking words all too literally. Sorry about that.

It's not for me. I work in IT and have been online since the BBS days so I'm not unfamiliar with online activities. However, I'm still normally skeptical. You can't believe how many computers I've fixed for friends and colleagues who have screwed things up by clicking on stuff they should have left alone. (WHY don't people understand that porn is the fastest way to trashing a computer...?)

Even though this seems legit it's still not for me. I used to be an online gamer and had thousands of posts on the gaming forums (mostly in the tech support areas) but I really don't do social networking and these days cc is about as "far out there" as I get. I don't even have a facebook account.

Now if there was a "curmedgeons.com" I might be tempted to officially not join!

Bottom line for me, is companies would not be doing this unless they thought it was going to help them make more money. We have been cruising for years. Sometimes when we are on board, I listen to the CD's messages, telling passengers how they can plan their day and get the most out of their cruise, it generally is a message that promotes passengers spending more money on board. I generally do the opposite. So this would not be something I would want to particpate either.

I'm not sure what you mean?
the site is for the princess website.

if you mean a 'like' button for cc, they did try it once for a bit. it seemed to slow everything down for me. perhaps someone whose memory is better than mine can speak to this!
