Okay, so here I am thinking I was ahead of the game...list made, shopping almost done and then it occur to me today most of the pants that I bought to take on my Caribbean cruise are jeans. I am not one for wearing shorts etc. So now I am wondering does anyone else wear jeans on a cruise to the Caribbean or am I going to look stupid? Some are light weight others normal. I know what someone else thinks should not matter but......also, do most people lock their luggage or leave it unlocked ?

It will give some people heart palpatations to see you in jeans esp in the dining rooms. If you care what those people think, you need to go shopping again.

Luggage unlocked but nothing in it I would be upset to loose.

Actually, if someone stole my dirty clothes, I would not mind at all, but I have never had one thing taken including the time I did not get my suitcase for two days because it was misplaced by the airline.

I wear jeans at night because it's cool in the MDR, casino, theater. But I wear shorts on the islands. You may want to consider so maxi dresses for the islands.

I'm not sure Jeffrey would look good in a maxi dress. ;-)

I'm sure Jeffrey will look just lovely in his maxi dress! ;)

We've seen that on board too, so he won't even be The First. ;)

Carnival is a lot 'cooler' than you're getting worked up about.

Just dress nicely for your evening meal in the Main Dining Room.

During they day, and ashore, we've seen just about any- and every-thing!

Even bath-robes in the Lido buffet line: not sure what THAT was all about, but...

Thank you for your responses but just so everyone knows......regardless of my sign on name ( Jeffrey 1950 ) I am a female. Jeffrey was my late mothers maiden name. As for Trigger... this is meant all in good fun but I am over fed, slow and half the time feel nearly dead. So I guess jeans would be okay !!

I'm taking a couple of shawls for that very reason..I don't know why they insist on having the AC set to "sub artic" but they always do.

Jeans are kind of warm for the Caribbean. I would take either some capris or slacks in a lighter cotton material instead of jeans. As others have said Maxi dresses are great, but you may need a cardigan if the AC. In the past I always needed a cardigan, but the past few cruises the ships have been too warm so I never used them.

I do not wear shorts, never have felt comfortable in them. In the summer, I like to take white wrinkle resistant pants with bright tops. The pants are loose fitting and cool enough for me. Often take two pair. Slacks and blouses for DR. Just be comfortable!

Part of the reasoning for cooler air-con temperatures on board ship

is that lower temps help in the fight to suppress viruses and bacteria

from thousands of people/cruisers living in a confined space!

Lowered temps -and the constant cleaning you often see in hallways and on the stairs.

Yes the A/C on board can be too cool

and my wife suffers with that -and the dryness. Nose bleeds.

I mostly had sun dresses with me. I took 2 pair of jean capries with me for 2 of the excursions that we went on, but other than that I love my sun dresses. It takes up little space in the suit case also. I did bring a sweater with me because I am cold nature, so I had it for the airplane and late evenings. But I think that I only had to pull it out one night on the cruise, the other nights I was fine.

Jeans are only denim pants! They are fine for casual dress.

You should always LOCK your luggage if they are out of your possession! (Not sure why that was thrown out there, but still....)

I was wondering if we were the only ones that lock our suitcase. I don't want someone else putting something in our suit case. Our suit cases are always lock if they are out of our site.

Wear whatever you are want to were and have a great cruise.

I agree on wearing what is comfortable - but in my opinion jeans are a bit hot and heavy for the caribbean? I would also suggest capris or a dress or two as well?

And I always lock my suitcases using plastic cable ties - easy to see if someone has been in there and easy to replace and carry around as required.

Suit case locks are next to useless. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they did more harm than good. "Oh look...they locked this. There must be something valuable inside..."

My feeling exactly.

I have a little clippy thing I use I bought in an airport years ago to keep the zipper closed. But if you have a nylon zipper on your luggage, you would never know someone has been in your luggage. There are several youtube videos that will back this up.

I tested my suitcase. With clippy in place. In and out of it in less than a min. And that was on my first try.

When traveling, I have used TSA locks for years now. If they open it, they put a notice inside. If they open it to dishonestly take something, there's nothing I can do. This makes it harder for someone else to get into my suitcase. Nothing too valuable in it - I carry my jewelry with me, not that it is especially worth stealing, either.

I obviously don't think as the quote above. I also lock my car.

Huge difference between flying / TSA checks and getting on a cruise.

Dresses for me are the way to go. I wear dresses to dinner, but there are a couple of nights where I will wear a pair of capris with a nice shirt and dressy pair of sandals. Beach days or days at sea I will wear my swim suit with either a swim suit cover or a beach dress (Check out ebay and victoria secret). And I also like to wear board shorts and a comfy tank top especially when it is windy on the deck. I hate pulling a Marilyn Monroe in a dress ;) If I do an excursion that includes walking or nothing really with a beach I will go with capris or board shorts and a comfy top. I am not a short person either. I hate jean shorts, but I love board shorts. If you have never tried board shorts or something similar check them out. I think they are pretty comfy and look nice. Just what ever you are comfortable wearing. I am a jean person, but I realized that on the cruise I enjoyed wearing dresses, capris, and board shorts. And I wished that I had more of those items than my jeans. This time I will only be bringing one pair with me. All of my dresses are not to long or not to short either just right at knee length and are very comfy.. I would recommend also looking to see if you have a store called Platos Closet near you. It is a second hand store, but they carry nothing but brand names at a great price. I got a good bit of my dresses there and never paid more than $12 for a nice beachy dress.
