Do fireworks at sea cause trash in ocean?

the concept of fireworks at sea sound nice, but does it contribute to the sea's trash ?

No more than it contributes to land trash. I am sure if it were a major problem they wouldn't do it (since they've stopped the practice of golf balls and skeet shooting and dumping untreated trash/sewage into the ocean).

Also commercial fireworks are very different from consumer ones packaging wise. On the ship they shoot the fireworks from a launcher that eliminates the need for most of problematic packaging that consumer products have.

Of course it does. Whatever the amount, however miniscule someone might choose to think, it contributes trash and traces of explosive chemicals.

It is also contributing noise pollution. I'm sure any dolphins and whales in the vicinity enjoy it as much as humans...

Think about that giant sea of trash in the Pacific made up of tiny bits of plastic. Human beings are funny.

Well, Back in the 80's nobody really CARED!!!!! But after a few cruise with the US NAVY times have changed....(33 years) Retired a few months ago.. Not only 12 miles from shore but in INTER waters.. The shells that the Navy shoots it MUST BE RECORD AND THE AMOUNT THAT GO IN TO THE WATER RECORDED..... So I know that even alittle is to much and my best guess would be less then 5%.. NCL has 1 of the best records for POL CONTROL......Not like other cruise lines!!!!! (Sometimes alittle to much):o

They should ban fireworks! After all the smoke is horrible....

Maybe not ban them outright, but only shoot fireworks from the port side so that the starboard passengers will... oh nevermind.

And the cruise lines stopping the practice of sail away parties with streamers and confetti.

I live along the shore in NJ, and here when beachfront towns have holiday fireworks, they fire them from a barge off the beach.

Hold all trash on station. (And just in case you didn't know modern cruise ships have sewage treatment plants and the only thing discharged to sea, even in international water, is gray water. Everything in the CHT is pumped off ashore.)

NCL does a great job of not dumping waste. We toured the facilties down below recently. Paper, glass, etc all goes to recycle plant. They do incinerate lots of stuff onboard. Water is treated, and retreated before going out. Food is super ground and only discharged according to certain rules and in intl waters.
