Cheers price adjustment

I just called Carnival, they have to worst customer service. I asked for the price for a 6 day cruise, they can only give a range of $180 to $300. Not sure what the mystery would be, so I'm sticking with the bottles I ordered through Bon Voyage.

No, you can't.

Unless they changed it recently I used Bar Cash twice, Once in June last year and then again in January this year. Do you know for sure that now you can't?

You may have been lucky. The rules of the Cheers program state that Bar Cash can't be used to purchase the program, but Cruise Cash can.

Via a quick google search and speaking to a Bon Voyage Rep. You can use Cruise Bar Cash for the purchase of Cheers. Carnival themselves said you could in one of the searches that popped up via the question being asked of Carnival Cruise Lines on a Social Site. Which was answered back in January. So, pretty sure there's no luck involved.

I've also previously seen what Laurie S did (mentioned earlier) that said NO to the Cruise Bar Cash being used.

I thought that was a bit odd, since it definitely seems like a bar purchase . . . but it did say No. Never tried, so I don't know any of the exceptions.

EDIT: Just researched and see that the CCL site clearly says this can be used for the onboard purchase of CHEERS! I'm glad it's that way.

Thanks for the info, j&t, I was specifically wondering if we had to purchase it on the first day. For the first time every, we won't be able to get to the ship right when boarding starts, so it's kind of a bummer. Oh well, I still think we might do it for our upcoming 3-night trip to Ensenada. It will save us some $$ too. I won't bring the two bottles of wine we carry on board, so that saves $20 in corkage. I'll skip the winery tour that we were going to do in Ensenada, as we have already done it once before. Since they raised the pirce for that excursion, it's going to save $100 for the two of us. Hubby always orders a bottle of sparkling water each night at dinner, so we'll save 25% on that. I can retire the rum runners, and not worry about being called to the naughty room, that calls for a drink right there!

Even at the highest daily rate, I don't think it's going to be hard to justify the cost: 1-2 mimosa's in the morning, a couple of 'boat drinks' by the pool, a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar, a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, maybe a spiked coffee for dessert, and a couple of drinks during the show or at the casino. The rest of the time will be spent in the gym working off all the extra calories!

You can get a corkscrew from your steward and open your bottles yourself. And even bring them to dinner with you, saving the cork fees.

I knew I wasn't lucky. I am never lucky LOL

Here it is straight from Carnival's FAQ page, just type Cruise Cash Bar in the Search field in the FAQ section, then look for this question "Can I use my Cruise Cash Bar credit on Bottomless Bubbles, wine packages or the CHEERS program?"

Inability to purchase drink packages in Tx waters is not due to tax or blue law reasons. Tx has outlawed certain types of drink sales that lead to over consumption: 2 for one happy hours, all you can drink for one price etc. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Comission, which has police powers, is responsible for enforcement. A waitress can be arrested for serving a regular-sized pitcher of beer to a solo drinker!

What is Cruise Cash Bar?

Cruise Cash Bar provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account which can be applied toward any bar purchases. This credit is good for any bar charge made to their account including alcoholic drinks, juice, soda, water, and coffee shop charges. Cruise Cash Bar is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash Bar is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

I think this could be a "win win" for everyone! Reading on here, lots more cruisers are now going to purchase the Cheers package and less are planning on smuggling! Hopefully it proves to be a good money maker and Carnival looks into offering a selection of drink packages.

We're now able to afford to get the Cheers package on both of our b2b's because of the decrease in price. I would however like to see a "per cabin" package (say 20 drinks) as I think that would suit our needs better!

What an awful program... you lock up your money for no other reason than you don't think you can save for it... only to gamble that for some reason you can't use it - and Carnival pockets the money. For all the great things about Carnival, this is their most cynical approach to their customers. :(

I think you are the one being cynical.

The Cruise Cash Bar is considered a Bon Voyage gift item that you wouldn't buy for yourself, but for someone else you may know that is sailing. It's like a gift certificate to a store.

Say a couple of close friends or business associates or a honeymoon or anniversary couple you knew were going away and you weren't going with them. You would order the Cruise Cash Bar for say $25 to be a nice surprise in their cabin with a note attached to the envelope saying something like "Have a great time. First round of drinks are on us!!! Love John and Jane".

If you are going on a cruise yourself, there are better ways of handling your own onboard bar expenses.
