Dash sale and price drop policy

Hello,

Thinking of jumping ship from Royal for a cruise next summer. Good price right now, but I am wondering what a dash sale normally offers?

Does Norwegian allow you to have price drops until final payment?

Thinking of booking now before a sale artificially inflates prices.

Interesting. How would a sale artificially raise prices?

Poor wording. With royal we typically prices go up just before a sale so that the "sale" pricing looks like a deal, but it really isn't.

Yes, NCL allows you to take advantage of price drops until final payment. That said, it usually involves rebooking your cabin and you could lose any prior OBC or other amenities. Still, if the price drop is significant, it will usually be worth it to rebook.

You might have already missed that boat. The prices for our cruise jumped significantly this past week.

The pricing I am looking at is really good compared to other lines. But I would watch it like a hawk!

If booked through NCL (UK) you would also lose the deposit paid.

As previously answered, NCL does allow price drops until the final payment. Supposedly you are supposed to lose your "perks" when you reprice your cruise. However, I went thru numerous price drops and was able to keep everything and even pick up the current ones offered. I booked through a TA so maybe that aided in keeping perks.

Typically, NCLs best prices are very early. If we see a cruise we think we like, especially if it is a limited sailing like the British Isles, we book it. You can always cancel before penalty phase. Of course, prices bounce according to demand, but I seldom see prices drop much below the very early rates.

Be sure to check out all available rates such as AARP, military. You can always go fishing to see the price trends, too

If you decide you like NCL, check out their future cruise credit certificates, many threads on that. They make it super easy to book quickly when you spot on find a deal.

Other random things to know about NCL, if you are a gambler, be sure to get a Casinos at Sea players card the first day you are onboard. If you have a fair amount of play, you can book cruises through CAS at a discount and with a free drink card.

Latitudes, the repeat cruiser program, is the best of all the mainline companies, IMHO. But some lesser know facts are, if you book more than nine months out you receive double points. Dittos for booking suites, which are the best at sea.

We have always enjoyed Royal, but NCL just fits us a little better. I hope you enjoy your cruise.

You can benefit from price drops after the final payment by upgrading. I booked an inside months ago and paid what was possibly the highest price for that category over the past six months. Final payment came and went and the prices began to drop. Emailed our PCC and for $40 got a mid-ship porthole. Today they dropped again and we now have a balcony for no extra money.

Yes, I was satisfied with the inside cabin for the amount I agreed to but I also watch the prices daily because who knows what will happen.

Thank you! Magnolia, that is very helpful information. We are club Royale casino members, so I'll look into that. I also like the double points. This sailing is just at 9 months, so I'll book right away. Emailing TA today :)

Yes. That makes sense and I think they all do that. But wouldn't that make booking now right before the sale the worst time to book?

If you call in for a price drop, be aware that you may be rebooked in a different cabin. Happened to me because during the few minutes between cancelling the one booking and rebooking under the new price, someone else snagged my first-booked cabin.

There may be a way that the PCC can get around this, you might want to ask first, if the cabin is important to you. I just forgot to ask my PCC and he did not mention it to me - I just found out when I received my revised invoice.

No I cancelled and rebooked yesterday, the price dropped $150.00 pp (total of $300 though I lost $100 obc) on a BD category room and even if they have a dash sale it is usually only a $50.00 OBC so even if the price goes up during the dash I still made out better. I will check the prices on Monday to see if it is worth having them add the upcoming OBC to the room. I am actually on hold right now with BOA world points I want to inquire on the passenger 3 & 4 promo to see if it is good for Bermuda. If it applies I will spend $800 in points but have 2 grand taken off my bill. If anyone wants to know if I was successful let me know and I will follow up later.

I priced a cruise yesterday and needed to sleep on it. Woke up, decided to book and discovered that the price went up $400 for the cabin!

Now I have a to see if my TA put a 24 hold on it . . .

As an FYI you can put a courtesy hold on any cabin right on NCL's website, you must enter the passenger information and and whether or not you want insurance and then when you get to the payment page just put a hold on it, it lasts a few days except when its very close to sailing then it is only a 3 hour hold.

...Does Norwegian allow you to have price drops until final payment?....

You may want to scroll down the page. This board is littered with the carcasses of message threads about this. Bottom line, in most cases, once you hit final payment, the contract is sealed, signed, delivered and done.

As it is with all other lines. I was asking about the period before final payment, which others have answered.

Does this only work if you book directly through NCL? Booking for Sept 20 inside GTY. so far now cheaper price drop...just a bit more ship credit here and there...wonder what will the DASH sale look like? So if I upgrade to oceanview if price end up just a little, I could do that?

No. If you've gone through a TA (Travel Agent) they will do the investigating for you but may charge you to make any changes to your reservation.

Good luck.

Slap me silly up the side of the head. I thought the post said AFTER final payment. Damn, I need to read better.

Please ignore the suggestions to book early if you want the best deal.

For most situations, that is horrible advice.

There are a few situations when booking early might get you the best deal:

1) You want a suite (particularly a suite type that is hard to get and/or popular)

-or-

2) You are booking an itinerary with a limited number of sailings (Alaska does not count for this, btw)

-or-

3) You are booking a popular sailing for Christmas or New Year's

In most typical situations, you will get the best deal after final payment date, usually about 14-50 days before the cruise date. If you're looking for the best value, that's when to book, and there are usually plenty of inside, oceanview, and balcony staterooms to choose from at that point.

If you are happy upgrading (such as buying an inside for an inflated price early, and then upgrading to a balcony for very little after the massive price drops), then booking early is fine.

Otherwise, it's usually a mistake if your main motivation is to save money.

Take this from a guy who has bought at the exact low point in both NCL cruises he's taken.
