Glad to hear. Thanks for the post Rick.

Enjoy your cruise and safe sailing!

Every Day at Sea is a Great Day

Thanks! Everything has been great despite being diverted. By the way, the ship has been rocking pretty hardcore the last day and a half; I can only assume it was due to the storm (of which we virtually saw none of due to the captain moving around it). I can't imagine how it would have been had we still sailed to Bermuda. Yikes!

In any case, a week at sea (even if it's Canaveral and Nassau) is better then a week at home.

A friend of mine on the ship said they got $48 in port fees for missing Bermuda.

We did indeed. No explanation for what it was but I suspect it's port fees for Bermuda.

FYI it was $48 per person not per cabin.

And, of course they aren't overnighting in Nassau, silly! That would mean a closed casino! ;)

Not necessarily. When we skipped GSC because of rough seas and went to Nassau at 6pm the night before we were supposed to and docked the casino was OPEN that night.

On Breakaway now. Though disappointed we're not in Bermuda, taking it in stride. Virtually all the passengers are understanding and realize safety is a higher priority than anything else. Otherwise, no complaints.

I'm watching on the webcam. I live about 1 hour away and wish I could see your lovely ship for real.

Tell your fellow passengers you really lucked out with the weather. Up till 2 days ago it has been ungodly hot, high humidity and terrible daily rain storms.

Anyone booking a cruise for Bermuda in August or September should know there is a very, very good chance of this happening! Not sure I understand all of the "can I cancel" comments.

I tend to disagree with you about a "very, very good chance". You are correct that the time frame you speak about is peak hurricane season. But if you look at my cruises, almost all of them have been during that time. I had port sequence changed on cruise and missed a private island on another.

I consider this a pretty good track record.

However, that said, I'm sure I'll get hit with a tsunami in 18 days when it's my turn.

Rick or anyone else on board- can you grab a shot of Summit port side deck 10 midship balconies- my in-laws are onboard and I know my wife would be happy!

The PC webcam is only catching starboard...

Thanks:D

The only thing midship on Summit's deck 10 are swimming pools.

Being diverted sux. 2 day trips (one to Florida...wow) instead of 3 days in Bermuda. They could have done much better than that (which is the issue) and so could have the 4000+ passengers. Disappointed in NCL lack of any attempt to make this experience anything better than ...well, we avoided the storm so be happy. Woohoo. Bug thumbs down for NCL and their lame response.

A friend is on Breakaway, there is a web cam of the cruise dock in Nassau, a Carnival ship has left, you can see Carnival Pride, Celebrity Summit and at the end of the pier NCL Breakaway. All diverted from 3 days in Bermuda . The Breakaway has 4,300 passengers aboard, most are Very Disappointed about the 2 ports, and no compensation from NCL. Yes, I know about the roll of the dice when you sail in Aug & Sept, but Celebrity gave on board credit, NCL nothing. It is usual that something is given to make a bad situation better.

I don't understand this. Why are you entitled to anything? I literally can't wrap my mind around why someone would expect to be compensated because they are disappointed. Life just doesn't work that way.

And since you have all the answers what should they have done.

I think the expression wrapping my head around means, I don't understand this situation ,so I'll try to express the disappointment most people on a ship experience. The safety issue is of course # 1, after that the passengers are paying Bermuda cruise prices and getting not even the usual Bahamas cruise- 1 port is missing. 5 days at sea on a crowded ship with many children in the mix, does not add up. If you compare pricing for the 7 day to the Bahamas it's less than what the passengers paid for this cruise around the Atlantic. When you buy something, you expect to get what you paid for. You can't return a cruise, the passengers were notified when at sea, can't get off, remember the Jones Act,Pt Canaveral is a US port.. So to try to make it better, that is compensation, a % off a future cruise,an On Board Credit, free rum punch for 1 hour, I have received all these from NCL on different cruises. It seems the management's attitude is not respectful of the passengers and their major inconvenience.

I STILL don't get it. They delivered what was promised...a cruise. Nothing more, nothing less. Sailing this time of year is hazardous, diversions can and do happen. On the other hand, if NCL had sailed on and passengers had a miserable time due to the weather, are they owed compensation then?

Soooo...if we would have missed GSC because of Bertha on my last cruise. I would have been very disappointed as we had splurged for a cabana. I would have expected nothing more than the refund of my excursion.

I agree. I have a great deal of sympathy for the people on this cruise--we will be boarding on Sunday and I can tell you I would have been VERY disappointed. I would not, however, felt or thought that NCL owed me anything! It's all part of cruising, period. I have been on many cruises and had some missed ports, changed itineraries, bad weather. It is what it is. To go around expecting to be given something is not what it is. Sorry, I just don't agree with that expectation.

One missed port day and a tonne of fuel, used cruising for an extra day. NCL is likely not making any money additional money on the diversion! Both the Cruiseline and the cruiser share in the risk of a diversion. I agree I would expect much of a refund if any!

I get what ma40 is saying. We actually did price out both the BA and the Gem for this summer's cruise. The Gem was a full $1000 less for our two cabins. Yes, part of the price difference is a newer, bigger ship with tons more activities, restaurants, etc. but also the itinerary of Bermuda is just more desirable than FL-Bahamas so we paid the premium rates and enjoyed our cruise last week very much. I would have been disappointed to have missed Bermuda and probably have felt like we overpaid but I wouldn't have expected NCL to refund any of our costs. I would have appreciated some OBC though just as a gesture.

I don't know if I'd say NCL will likely lose money on this sailing. The passengers are spending more time onboard and have more time to spend money in pay venues, like the restaurants and the casino.
