Breakaway Diverted!

I was told by a fellow passenger on the diverted Breakaway cruise that Celebrity offered a $175 refund on the Summit cruise that was diverted and a $250 credit for a future cruise. Hoping NCL would step up and do something similar, but all I got from my pcc was the fax number for customer relations. Anyone want to guess how that will go?

To all those that insist that cruiselines do not offer compensation..,

Yes. Hearsay is always proof. ;)

FWIW, I don't think people insisted that cruise lines don't offer compensation. Only that they are not obligated to do so.

Multiple passangers onboard The Summit have been reporting non-suite cabins received $100.00 refundable OBC and suite cabins received $200.00 per cabin. Plus a refund of port charges were given to all passangers.

Post #24 of this thread came directly from Celebrity. They monitor and respond on these boards all the time. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2092488&page=2

I only heard of one passenger that was irrational and upset over the change. She went bananas at the captain when he was doing a q&a in the atrium and was escorted away.

Everyone else I came across said the same thing, "NCL doesn't control the weather." Yes there was disappointment but the overwhelming attitude was gratitude for keeping is safe and insuring we stayed in the sunshine every day. The only bad weather we experienced was one night and one morning when we arrived in Nassau. That changed in about an hour to blue skies.

People were understanding and realistic.

That must have been the same person my mother saw getting off the elevator cursing and yelling "this is F****ng ridiculous, I'm F****ng flying home from florida, this is unbelievable" When she got off the elevator a bunch of people clapped and said "have a nice trip". lol Rick is right though, everyone i spoke to was grateful to have good weather and smooth sailing. Also, any show we went to and the captain was introduced he got a HUGE applause.

We were on the diverted breakaway and yes you can't control the weather but when you have flown from the uk and paid a lot of money for flights and the cruise we were given no choice but to call at cocoa beach which was utter chaos due to other ships being there the same time.We couldn't get a beach chair or umbrella so went back on the ship, then one day in the Bahamas.2 days at least would of been nice.so it was a hell of a lot of money for 1 day at the beach.yes we were safe but surely we could of had a choice before we set off? Why couldn't we of had 2 days in the Bahamas?

Why would I in the UK know the hurricane months for the USA? Do you know the high risk flooding months for Tewkesbury and Evesham? Why are some individuals so high and mighty on here. It really is an unattractive trait.

I guess you should have taken a few minutes and looked at what the weather can be like in Bermuda that time of year;) Its called planning ahead:D

And yes.....I know about the best and worst weather in England is. We went there 3 years ago, we also did a bit of research on when it was the best time to visit

What bothered me was all the research I did before this trip and when it was announced we weren't going to Bermuda and yes I understand it was for safety. We had no clue as to what was at the Bahamas or port Canaveral till last minute and by paying for internet on the boat.i take ages planning my trip and doing my own trips etc but we were blind without paying for the internet on board.yes we enjoyed our cruise and it is what it is.its put me off going again though.i would probably think differently if I hasn't paid for $3000 flights then the cruise cost on top. I think the debate could go on and on safety versus be happy with your cruise.its just the one day in the Bahamas that I was disappointed in

I agree with you about the planning part. I like planning ahead and felt like you almost had to do the ship excursions. It would have been nice if they offered a minimal internet package to make plans or see what there was to do on our own.

Well think of it like this. Why would NCL give you a discounted Internet rate, so you could look up things to do in the new ports and bypass NCL as the middleman? Then they don't make any money on you.

Atleast celebrity did something. Ncl not so much except probably made a lot more revenue as the casino and shops didn't have to close while docked in bermuda

Difference is that people will think:

A) This is no one's fault but NCL did try to help us make new plans.

B) This is no one's fault but NCL took advantage of the situation and maybe I will not book with them again.

Yes NCL made a little money now but lost good will that would have brought people back again. Short sighted.

You forgot one:

C) This is no one's fault and I since am responsible for my own research, the next time I decide to cruise during hurricane season, I will also research where I may end up if the scheduled ports are not available.

The casino is now open at night while the ship is docked in Bermuda. Bermuda changed their law effective with this cruise season.

Haha I have never been canada so might have been a better stop.anyway I learnt my lesson stick with European cruises as it's not as much to spend getting over to the usa.i learnt my lesson then to stick to Europe as it's closer.people could go on about the Bermuda cruise like myself haha so I will leave it at that seeing as though I haven't been on loads of cruises like a lot have on here I have only done 3 so far

Been there, had that happen with RCCL....and they did offer up a 25% off next cruise. refund on port fees difference but cannot remember if there was any OBC offered.....all due to a hurricane in July. Canadians had a sense of humors and posted signs all about welcoming us to "Bermuda North".
