Practical question for non-suite Getaway or Breakaway passengers who might get this package... If you are in a non-suite cabin, where are you supposed to eat your room service breakfast? Seems to me it might be a tad clumsy to have room service without much of a table to eat it on... I think for my own purposes I'd rather be at a real table eating comfortably. I think for Getaway and Breakaway... the room service breakfast is not much when compared to Cagneys for breakfast and lunch on the smaller ships. .

On your balcony of course!

In an effort to demonstrate the difference between the perks of booking a suite, versus purchasing the VPP offering, I have highlighted the VPP perks within my standard list of Suite Perks below. Hopefully this will help clear up some of the confusion regarding which perks are received by VPP guests for $99, versus perks received by those who have paid for suites.

Suite categories are designated by the letter “H” (Haven suites) or letter “S” (Non-Haven suites). Stateroom categories not beginning with the letters H or S do not receive perks.

Some ships have S categories only: Sky, Spirit, Sun, Dawn, Star, and Pride of America

Some ships have S & H categories: Jewel, Pearl, Gem and Jade

Some ships have H categories only: Epic, Breakaway, Getaway, Escape & Bliss

• Haven suites have access to the Haven regardless of where they are situated on the ship. The Haven has its own pool, hot tub, sauna, and sundeck. Some have their own restaurant and bar within the Haven complex. Some Havens also have a retractable roof over the central area. Haven configuration varies based on ship class/generation

• All suites have complimentary access to a private restaurant for breakfast and lunch. On “Haven Only” ships Haven Suites have a private restaurant for all three meals. 40 VPP guests will enjoy this perk on Non-Haven ships

• All suites have Butler and Concierge service.

The Concierge can assist with dining reservations, shore excursion booking and guidance in many other areas. He or she also provides delivery of invitations and information to the suite, and performs all escorts on and off the ship.

The Butler provides delivery of daily amenities, meals en suite, replenishes coffee and other supplies, and oversees the maintenance of the suite. Gratuity should be based upon services provided.

• All suites receive invitations to a special cocktail reception with the Captain and other Officers. 40 VPP Guests will enjoy this perk

• All suites receive priority embarkation {including express through check-in, as well as a private lounge with various amenities to enjoy while awaiting escort aboard} and disembarkation {which includes a private area to gather, and escort off the ship & directly to the VIP Luggage area and Porter Services}, as well as priority tendering. 40 VPP Guests will enjoy priority tendering and priority disembarkation

• All suites receive one bottle of Sparkling Wine, one large bottle of water, a bowl of fresh fruit (replenished upon consumption) and a fresh flower arrangement in their suite. (Note: Garden Villas, Deluxe Owner's Suites and Owner's Suites receive Champagne instead of Sparkling Wine) 40 VPP Guests will enjoy one bottle of Sparkling Wine

• Garden Villa's receive 6 bottles of alcohol with unlimited mixers, soda and water, while Deluxe Owner's Suites and Owner's Suites each receive 3 bottles of alcohol with unlimited mixers, soda and water. All other categories do not receive complimentary liquor.

• All suites are provided with a variety of Elemis brand toiletries.

• All suites are equipped with a Coffee/Cappuccino/Espresso Machine (Most are Lavazza pod-style machines), however the Sun has Lavazza machines in the Owner’s Suites, but drip-style coffee brewers in all other suites (because these suites cannot accommodate Lavazza devices).

• All suites have access to the Pre-Cruise Concierge service, which helps to coordinate your individual selections on pillow types, coffee and tea preferences, and a variety of special requests. Phone number for this service is 855-625-4283.

• All suites (except the SG and SJ suites on Deck 12 of the Star and some suites on the Sun) have a portable phone, which can be used throughout the ship.

• All suites are equipped with the "Bliss Bed" which truly lives up to its name, fitted with upgraded bedding. Also provided with upgraded bathrobes, as well as slippers.

• All suites have an expanded Room Service menu. Essentially, order whatever you want, and if it is available on the ship you will have it. 40 VPP Guests will enjoy this perk for Breakfast only, on Haven-only ships.

• Some suites have access to a reserved section of the theater on some ships, based upon stateroom category, as well as other factors, which can vary from sailing to sailing.

40 VPP Guests on Haven-only ships will enjoy one Dinner Theater show.

Disclaimer: Perks are subject to change at any time without notice. This list is intended to offer a general guide only, and should not be considered as “official” in any way, shape or form. This document is constructed from personal experience and the experience of others, and is a collaboration of input from many helpful members of Cruise Critic. Many thanks to all who have contributed to the development, and continual updating of the information contained herein.

I think it also bears mentioning that suites are considerably larger than either balcony or mini-suites, have dining tables, better sitting areas, larger balconies, much nicer bathrooms and are generally located in desirable areas of the ship. Hence, they cost a lot more than a mini-suite or balcony stateroom.

While I agree that breakfast and lunch in Cagneys ( or other specialty restaurant) is a wonderful perk, the addition of 40 people over the course of 3 hours is not likely to impact the experience on most sailings, imho. Time will tell whether this package causes issues, or is a resounding success, and you can bet your bottom dollar Norwegian is watching closely, and will react accordingly, one way or the other.

Newsflash! Room service for all meals has been offered to all cabins since forever. Simply adding different food items is not going to make it any more or less clumsy.

I don't think anyone is looking down anyone's nose. I mean, let's face it - this is not a luxury cruise line ... suites or not. I think some people like to think of themselves as taking a "luxury trip" because they are in a suite, but anyone who has stayed in an upscale resort knows the difference. Also, I really don't think NCL is going to differentiate between suite guests and the VIP package guests. It would have been advertised like that from the get-go. I think that was just a comment made to placate. I'm just taking a guess though ....

I find your logic and level headed-ness astonishingly on point.

I do admit though it is fun seeing people who are so passionate about either point of view. Makes for fun sailing passengers.

But for peace and solitude, four seasons resort at koh samui. <sigggh>

As a suite cruiser, I guess I don't see the big deal about the VIP Package. I'm sure NCL will keep control, so that suite passengers will still be able to use their amenities, otherwise they will lose their business. If it becomes a problem, I'm sure NCL will reduce the number of packages sold or eliminate the package all together.

As a Golden CAS guest, I ate breakfast in Cagney's three times (and enjoyed it very much), but never lunch (not a big lunch eater) on my last cruise. On my next cruise, if the breakfast/lunch amenity is removed (not a given right now), I will not purchase the $99 VIP package, because that would confirm to NCL that I am willing to pay EXTRA for the amenity package I was promised and already paid for with my slot play, which I am not.

I never got the priority embarkation, and I wasn't impressed with the priority disembarkation - took way too long to gather all the other guests. I finally asked to be walked off, which the concierge did.

In my opinion, if the breakfast/lunch amenity is removed, NCL/CAS has broken their contract with me. They assured me that if I played enough, I would earn certain amenities. I did my part. I don't think it's too much to ask NCL/CAS to now do their part.

If you feel that they have broken their contract with you, why not contact your attorney and let the legal system work it out.

I am thinking of another side of this coin. How will this impact the staff: concierge' date=' butlers, Cagney's wait staff? If there really were that many CAS people already taxing the system, then not so much. So, will those $99VIP passengers know that they must tip? It seems that the staff will be working harder and not be rewarded as much. Will those people know that they are not in the DSC pool? I wonder how the employees are feeling about these changes.

[/size']

Can you be more demeaning???? Will "those people" know how to tip?

Are you serious???? Do you think that non suite people don't tip? Can you be that ignorant? How is that view of the world that you look down your nose at???

You consider that a practical question? We had room service every single morning on the Getaway last week. We even used utensils and napkins!!!! Yep.....and we use deodorant every day too!!! We are so proud of ourselves!!!

For once I am speechless lol. I can't even wrap my mind around someone gambling away 80k much less loosing hundreds of thousands that sounds like a person has an addiction problem or heck of a lot more recreational spending money than I do lol. I had no idea people spend that kind of money in the casino but if that's the case then the CAS people should be even more upset than the suite ppl as they certainly have contributed a lot more to the coffers then I do.

i just didn't know someone would do it on a big boxed commercial cruise ship.

I think I'll skip this package on our next cruise which is on the Getaway.

Just my luck, we are in a suite on our 2015 cruise we have on the Star... so I won't be able to try it out then either :) We are sharing a 2 bedroom suite with another couple, so there is no price differential switching back to a balcony in this case...

wife and i did it on the balcony.

food i meant.

With my suite priority boarding I'm going to run to the customer service desk and buy up all 40 of the $99 VIP passes just to keep my own space and keep the riff raff out of cagneys

Lol

That reads so damn condescending and snobbish - some of you really need to just travel on luxury line away from the normal people. Or eat some humble pie and walk mile in someone else for a change. Just pathetic, crying over things that really does affect you at all, like its going to destroy your perfect vacation or something......

That would be silly, wouldn't it? Is that how you settle all of your disagreements? Now that sounds snooty to me.

Not how I settle disagreements, but I don't throw around terms like "broken contract". Not snooty at all, just feel if someone is going to use legal terms or accuse a company of wrong doing, they should contact an attorney to find out how it relates to their disagreement. Same would go for those that quickly yell "bait and switch" when they have no idea how the law reads.

Just for the record.....The two most vocal proponents on these boards for the removal of the the $12 service charge are both suite passengers. The number one poster even has it in their signature to remove them.

Rochelle

The person I know who mentions it in their signature doesn't advocate removing the Discretionary Service Charge. They simply let the uninformed know they can adjust the DSC, up or down.

Maybe we are thinking about a different poster?

Maybe you missed the irony

The lol at the end should have give it away but maybe not

On our last two cruises on the Dawn we stayed in a 2 BR, 2 Bath suite, the first time cause we were cruising with my dad (parkinsons and mild dementia) and we wanted the extra space....this past May we booked the same exact suite and the adjoining mini cause we were cruising with 5 young adults (17-20)....So we booked again for this coming October (2 cruises in one year )....Because its just 2 of us this time, I booked a mini gty (which turned out to be two cabins away from "our" suite, I just couldnt see putting out all that cash for a suite for the two of us....the closer we get to the cruise I was starting to 2nd guess myself because we were going to miss out on Cagneys breakfast and lunch...Then I saw this thread and  I am thrilled!! Hopefully it will still be offered on the Dawn in October!!
