Thanks I was just told that it was just being offered as a trial from reliable source but not offered anymore

Gnarly. I wonder if your source is as reliable as NCL themselves coming to this very thread just two short days ago and posting about the offer...

Dear Cruise Critic Members,

Here is some further information on our new VIP Priority Plus package that was recently launched fleetwide.

Thank you for your interest in the package.

I haven't read all 23 pages, so maybe this has already been brought up.

Is it possible that this is just a temporary NCL promo to show those in balconies and mini's (those most likely to upgrade) what they are missing by not booking a suite? Once you've had perks, they are hard to give up, so it might generate suite bookings once the promo is gone?!

The reason I think this is the $99 roll out price. Seems really low to me. Almost like $.99 milk loss leader promos at a grocery store.

Nothing on NCL is permanent. Things could change at any moment. Ask the pissed off CAS cruisers.

I have seen the balcony/mini suite comment before. Not sure why they would be the most likely? In fact, I could argue somebody in an inside would like to take some of their savings and "splurge" on nicer breakfast and lunch outside their cabin.

I think the argument is that people in balconies & mini-suites are just one or two price levels away from booking suites. If they get a taste of the perks of suite life, they might be more inclined to pony up the extra cash for a suite on their next booking. People who book inside cabins seems to be more budget conscious and/or more of a mind that a cabin is just a place to sleep while they enjoy the ship. Whether it is because of budget or cruise philosophy, they are less likely to make the jump up to suite life, so offering them the extras is less likely to change their future bookings.

And for the record, I DON'T think this is main motivation for NCL offering this program (although it might end up being a nice side benefit for them). Despite the hand-wringing from some on here, it seems like NCL realized they have an underutilized resource and they decided to monetize it. Will there be tweaks along the way? Sure. I think it will be interesting to watch how it all plays out.

I never really understood the fascination with eating in one's room. Well, unless it's late, after a night of drinking ... then it's a must :D

When I used to do a lot of SCUBA diving in all the ports, we would have room service send down a bunch of fruit and other light items to have for breakfast mainly because it was quicker and easier than the buffet and we were usually in a hurry to get going and head out to our private dive excursion. In that case ... room service was handy and convenient.

Flash forward a dozen years and now that SCUBA is not on the radar as much, I don't have any desire to eat in my cabin...

Sparkling Wine is not offered on Pride of America; instead guests will receive chocolate covered pineapple wedges.

Probably the most minor detail of the whole program but I'm curious. That's such an odd substitution. Anyone know why?

If I've read this thread correctly, it seems as if this promotion is advertised only in the balcony and mini suite cabins. But passengers don't have access to their cabins until early afternoon. So except for the few passengers who learn about this promotion here on cruisecritic, no one will know about it in time to make a mad dash to guest services immediately after boarding. So either all 40 passes will be taken by those "in the know" from cruisecritic and other guests will be disappointed, or their won't be much demand for these passes. Am I missing something?

I leave tomorrow. (Yippee!!) We aren't planning to make a mad dash to get to port early, so I don't think I'll board before say 1 - 1:30pm at the earliest. I do plan on stopping by guest services first thing and see if any passes are left. I'm also assuming/hoping not a lot of people know about it yet, and I'll be in luck. shhhh

With such a port intensive itinerary, I'm not sure it's fully worth the $99 (we only have 1 sea day for lunch, and we don't have any planned tours so we don't have a set time we need to be off of the ship) but with all of the hullabaloo, I kinda feel like I have to at least check it out!!!

I'll sure to post when i get back and give you all a full update! lol

Whether you agree with the decision or not, this demonstrates that NCL does pay attention to our opinions here on CC. Kudos to them!

I really think that given the right balance, they have a good idea at work here. They just need to make sure that they don't alienate suite guests at the same time.

Cagney is safe once again for suite guests to use in the morning and afternoon without any of the riff raff of balcony and minisuite guests!! Hallelujah, its a beautiful day indeed! (Being sarcastic of course, [emoji57] )

What??!!! Whiners on Cruise Critic get a policy changed in a couple of days by spouting vitriolic what-if's and maybe's with absolutely no observable facts ? Let's see, have there been any other policy changes recently that generated heated posts on Cruise Critic? Why so quick to react to this one without at least getting some data on how it works in practice?

For the record, please add me to the list of people who think this short-lived proposal was a very good idea, but sadly didn't realize that we had to be as vociferous in support as the whiners were in opposition.

I have to assume that some thought went into the development of the policy, including a review of underutilization of Cagney's. While I only have a snapshot view and not the multi-year, multi-ship data set that NCL would have, I never saw Cagney's crowded for breakfast or lunch, and in fact often saw it half full or less. Why not get a little extra income for this underutilized resource and at the same time do something nice for people who 1) could be persuaded to book Suites in the future or 2) missed the opportunity to book a suite on a particular cruise because they were sold out?

We were disappointed because on our current booking we were too late to grab a suite and had to settle for a mini. We got our hopes raised that we might at least be able to enjoy the calm of Cagney's B&L. Now disappointed twice.

After going through the trouble of putting this together, why not observe how it works for a period of time before pulling it? What a shame.

Kudos to NCL for this. I think that besides upsetting suite cruisers, there were too many unknown about how the addition of 40 VIP customers was going to affect the overall VIP experience of those who paid a premium to be VIP.

NCL - The idea is great from a business point of view and also to expose other cruisers to the VIP experience. However, it has to be done in a way that does not diminish the VIP experience for others. We pay more to enjoy the suite life because we love the perks.
